Delayed Affection is Cheaper than Grass; Why Cry When I Depart? Chapter 4.2

“Who bought him one? I didn’t know he lost his phone!” Xu Deming said.

Xie Bingyan was furious. Without hesitation, she ended the call with him and dialed her eldest daughter, Xu Wanting.

Eldest daughter Xu Wanting was one of her prides, currently working in the family company, mainly in charge of cosmetics sales. She was the CEO of the Xu family company and usually very busy, rarely returning home.

Upon receiving the call, Xu Wanting was surprised. “Xu Mo’s phone? When did he lose it? Why wasn’t I informed?”

“At the end of last year!” Xie Bingyan gritted her teeth.

“I didn’t buy him one! I didn’t even know he lost his phone! And now you can’t reach him?” Xu Wanting was puzzled.

“He lost his phone, maybe got a new SIM card, and his WeChat is gone too, probably changed it!” Xie Bingyan said angrily. “And he hasn’t come home for five days!”

“What? Xu Mo hasn’t been home for five days? What’s going on?” Xu Wanting was astonished.

Xie Bingyan’s anger flared up. She explained what happened five days ago and said furiously, “If he comes back this time, I must discipline him properly! He’s got some nerve to do this! If I don’t discipline him now, he’ll run wild in the future!”

Xu Wanting was stunned.

She had been busy with work these days and had no idea such a thing was happening at home. Now, hearing about it, she was immediately shocked.

Her relationship with Xu Mo was alright. He had come to the company several times before to bring her porridge, but Xu Wanting didn’t want to see him and had the security guards send him away.

These days she had been busy with the company’s projects, with no time to go home. She hadn’t expected such a big thing to happen at home.

“What now? Have you found him?” she asked anxiously.

“Uncle Zhao said he went to school yesterday! But because of the storm these days, the school is closed, and the teachers don’t know where he lives!” Xie Bingyan said angrily.

Xu Wanting breathed a sigh of relief. “As long as he’s attending school, it’s fine! But… why is he like this?”

“Isn’t it because he refuses to be disciplined? This rebellious child probably thinks his wings are strong enough to do whatever he wants! He even dared to ruin my dress. What else wouldn’t he dare to do?” Xie Bingyan said angrily.

“What do we do now? I don’t have his phone number or contact information,” Xu Wanting asked.

“I’ll ask someone else!” Xie Bingyan ended the call with her and immediately contacted others.

However, as she scrolled through her phone, she suddenly didn’t know who to ask.

Second, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth all said they didn’t have it, and Junzhe definitely wouldn’t have it either.

As for the others, it seemed they didn’t have it either.

Xie Bingyan scrolled through her phone, growing more and more frustrated.

This disobedient child, not even bothering to buy a new phone after losing it, clearly didn’t care about them at all.

She immediately got up and headed outside.

“Mom! Where are you going?”

“To No. 27 Middle School!” Xie Bingyan said angrily, signaling for the driver to come and drive.

“I’ll go with you!” Xu Manni followed her.

Xie Bingyan didn’t intervene, bringing her along quickly to No. 27 Middle School and finding the school’s Principal.

“Xu Mo? Isn’t Xu Mo an orphan? Does he have parents?”

“Well…” Xie Bingyan’s face immediately turned ugly. After some thought, she said, “We’re his relatives and want to ask about his contact information. Where does he live?”

“We do have his contact information. Let me find it for you! But I don’t know if you’ll be able to reach him,” a teacher said, providing Xie Bingyan with a phone number.

Xie Bingyan eagerly dialed the number, only to discover that it had long been overdue for payment.

Comparing it to the contact information in her phone, she realized it was the same number Xu Mo had when he lost his phone.

“Is there any other way to contact him?”

“No, just this one! But come to think of it, Xu Mo has relatives? I always thought he was an orphan!” The teacher, a middle-aged woman, curiously scrutinized Xie Bingyan. “You’re dressed nicely. You must be quite wealthy!”

