DLSRWAR Chapter 19 He just wanted to be someone’s husband.
Ye Hancheng hadn’t been feeling melancholy for long when the door to the private room was suddenly pushed open from the outside.
Qin Xian, expecting it to be the internet café manager delivering something, kept his eyes fixed on the computer screen, not even glancing at the newcomer. “Brother Han, why are you just standing there?”
Ye Hancheng: “…”
Ye Hancheng, stiff in his gaming chair, stared blankly at the girl who walked in. He instinctively stood up. “Wif—Sports rep, how come you are here?”
Given that his wife had a habit of barging in unexpectedly whenever they were out with friends after their marriage, Ye Hancheng had almost developed a reflexive reaction to such interruptions.
He felt inexplicably guilty.
Qin Yumian hadn’t expected to run into Ye Hancheng here. Her elegant brows arched slightly in surprise, but she didn’t say anything. Instead, she turned her attention to the teenage boy still seated, deeply engrossed in his game.
“Brother Han, are you disconnected? Why are you—What the hell?!”
Qin Xian’s collar was suddenly grabbed by someone, and a thick stick was pressed against his knees. A cold female voice came from behind him, “Here’s a chance for you to choose. Which leg do you want broken?”
Qin Xian: “…”
Startled, the boy leapt up as if there were needles under his chair, putting several inches of space between himself and Qin Yumian. He looked at her in disbelief. “How did you know I was here?”
Qin Yumian turned the gaming chair to face the boy, seated herself, and hefted the stick in her hand. Her gaze slowly scanned Qin Xian’s legs as if contemplating which one would be best to break.
Qin Xian suddenly felt a pang of fear, but he straightened his back and, despite feeling unsure inside, tried to project an air of authority. “This is our men’s secret space. No girls allowed.”
“Secret space?” Qin Yumian leaned back in her chair, waving the stick in the air with a casual flick, and propped her leg up with a nonchalant air. “It seems your ‘secret space’ is quite accessible. As long as you pay enough, anyone can get in.”
Qin Xian: “…”
Ye Hancheng: “…”
Why had he never noticed before that his wife had a bit of a sharp tongue?
tilted her head slightly and glanced at Ye Hancheng, who was standing behind her. “I have a bit of family business to handle. Could you please step outside for a moment, Brother Han?”
Ye Hancheng: “…”
Why did the words “Brother Han” sound so soft and tender when they came out of his wife’s mouth?
“Oh… sure.” Ye Hancheng responded, stunned, and then walked out of the private room in a daze.
As soon as the door clicked shut behind him, the room was filled with the sounds of the boy’s frantic shouting.
“Fuck! Qin Yumian, are you serious?!”
“I’m your dear little brother!”
“Damn it, damn it, damn it!! Spare my right leg—it didn’t do anything wrong… no, no, no, my left leg didn’t do anything wrong either…”
Outside the room, Ye Hancheng stood there, thinking to himself: The soundproofing in this small-town internet café’s private rooms is really terrible.
But when he thought about his little brother-in-law’s current predicament, Ye Hancheng had a sudden realization—could it be that he might end up just like his little brother-in-law in the future?
After all, his wife was genuinely wild now.
Ye Hancheng: “…”
No, he had to believe that his wife after marriage would still be the sweet little wife he knew.
Ye Hancheng closed his eyes and began to recall his little wife’s gentleness and softness. The next second, his little brother-in-law’s screaming echoed from inside the private room.
Ye Hancheng: “…”
The image of his sweet little wife shattered into pieces, leaving only the girl holding the stick as she walked out of the private room in front of him.
Qin Yumian opened the door and saw that Ye Hancheng hadn’t left. A smirk tugged at the corner of her lips, and her facial expression softened considerably. The delicate, beautiful face broke into a warm smile that disarmed anyone who saw it.
At least now, as Ye Hancheng looked at the smile on his wife’s face, his mind was completely free of any messy thoughts.
The only thought left was: “His wife’s smile is so beautiful.”
As Ye Hancheng lost himself in the stunning beauty of his wife, Qin Yumian spoke up, “Qin Xian said that you’ve given him a membership at this internet café, is that right?”
Ye Hancheng: “…”
Whatever happened to being good brothers and buddies?
Ye Hancheng hadn’t expected his little brother-in-law to sell him out so quickly.
Facing his wife’s dark, almond-shaped eyes, Ye Hancheng could only brace himself and nod. “Yes.”
Qin Yumian asked, “Can it be refunded?”
Ye Hancheng, who had mentally prepared himself for a beating, was momentarily taken aback by the question. He hesitated before responding, “It shouldn’t be refundable, I don’t think.”
He had paid for a year’s membership, and once the money was in someone’s pocket, it was unlikely they’d be willing to part with it.
“Is that so?” Qin Yumian lowered her long, thick lashes, which shadowed the emotions in her eyes. “How much was it? I’ll pay you back for Qin Xian.”
Ye Hancheng was startled. “Huh?”
Qin Yumian patiently repeated, “How much did you spend on the membership? I’ll reimburse you.”
Ye Hancheng quickly shook his head. “It wasn’t much. Besides, you’re my little sister. You called me ‘big brother’ just now, so it’s only right for an older brother to spend money on his younger sister!”
By the end, his expression was solemn and dignified, exuding a sense of righteousness.
Qin Yumian looked at his handsome face and suddenly let out a soft laugh.
Her eyes were slightly rounded with a natural upward tilt at the corners, as if lined with a delicate trace of eyeliner. When she smiled, her eyes sparkled as though filled with stars.
At that moment, Ye Hancheng found himself no longer wanting to be a “big brother”. He just wanted to be someone’s husband.
Qin Yumian tilted her head slightly and blinked. “Does the offer you made for me to help with your studies still stand?”
Ye Hancheng nodded immediately. Of course, it still stood. He had promised his big brother that if he didn’t meet the admissions requirements for Tsinghua-Peking University within six months, his big brother would find a way to bring him back to the capital.
Qin Yumian continued, “My grades aren’t very good, so I can’t help you with your studies. But Grandpa Lu is a retired professor from Tsinghua-Peking University. I was planning to ask him for some tutoring recently. If you don’t mind, you could join me.”
Ye Hancheng responded without hesitation, “Of course I don’t mind.”
How could he possibly mind being with his wife?
Qin Yumian said, “Then come to my house tomorrow morning.”
Ye Hancheng replied, “Okay.”
…
Before leaving the internet café, Qin Yumian asked the internet café manager about the cost of a year’s membership.
The internet café manager answered, “The annual membership is 500 yuan. There’s no need to pay more when using the internet; the expenses are deducted directly from the membership fee. As for the customer you asked about, he seems to have topped up 10,000 yuan.”
Qin Xian’s eyes widened at the figure. When he had seen Ye Hancheng hand the internet café manager a bank card, he hadn’t known how much was loaded onto the membership card.
“Qin Yumian, he—” Qin Xian clutched his thigh, sore from the beating, and looked at Qin Yumian in astonishment.
Qin Yumian gave him a fleeting glance, thanked the internet café manager, and left the café.
Qin Xian hobbled after her, his tone unusually serious. “Qin Yumian, you can’t be with him.”
“Did I say I was going to be with him?” Qin Yumian replied calmly.
Qin Xian fell silent. Indeed, she hadn’t said that.
