Delayed Affection is Cheaper than Grass; Why Cry When I Depart? Chapter 8.2

Xie Bingyan and Xu Deming were no longer worried.

Xu Junzhe returned home, and the family was now in high spirits. Moreover, since the police mentioned that Xu Mo should be fine, Xie Bingyan and Xu Deming became even less anxious. From the third floor, Xu Wanting looked down at the living room, where her parents and younger siblings were chatting, laughing, and enjoying snacks, causing her heart to suddenly convulse once more.

Xu Mo is still missing, yet they manage to find laughter.

Xu Wanting, unable to ignore the situation, took out her phone and made a call, “Hello! Xiaoxu, you and Xiaoan, go to the police station to inquire about my brother. Yes, my other brother. The police are investigating at Qingming Police Station. Go and ask them, have them check. If there’s any news, inform me immediately!”

“Got it!”

After instructing her bodyguards to contact the police, Xu Wanting made another call, summoning her secretary and handing over her phone, instructing her to unlock it. She needed to know what kind of person Xu Mo really was. For four years, it seemed she, as his elder sister, had never truly understood him!

After giving the orders, Xu Wanting waited for a while.

She looked down at her parents and younger siblings still playing below, feeling unable to bear it, she turned and went back.

After a while, a call came in, “Sister, the police have found Xu Mo, but…”

“But what?” Xu Wanting’s breathing quickened, fearing an unexpected turn of events.

“Sister, come to the police station and see for yourself! Xu Mo should be okay!” The female bodyguard, sensing Xu Wanting’s worry, hurriedly explained.

Unable to stay put, Xu Wanting immediately left for the police station.

Before long, she arrived at the station, with both female bodyguards waiting there. The police swiftly showed them a video. Xu Wanting glanced at it, her face freezing, eyes widening.

Instantly, she covered her mouth, her eyes turning red.

“At Ansui Road Vegetable Market, he’s still there! You can find him there!” the senior police officer said.

Xu Wanting felt a wave of intense bitterness welling up in her nose.

Without saying much, she swiftly left the police station and started her car toward Ansui Road Vegetable Market.

The market was crowded, bustling with people, making it difficult to find a parking spot.

Xu Wanting had to settle for a parking space and then proceeded toward the market with her two female bodyguards.

As the daughter of a prominent family, Xu Wanting had never been to such a place as a vegetable market. Once inside, she felt lightheaded, surrounded by garbage, disorder, and even dead fish and shrimp, with flies buzzing all around.

Due to the recent storm, the market was littered with fallen leaves and garbage, sticky, damp, and nauseating. The stench of dead fish wafted through the air, nearly causing Xu Wanting to retch!

“Are you okay, Sister Ting?” one of the female bodyguards asked, concerned upon seeing Xu Wanting’s distress.

She knew Xu Wanting had never been to such a place.

As an heiress from an affluent family, Xu Wanting had always had her meals prepared by maids or sourced from supermarkets. She had never had the occasion to visit such a place, especially one so filthy, damp, and utterly repulsive—each step likely to land in something dirty.

The smell inside left Xu Wanting pale and her stomach churning, especially the fishy odor, which she found intolerable.

Quickly grabbing a tissue to cover her nose and mouth, she reluctantly stepped inside.

“Fresh live shrimp, fresh live crabs!”

“Forty-two yuan per pound, forty-two yuan per pound! Get them while they last, or they’ll be gone!”

“Auntie, do you want three pounds? Sir, would you like some live shrimp? Come quickly, come quickly! They’ll be gone if you’re late!”

Xu Mo, dressed in a short-sleeved shirt and shorts, held a scale, weighing the crabs and live shrimp for customers.

It seemed to still be raining, the storm hadn’t stopped, and the market was very damp. He had a bit of dirt on his clothes and hair.

“Come on, come on! Live shrimp, live crabs!” Xu Mo continued to attract customers, eager to sell off his goods as quickly as possible.

Covering her nose, Xu Wanting approached.

“Madam…” Xu Mo looked up, slightly taken aback.

Xu Wanting stared at him.

Naturally recognizing Xu Wanting, Xu Mo furrowed his brow slightly, unsure of why she was here. However, he didn’t bother, as he noticed other customers gathering around. “Madam, would you like some live crabs? Guaranteed fresh! Only 42 yuan per pound, very affordable!”

“Give me two pounds!”

“Alright, Madam, just wait! These crabs are all plump, see, each one is quite heavy!” Xu Mo smiled.

Today, he had brought out over eighty pounds of live shrimp and crabs, and they were almost sold out.

By now, he had recovered most of his costs, with the remainder set to be sold the following morning. Today, he was the only one selling live shrimp and crabs at the market, which explained the brisk sales.

After selling the last two pounds of live crabs, Xu Mo immediately began packing up, preparing to leave.

“Xu Mo!”

Seeing Xu Mo ignoring her, Xu Wanting’s eyes welled up, and she hurriedly called out.

She couldn’t fathom Xu Mo working in such a place!

Glancing up, Xu Mo asked, “What are you doing here?” as he continued to tidy up, his tone indifferent.

Upon realizing he didn’t even acknowledge her as his elder sister, Xu Wanting’s heart clenched, and she quickly asked, “We’ve been looking for you! Where have you been these past few days?”

“Looking for me? What for? I’ve been really busy!” Xu Mo replied, loading his things onto his small trailer, intending to take the bus home.

There were still live shrimp and crabs at home that needed tending to.

“Xu Mo, you’ve been missing for six or seven days. Mom and Dad are beside themselves with worry. Shouldn’t we have tried to find you? Come home with me first!” Xu Wanting, seeing Xu Mo about to leave, hurried over and grabbed his hand.

Xu Mo immediately struggled, freeing his hand from hers, and said with a smile, “Miss Xu, what are you doing? I’m really busy right now and don’t have time for this back-and-forth with you! Just go wherever you came from!”

“Where are you going, Xu Mo?” Xu Wanting, seeing Xu Mo pulling his small trailer to leave, hurriedly stopped him.

“I’m going to catch the bus! I’m not like you!” Xu Mo said calmly. “Move aside, I’m in a hurry!”

“Xu Mo, don’t even think about leaving! Come home with me first and explain things to Mom and Dad!” Xu Wanting blocked his path, refusing to let him leave.

Glancing at her, Xu Mo suddenly chuckled, “Miss Xu, what’s gotten into you? Do I have parents? No! I’ll make myself clear! Besides, since you’ve already found your way here, you should already understand everything! Why are you stopping me?”

“I still don’t understand, and Mom and Dad don’t understand either! They are all looking for you!” Xu Wanting exclaimed urgently.

“Looking for me?” Xu Mo found it amusing. “Miss Xu, don’t you feel embarrassed saying that? Anyway, I’m tired and don’t want to argue with you. I’m leaving!”

“Xu Mo—” Xu Wanting, seeing him persist in leaving, once again tried to hold him back.

Suddenly, she exerted force, and for some reason, it seemed Xu Mo staggered, and she inadvertently pulled him down.

Startled, Xu Wanting called out, “Xu Mo?”

Looking closer, she saw that Xu Mo had already fainted on the ground.

I’m a little disappointed. I know it’s pointless to hope but hey.