“What do you mean?” Xie Bingyan stared at the teacher.

“Nothing! It’s good that Xu Mo has relatives! But with the storm coming in the past few days, school’s out, so he won’t be coming for classes! If you want to find him, it might take three or four days!” The middle-aged woman, Xu Mo’s homeroom teacher named Lin Chuyu, spoke.

Seeing that there were no other contact methods for Xu Mo, Xie Bingyan’s face turned extremely unpleasant. Without saying much, she left the school directly.

“When we find him, I must give him a good lesson! How dare he run away from home!” Xie Bingyan’s anger surged as she dialed Xu Deming’s number again.

“Xu Deming, are you still at work? Your son is missing. Aren’t you coming home to look for him?”

Seeing the storm outside, Xu Deming felt increasingly anxious. Upon receiving Xie Bingyan’s call, he hurriedly headed home.

“The school doesn’t have any information, and neither does anywhere else! He doesn’t have a phone, no contact information. Both the eldest and the second said they don’t have his phone number!” Xie Bingyan glared at Xu Deming, her anger boiling. “What’s his phone number? Where could he possibly have gone?”

Xu Manni interjected, “Mom, don’t get angry. He’ll surely come back with his tail between his legs in a few days! He’s just trying to play his cards right by staying away for now.”

Xu Deming’s expression grew grave. “Did you try reaching out to others?”

“We did, but no luck! His phone is lost. Why didn’t you buy him a new one?” Xie Bingyan glared at Xu Deming, her voice filled with frustration.

“I thought you guys took care of it. How would I know?” Xu Deming hurriedly responded. “Quick, call the eldest, the second, the fourth, the fifth, the sixth, and Junzhe. Tell them to come back!”

“Wait! Don’t call Junzhe yet! He’s about to take the college entrance exam, and he’s really focused on studying lately. Let’s not disturb him and affect his concentration!” Xie Bingyan expressed concern for their adopted son, afraid that Junzhe might be bothered by Xu Mo’s situation.

In recent years, the reason they haven’t paid much attention to Xu Mo is because, besides his many flaws, they’re afraid Xu Junzhe might feel like an outsider if they focus too much on Xu Mo.

Xie Bingyan and Xu Deming have been carefully protecting their adopted son’s fragile heart, ensuring he can concentrate on his college entrance exams without Xu Mo’s situation bothering him.

The nurturing love over the past decade, Xu Junzhe has been cherished by the Xu family, and they wouldn’t easily change that, especially not just because Xu Mo returned.

Xie Bingyan sighed, “Call the eldest, the second, the fourth, the fifth, and the sixth. Tell them to come back as soon as possible! Oh, and if the sixth is too busy with school, there’s no need for her to come back. Her studies are important!”

“Okay!” Despite her dissatisfaction, Xu Manni still messaged her sisters.

Not long after, there was the sound of a car parking outside the Xu family mansion, followed by the sound of the engine shutting off as someone parked in the garage.

A young woman in a professional suit stepped out of the car.

She was exceedingly beautiful, tall and slender, with delicate features that resembled a painting.

“When did Xu Mo leave?” the professional woman asked casually as she entered.

This was Xu Deming and Xie Bingyan’s eldest daughter, Xu Wanting. Now a high-ranking executive in the family business, she specialized in cosmetics sales and was always busy developing new markets.

“Five days ago!” Xu Manni spoke up.

“Let’s wait for Second and Third Daughter to come back! Sixth daughter said she’s too busy with school and doesn’t have time to return!”

Xu Wanting glanced at Xie Bingyan and Xu Deming, furrowing her brow. “Okay!”

On one hand this is sad. On the other they’re really dumb. They should know to at least toe the line of legality.

Their actions are definitely admissible in court as neglect… and in theory the adults and eldest sister should know to avoid that. Even while protecting their favorite child’s feelings
