DLSRWAR Chapter 28 His family might actually own a mine.
As Qin Yumian walked out of the office, she ran into Ye Hancheng.
She glanced at the young man curiously and asked, “What are you doing here?”
Ye Hancheng, pretending to appear nonchalant, replied, “Just taking a walk.”
Hearing this, Qin Yumian didn’t ask further questions and continued heading toward the classroom.
As she brushed past Ye Hancheng, a faint scent of milk drifted into the young man’s nose.
Ye Hancheng turned to follow Qin Yumian, rubbing his nose as he remarked, “Sports rep, you smell like milk.”
Qin Yumian tilted her head and sniffed at her uniform. “It’s probably from holding Nannan earlier.”
She glanced sideways at the young man. “Does it smell bad?”
“No, it smells nice.”
His wife really suited the milky scent best.
They entered the classroom just as the bell rang for the first period, which was math.
The math teacher was surnamed Lu, but was known by everyone as Old Lu.
On the first day back from break, Old Lu didn’t start with new lessons but instead reviewed the final exam papers.
“Old Lu, I heard our class ranked second-to-last in math for the whole grade. Is that true?” Yang Mao raised his voice to ask.
“Yin Xi already told you?” Old Lu held the exam papers in his hand. “There are ten classes in the senior year, and our class ranked ninth in math. Doesn’t that sound like we did pretty well?”
“It does. Old Lu, we even moved up one spot from last time.”
Old Lu laughed, half-annoyed, half-amused. “That’s only because one of the students from Class 6 was late and missed the exam. Otherwise, do you think we’d still be second-to-last?”
Their Class 4 was infamous for being one of the worst in the school, usually landing in last place.
“Alright, take out your papers. We’ll spend the next two periods going over the exam. Also, starting today, we’ll have a test every week during evening study sessions. The first period will be for class, and the remaining two periods will be for taking the test.”
Yang Mao groaned, “Seriously? Old Lu, we still have homework to do.”
Evening study sessions at No. 2 High School ended at eleven o’clock, and by the time they got back to the dorm and showered, it would already be lights out.
Old Lu shot him a glance. “When have you ever turned in your homework?”
Yang Mao: “…”
After their protest failed, the class had no choice but to accept their fate.
They were already in their senior year, and not everyone in Class 4 was uninterested in studying seriously, so no one really voiced any objections.
As soon as the bell rang for the break, Wu Yu and the others gathered around Ye Hancheng. “Brother Han, where’d you get that motorcycle you rode today? It’s so cool!”
Ye Hancheng rested his chin on one hand, his eyes never straying from the girl sitting in front of him. “It was shipped over from the capital.”
“Hey, Brother Han, wanna go to the internet café? The third period is Sun Erniang’s class,” Big Fatty suggested.
“How do you plan to get out?” Ye Hancheng asked.
Wu Yu patted his chest confidently. “Last time, I had a drink with the uncle security guard and made a copy of the gate key while he was drunk.”
Big Fatty scratched his head and chuckled sheepishly. “But the uncle security guard took the key back.”
Wu Yu: “??”
Big Fatty admitted, “Last time, when I sneaked out for a meal, the uncle security guard caught me red-handed.”
Wu Yu: “…”
Wu Yu was so frustrated he wanted to throttle Big Fatty. “You unreliable idiot! It’s bad enough that you got the key confiscated, but you didn’t even bring back any food for us brothers when you snuck out!”
Deng Yuanze then asked the critical question. “So, how are we getting out now?”
Wu Yu sighed in defeat. “We’ll have to climb the wall.”
Big Fatty pointed at himself. “With my build? How am I supposed to climb?”
Wu Yu chuckled wickedly. “You could use your size to knock the uncle security guard out, grab the key, and then we can stroll out the front gate.”
Big Fatty shook his fist in front of Wu Yu, “I can use my fist as big as a sandbag to knock you out right now, believe it or not?”
Wu Yu: “…”
After the playful banter, Wu Yu looked over at Ye Hancheng. “Brother Han, are you coming?”
Big Fatty chimed in, “Sun Erniang’s class is the most boring. Come with us, Brother Han.”
Ye Hancheng was tempted. Chen Lanping’s class was English, a subject he was already good at, so…
He glanced at Qin Yumian, who was sitting at the front, being roped into painting her nails by Hao Jiajia and the others. Finally, Ye Hancheng nodded. “Alright, let’s go have some fun.”
After the second period ended, Ye Hancheng called Yang Mao and Hao Jiajia outside the classroom.
“Dad, what instructions do you have for your daughter?” Ever since Hao Jiajia had received a red envelope from Ye Hancheng, she had recognized him as her “Dad”.
Ye Hancheng couldn’t be bothered to correct her. “Keep an eye on your Mom for me. Don’t let any wild men get close to her, got it?”
“Who’s my Mom?” Hao Jiajia asked, confused.
“Sports rep,” Ye Hancheng replied.
Hao Jiajia snapped a salute. “Yes, Dad, mission accepted.”
Ye Hancheng pulled out a wad of cash from his wallet. “Make sure your Mom doesn’t notice anything, understand?”
Hao Jiajia’s eyes widened at the sight of the crisp hundred-yuan banknotes casually taken out by the young man. With trembling hands, she accepted the money. “Dad, you’re truly my real dad.”
Oh, Mom! Now she could buy tickets to her idol’s concert! She could even support her idol!
Yang Mao, watching from the side, felt his teeth ache from the scene. Hao Jiajia had completely become a slave to money.
He sneered to himself. He wouldn’t be so easily bought. After all, he was a loyal member of the “Qian-Mian Party” (Zhao Qian and Qin Yumian). How could he be swayed by something as vulgar as money?
But then Ye Hancheng pulled out another stack of banknotes and handed it to Yang Mao. “Go buy some snacks for the sports rep. Get the expensive ones, and you can keep the change.”
Yang Mao: “…”
Yang Mao had been eyeing a new gaming console for a while now, but it was way out of his budget. He’d been saving for months and was still far from having enough.
In the end, the lure of the gaming console proved too strong. Yang Mao finally decided to be a vulgar person. “Brother, don’t worry. Even if the sports rep wants Tang Monk’s meat, I’ll find a way to get it for her.”
Ye Hancheng replied, “…That’s not necessary.”
After giving Hao Jiajia and Yang Mao their tasks, Ye Hancheng skipped class with Wu Yu and the others to go to an internet café.
As she watched him walk away, Hao Jiajia nudged Yang Mao with her elbow. “What do you think my Dad’s family does for a living?”
He handed out hundreds and thousands of yuan so casually—it was obvious he wasn’t short on money.
Yang Mao said. “Didn’t you see the bike Brother Han rode to school this morning?”
“Of course, I saw it,” Hao Jiajia said, confused. “What about it? Is there something wrong with my Dad’s bike?”
“Nothing at all,” Yang Mao replied in a light tone. “It’s just that Brother Han’s bike is one of only five in the world, and each one costs over ten million yuan.”
Hao Jiajia: “…”
Yang Mao emphasized, “Global limited edition—only five exist.”
Hao Jiajia fell into deep thought. “Do you think it’s too late for me to be reborn as his daughter?”
Yang Mao shook his head and sighed. “Compared to him, Brother Zhao really doesn’t measure up.”
Zhao Qian’s family was considered moderately wealthy in Sangcheng. His father was a businessman, but he only ran a small business. Meanwhile, Ye Hancheng… Yang Mao suspected his family might actually own a mine.
