Delayed Affection is Cheaper than Grass; Why Cry When I Depart? Chapter 72

Chapter 72: So, He Already Knew!

Xie Bingyan trembled violently, her eyes filled with disbelief.

She might not understand how Xu Mo knew, or perhaps it was the fear of her scheme being exposed. Her hand holding the teacup shook uncontrollably, spilling tea everywhere.

In a panic, she threw the teacup onto the table.

“Xie Bingyan, tell me why!” Xu Deming roared, glaring at her.

Xu Wanting and Xu Xuehui, along with the others, were equally shocked. They all stared at Xie Bingyan, finding it unimaginable that she had personally abandoned her own son.

The Xu family was wealthy, far from ordinary. They never lacked food or clothing, and there was never a question of not being able to afford raising a child.

Thinking back, when Xu Mo was found four years ago, it was the police who notified them, finding him in an orphanage in the eastern part of the city, not far from the Xu family’s home.

Perhaps for those fourteen years, Xie Bingyan always knew where Xu Mo was but simply refused to bring him back. As for why she later decided to take him back, it was as incomprehensible as why she abandoned her own son in the first place.

“No matter what you say, changing the household registration is impossible!” Xie Bingyan clearly didn’t want to explain, glaring coldly at Xu Mo.

“Do you really want to make this ugly for everyone?” Xu Mo shouted angrily.

“I am your mother. You can’t change that in this lifetime, and you shouldn’t even think about it! As for anything else… I have nothing more to say!” Xie Bingyan clearly had no intention of continuing the conversation with Xu Mo. She stood up immediately and walked towards her room.

“Xie Bingyan!” Xu Deming shouted furiously.

However, Xie Bingyan did not turn back and quickly retreated to her room.

Xu Mo hadn’t expected this outcome. His anger surged, infuriated by Xie Bingyan’s stubbornness.

He immediately turned to look at Xu Deming.

Xu Deming, also seething with anger, seeing that Xie Bingyan wouldn’t stop, turned to Xu Mo and said, “Xu Mo, I firmly oppose this as well! Don’t think you can go through with this! You are a son of the Xu family, and no one can change that!”

“Dammit!”

Xu Mo, unable to hold back any longer, erupted in anger and flipped the table over.

“Boom!”

“I came here to talk to you nicely, but don’t think for a second you can disrespect me! You all know exactly what you’ve done, isn’t exploiting me enough for you?” Xu Mo shouted furiously. “I’m telling you, if you won’t let me live peacefully, none of you will have peace!”

Xu Deming, startled by the chaos, shouted angrily, “If this is something Xie Bingyan did, we’ll find a way to make it right for you, but this matter—changing your household registration—is out of the question!”

With that, Xu Deming also turned and walked towards his room.

Xu Mo’s rage intensified. He waved his hand and yelled, “Smash everything!”

Tang Lei and Gu Huanxi were taken aback. “Smash everything?”

“Smash everything!” Xu Mo commanded angrily.

Seeing this, Tang Lei didn’t hesitate. He immediately signaled to the people behind him to wreck the entire living room.

Xu Wanting and Xu Xuehui were shocked.

“Xu Mo, don’t do this, it’s all Eldest Sister’s fault! Please, stop this!” Xu Wanting cried again.

Xu Mo shot them a cold glance, still feeling unsatisfied. He picked up the teapot and hurled it to the ground with force.

“We’re leaving!” he declared.

Xu Mo had no intention of staying any longer. He grabbed the documents and turned to leave.

Xu Wanting and Xu Xuehui, seeing this, couldn’t help but start crying.

Xu Mo quickly made his way outside the villa.

The convoy began to turn around and head back.

They hadn’t anticipated the outcome of this situation, as such matters were hard to predict. Xu Mo initially thought the issue wouldn’t be too significant. However, he hadn’t expected Xie Bingyan and Xu Deming to try to hold him hostage in this way.

This made Xu Mo especially furious.

The convoy quickly started and headed back to Mingding Building. Once back in his office, Xu Mo slumped onto the sofa, his face clouded with mixed emotions.

The office was dead silent, so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

A heavy, oppressive atmosphere filled the room.

Tang Lei and Gu Huanxi exchanged a look and said helplessly, “Xu Mo, we need to head to Tsinghua University for registration.”

Xu Mo looked up at them and asked, “Have you ever seen such shameless people?”

