Delayed Affection is Cheaper than Grass; Why Cry When I Depart? Chapter 75

Chapter 75: He Doesn’t Even Recognize Me

Xu Deming called over his secretary and instructed him to go to No. 27 High School to find out which school Xu Mo had enrolled in.

Although Xu Mo was unlikely to let them accompany him, they needed to at least know where he would be studying!

Speaking of which, the situation at home had always been rather peculiar.

He had indeed been very busy before, immersed in company affairs day in and day out, stressed and overwhelmed, with no time to attend to household matters.

He had long ago set clear rules with Xie Bingyan: she managed things at home, and he focused solely on external matters. As a result, he didn’t know much about what was happening within the household.

Xu Mo’s remarks suggested that Xie Bingyan was fully implicated in potential mistreatment.

Now, Xu Wanting, Xu Xuehui, and Xu Manni were likely involved as accomplices.

“Eldest , let’s talk later,” Xu Deming suddenly said to Xu Wanting.

“Okay,” Xu Wanting nodded.

“You too, Fifth, come over,” Xu Deming looked at Xu Shuying.

Xu Shuying glanced at everyone and quickly nodded, following him.

With Xu Junzhe leaving for Tsinghua tomorrow, Xie Bingyan and Xu Deming were likely to accompany him. Additionally, Xu Wanting had business to attend to in Beijing, so she would probably go along as well.

Before leaving, they needed to clarify matters concerning Xiahai City as much as possible.

The three of them arrived at the backyard together.

Here, there was a fish pond with many large carp swimming around.

They remembered that when Xu Mo was still at home, he often liked to come here to watch or feed the fish. He would often lean on the rocks and watch them for hours on end.

The rocks were still there, but Xu Mo was nowhere to be seen.

Xu Deming picked up some fish food nearby and fed it to the large carp in the pond. Seeing Xu Wanting and Xu Shuying approaching, he gestured towards some chairs nearby. “Sit!”

Xu Wanting and Xu Shuying glanced at each other and sat down.

Three days ago, Xu Deming had a heated argument with Xie Bingyan, which escalated significantly, leaving him deeply troubled.

He hadn’t expected things to escalate to this extent.

“Regarding Xu Mo’s situation at home, how much do you two know?” Xu Deming asked, looking at them.

“A lot,” Xu Wanting replied.

“Has it been like this since he returned home?” Xu Deming inquired further.

“He was quite happy when he first came home. I took him around everywhere, but soon things started to change slowly. It’s all my fault. I didn’t realize Xu Mo was different from others,” Xu Shuying said remorsefully.

“I realized it, but I didn’t want to admit it!” Xu Wanting exclaimed. “I had the security beat him up and kick him out of the company!”

Xu Deming furrowed his brow.

“Dad! What’s going on with Mom? Why would she do that?” Xu Wanting asked, tears welling in her eyes.

Xu Deming sighed and shook his head. “She won’t say, but it probably has to do with something from eighteen years ago, maybe to retaliate against me. I’m not sure exactly what it is.”

“Was it because the family pressured Mom to keep giving birth? I remember that year she did have a severe hemorrhage!” Xu Shuying interjected.

Xu Deming nodded solemnly. “Back then, traditional beliefs were like that. It’s not just our Xu family; the Xie family was similar. When she returned to Beijing to the Xie family, she was also instructed by her parents that only male heirs could inherit the family business.”

“Just because of that, she threw Xu Mo away?”

Xu Deming shook his head. “There may be other reasons that I’m not aware of yet. Despite her tough exterior, your mom is deeply regretful.”

Xu Wanting fell silent.

In these past few days, Xie Bingyan’s condition had indeed been strange. She hardly left her room, looking frail and emaciated, as if aging overnight. Lines etched across her face, giving her a withered appearance.

Previously meticulous, elegant, serious, and dignified, Xie Bingyan always dressed impeccably as befitting a wealthy woman. How did she let herself become like this?

Yesterday, Xu Wanting took a look inside and was startled!

“Is Mom okay?” Xu Wanting asked anxiously.

“She’s fine! Let her rest for a few days! Her side of the story hasn’t been explained yet!” Xu Deming said, “Rather than worrying about her, I’m more concerned about Xu Mo’s situation! Can any of you still contact him?”

