DLSRWAR Chapter 16 But I’d still dare next time.
The next morning, Qin Yumian arrived at the classroom with Hao Jiajia.
Chen Lanping had hoped to use the incident as leverage to have Qin Yumian expelled, but to her surprise, not only had Qin Yumian not been expelled, but the incident had also revealed additional complexities.
Seeing Qin Yumian arriving for class unscathed, Chen Lanping’s expression darkened, as if someone owed her a fortune.
Having already been reprimanded by the principal the day before, Chen Lanping was wary. She had ambitions to transfer to No. 1 High School, and if her teaching record was tainted, she would be forever stuck at No. 2 High School, teaching the lower-tier classes like the Class 4.
So, unusually, Chen Lanping did not seek out trouble with Qin Yumian that day.
Yang Mao remarked in disbelief, “Huh, is the sun rising in the west today? Is Sun Erniang actually not causing trouble for the sports rep?”
Hao Jiajia flipped through a magazine borrowed from other students. “It’s good she isn’t causing trouble. Yesterday, she was the only one insisting the principal expel the sports rep. Thankfully, the principal showed righteousness and gave us justice.”
Yang Mao asked, “By the way, where’s the sports rep?”
“Cleaning the office.”
…
Qin Yumian had initially gone alone to clean the office, but as soon as she stepped out of the classroom, Ye Hancheng had followed her.
“Wif—Sports rep, I’ll go with you,” the young man said, wearing his uniform askew. As he passed the trash can, he casually threw away his empty milk carton.
Qin Yumian paused and turned to look at the young man. “I’m going to clean the office.”
“I know,” Ye Hancheng said, closing the distance between them in a few strides. “It’s no fun going alone. I’m quite the friendly classmate, so I’ve decided to accompany you.”
Qin Yumian: “…”
When they reached the office, they ran into Xue Qingxing, who was standing by the door.
Seeing Qin Yumian, Xue Qingxing’s usually reserved eyes brightened noticeably. “Mianmian, I came to help you clean the office.”
Ye Hancheng raised an eyebrow, strode over, and grasped Xue Qingxing by the collar, effortlessly pulling him aside. “We don’t need your help here. You can go.”
And by the way, what Mianmian? Who are you calling Mianmian?
Xue Qingxing: “…”
Xue Qingxing’s eyes widened in shock as he stared at the young man. Was he some kind of strongman? He had lifted him up so effortlessly.
Xue Qingxing secretly pinched his own arm. He didn’t seem that thin, did he?
Qin Yumian spoke up. “You should go back to class. I can handle this on my own.”
Xue Qingxing hesitated. “But you were punished with cleaning the office because of me.”
Qin Yumian replied, “Did you ask me to go after Xu Lili?”
Xue Qingxing shook his head. If it hadn’t been for their class’ Teacher Xu bringing Xu Lili to confront Qin Yumian, he wouldn’t have known she had hit someone.
“My actions have nothing to do with you,” Qin Yumian said, ruffling Xue Qingxing’s curly hair. “The finals are coming up. You should head back and study.”
“Well… alright then.” Xue Qingxing, whose nature was already somewhat soft, had no choice but to leave with his head hung low after Qin Yumian repeatedly issued him the eviction order.
Ye Hancheng, watching his wife touch another man’s head, felt an unappeasable annoyance.
With his arms crossed, the young man said in a sarcastic tone, “It seems you really enjoy patting his head.”
Just as Qin Yumian was about to enter the office, she heard the young man’s comment and stopped in her tracks. Turning toward him with a thoughtful expression, she said, “His hair is very soft.”
Ye Hancheng muttered under his breath, “My hair is soft too.”
Qin Yumian: “…”
Seeing the hint of grievance on the young man’s handsome face, Qin Yumian felt a mix of amusement and helplessness.
The petite girl tiptoed, raised her hand, and gently ruffled the young man’s hair.
Nodding, she offered her evaluation, “It really is soft.”
Ye Hancheng gazed at her close-up face, the corners of his mouth curving into a soft smile, his cheeks tinged with a faint pink. In that moment, he seemed to see a reflection of his past wife in her.
Lost in thought, he murmured, “Mianmian…”
With them being so close, the young man’s voice reached her ears clearly.
“The teachers will be here soon,” Qin Yumian said, pretending to be nonchalant as she withdrew her hand and walked into the office.
Ye Hancheng snapped back to reality, his ears turning red as he suddenly remembered something—
Was the hand that touched his head the same one that had touched Xue Qingxing’s?
His lips, which had just curved up, fell back into a serious line. He strode into the office, took the broom from Qin Yumian’s hand, and began sweeping the floor.
Qin Yumian didn’t argue with him but instead picked up a cloth to wipe the desk.
Ye Hancheng glanced at his wife’s slender waist, which seemed as if it could be encircled with just one hand. Calmly, he asked, “The hand you used to touch my head wasn’t the one that touched Xue Qingxing, was it?”
Qin Yumian paused her cleaning briefly. “No.”
Upon hearing this, Ye Hancheng’s mood brightened again. With a serious expression, he instructed, “From now on, you’re not allowed to touch Xue Qingxing’s head.”
Qin Yumian responded casually, “Oh.”
Ye Hancheng wielded the broom with a casual, almost playful manner, sweeping a few strokes here and there.
Seeing this, Qin Yumian couldn’t stand it any longer. She sent the young man off to clean the desks while she took over the broom and quickly had the floor swept clean.
With the office cleaned before the teachers arrived, Qin Yumian still needed to submit her self-reflection letter to the academic affairs director.
Ye Hancheng seemed to be glued to Qin Yumian’s side, following her wherever she went.
Old Ba, the academic affairs director, hadn’t been at school yesterday and only learned the full details of the situation from the principal that morning.
Old Ba’s surname is Gao. Aside from the mischievous students like Yang Mao, everyone in the school addressed him as Director Gao.
Upon opening the self-reflection letter Qin Yumian handed over, Director Gao glanced at her and remarked, “Let me guess, this letter isn’t just another excerpt from some novel, is it?”
Qin Yumian had written at least a hundred apology letters, if not thousands. Last time, she had even tried to fool him with an excerpt from a novel she had copied from somewhere.
And the time before that, she had copied a reading comprehension question from an exam paper.
Standing upright and maintaining a serious expression, Qin Yumian replied, “No, this time I wrote it myself.”
Director Gao looked at the few words on the paper, his forehead twitching with irritation. “This is your self-reflection letter?”
Qin Yumian blinked, “Director Gao, is there a problem?”
Director Gao took a sip of wolfberry tea to calm himself, barely resisting the urge to crumple the letter and throw it at Qin Yumian.
“I think you haven’t understood your mistake yet, take it back and rewrite it.”
Qin Yumian protested, “No, Director Gao, I believe I have deeply understood my mistake.”
Director Gao chuckled darkly, holding the letter up to her forehead. “Is this your profound understanding? A few lines meant to provoke me?”
The letter, with punctuation included, read just eleven words: “I shouldn’t have hit someone, but I’d still dare next time.”