Tang Lei and Gu Huanxi shook their heads.

“You haven’t seen! Neither have I! I never thought they could be so despicable!” Xu Mo fumed.

Gu Huanxi sighed, “If they don’t relent, it will be difficult to proceed. Their stance seems very resolute.”

Xu Mo remained silent.

Tang Lei sighed as well. “Xu Mo, we need to report to the university first. We can wait for a while before proceeding further. After all, the company still needs to continue its development.”

Xu Mo naturally understood that engaging in severe conflicts with the Xu family would be highly detrimental to the company’s stability and growth over the coming period.

Having lived with the Xu family for four years, Xu Mo was keenly aware of the family’s significant influence.

He hadn’t intended to conflict with them, but Xu Mo hadn’t anticipated that Xie Bingyan would be so shameless and despicable.

Xu Mo took a deep breath, quickly poured a glass of water, and gulped it down, struggling to suppress his anger.

“Xu Mo! Let’s set aside the Xu family matters for now! Anyway, we probably won’t need the household registration documents anytime soon. Most things can be handled with just the ID card!” Gu Huanxi walked over to comfort him.

The anger in Xu Mo’s eyes was hard to quell. “This isn’t over yet! Do they think they can control me like this? This isn’t over!”

“I understand, I understand! There’s no need to confront them for now. Take some time to rest and calm down first, don’t get angry!” Gu Huanxi reassured him.

Xu Mo glanced at her, his face pale, and nodded.

Meanwhile, at the Xu family villa.

The living room was in utter chaos, with most things smashed.

The sofas and coffee tables in the Xu family were quite expensive, many of them branded goods costing tens or even hundreds of thousands. Most of them were now broken from the smashing.

Xu Wanting hadn’t expected that after Xu Mo came home, things would escalate to this extent. She collapsed on the floor, crying for quite some time, unable to get up.

Xu Shuying’s eyes were swollen with tears as she called Zhao Ma over to tidy up the living room.

In another room, Xu Deming had already started arguing loudly, demanding to know the truth about what Xie Bingyan did back then.

However, Xie Bingyan seemed unwilling to respond, remaining silent.

Xu Wanting and the others were also clueless about why Xie Bingyan had acted the way she did years ago, feeling as if they had been plunged into an icy abyss.

After Zhao Ma finished cleaning up the living room and approached Xu Wanting to sit beside her, she handed her a box of tissues.

Xu Wanting took the tissues and dabbed at her eyes, but her tears wouldn’t stop.

“He knew! He knew everything! I just forgot!” Xu Wanting suddenly spoke up.

Xu Shuying looked at her but remained silent.

“At first, I really cared a lot! I knew Dad’s temperament well, Deverna was bound to be divided sooner or later! Whenever I saw him in Deverna, I couldn’t bear it! I knew a biological brother is different from others. Dad brought him back to take over the family business!” Xu Wanting said dully, looking lost.

“I had the security beat him up just to make him leave, to keep him away from Deverna! But it turns out, he already knew!”

Xu Shuying clearly hadn’t expected her eldest sister to be like this.

In her mind, her elder sister had always been fair, outstanding, and rational. From childhood to adulthood, she had excelled academically, a paragon of excellence admired by others.

Most of them had been influenced to some extent by Xu Wanting. She had been a role model for them. However, it seemed this model had now collapsed.

Part of Deverna’s development was indeed thanks to Xu Wanting’s efforts. She had been in charge of Deverna for many years, leading its rapid growth.

However, ultimately, Deverna had long been part of the Xu family’s assets. If they were to divide the family estate in the future, it would certainly be divided.

Xu Deming was actually quite traditional. The reason he had desperately wanted a son back then was precisely so that the son could inherit the family business.

He indeed loved his adopted son, and that wasn’t wrong. However, when it came to matters of principle and right and wrong, he would still make clear distinctions.

The Xu family estate would most likely be left to Xu Mo in the future.

Perhaps it was because of this that Xu Wanting became wary, eventually turning into deep-seated resentment!

She probably didn’t even realize it herself.

But Xu Mo knew.

Her inner darkness had been exposed.

No wonder in their previous meetings, Xu Mo hadn’t shown a pleasant expression.

At this moment, Xu Wanting suddenly hugged her own legs, curling up under the sofa, trembling all over.

“Why? Why did Mom abandon him?” she exclaimed.

Xu Shuying’s mind was filled with doubts.