Xu Wanting and Xu Shuying shook their heads.

“All of you… none of you could handle this matter? None of you have his contact information? It’s been four years, what have you all been doing?” Xu Deming was getting angry.

“I… I’m sorry for what happened to him!”

Xu Wanting cried, “I’ve done so many things that hurt him, Dad. You don’t know. He used to admire me a lot, but now it’s all gone! He doesn’t even recognize me anymore!”

Xu Shuying’s eyes welled up too, “Director Tang should be able to contact him! And Jiang Tingting from the Jiang family might also have his contact information. I’ll ask at the hospital!”

“Let’s see if we can reach him!” Xu Deming said, feeling increasingly distressed seeing Xu Wanting cry.

The three of them talked for a while, and Xu Deming got a rough understanding of Xu Mo’s situation in the Xu family.

Xie Bingyan was indeed as strict as a devil, and it was unclear what her psychological state was to abuse Xu Mo like that.

Xu Deming temporarily didn’t want to pursue this matter and first sent Xu Junzhe to report to Tsinghua University.

The plane tickets were already booked, and several people went together.

Xu Junzhe looked quite happy, chatting and laughing with Xu Manni and others.

At this moment, even Xie Bingyan, who had been lying in bed for several days, dressed up and went out.

She put on heavy makeup to conceal her withered face, but Xu Wanting still noticed that there were more and more white hairs on her head.

“Dad! I found out that Xu Mo is also attending Tsinghua University!”

“He’s also at Tsinghua?”

“Yes!”

“That’s good news!”

Finding out that Xu Mo was attending university at Tsinghua, Xu Deming was quite pleased. It would be best if they were together at Tsinghua, saving them from running around between two places.

“Let’s not tell your mom for now! It might trigger another episode!” Xu Deming said sharply.

“Mom’s recent condition…” Xu Wanting expressed concern.

“Don’t worry about her! She won’t die anytime soon! She brought this upon herself and she’ll have to face the consequences! Now I need to see how she explains herself to the family and to Xu Mo!” Xu Deming’s tone was resolute.

Xu Wanting glanced around and realized there seemed to be no easy solution. Xu Mo now knew it was Xie Bingyan who abandoned him and subjected him to blatant mistreatment. He would never forgive her.

Unable to transfer his household registration this time, Xu Mo was furious. If he found an opportunity, he might seek revenge on the Xu family for the suffering they caused over the years.

“Neither Xie Bingyan nor herself would likely escape retaliation,” Xu Wanting thought. She wasn’t worried that Xu Mo would harm her physically, but she felt deeply saddened. She had awakened to the truth too late, causing irreparable damage.

“I carry a heavy burden of guilt too. As the eldest sister, almost like a mother, if only I had paid more attention, perhaps things wouldn’t have turned out like this! These past four years, You’ve gone through too much. I’m sorry, Xu Mo!” Xu Wanting said, tears streaming down her face.

Xu Deming glanced at her but remained silent.

“Pack your bags! Get your clothes ready!”

“Also your sneakers, phone!”

“Hat, everything you need, make sure it’s all packed!”

Xie Bingyan helped Xu Junzhe check his luggage, gently reminding him with great care.

She appeared almost the same as before, except for a few gray hairs showing, not much different.

Xu Junzhe felt uneasy. Seeing her like this, he quickly smiled, “Mom, I’ve already got everything ready! Nothing’s left behind!”

“Good good good! As long as nothing’s left behind!” Xie Bingyan smiled kindly.

For some reason, looking at Xie Bingyan like this, Xu Junzhe suddenly felt a sense of dread.

He couldn’t understand what was happening in the Xu family now.

“But…” A hint of ruthlessness emerged in Xu Junzhe’s mind. “I absolutely won’t allow anyone to take away what’s mine! Absolutely not! Now that Xu Mo is gone, even better!”

Xu Deming could see that Xie Bingyan was completely putting on a show for him.

Pretending to care for their adopted son, all seemingly to spite him!

Xu Deming felt nothing but a headache and didn’t want to deal with this crazy woman.

The group soon boarded the plane, headed straight to Beijing!
