DLSRWAR Chapter 29 Real men only eat their wife’s leftovers.
Qin Yumian stretched one hand across the desk, her fingers painted with bright red nail polish, while her other hand held the corner of a comic book. She read it with a calm expression.
Yang Mao walked in carrying a white plastic bag. “Sports rep, want some snacks?” he asked, opening the bag to reveal an assortment of cookies, milk, and candy.
Hao Jiajia grabbed a bag of sunflower seeds, tearing it open as she started scrolling through Weibo, munching away.
Zhao Qian approached, noticing the table full of snacks, and glanced at Yang Mao.
Yang Mao: “…”
Yang Mao quickly stuffed a lollipop into his mouth, feeling a bit guilty.
Zhao Qian didn’t question the origin of the snacks. Instead, he turned to Qin Yumian and asked, “Sports rep, are you free tonight? Want to join us for dinner?”
Qin Yumian, who was being fed a piece of cookie by Hao Jiajia, looked up at Zhao Qian. “You mean skipping class to go out?”
“Yeah,” Zhao Qian confirmed. “Old Zheng is leaving to work, so we’re planning a farewell dinner for him. We’ll be done by ten tonight, I promise.”
The “Old Zheng” Zhao Qian mentioned was a classmate from their middle school days.
Qin Yumian frowned slightly. “He’s not finishing high school?”
“You know his grades,” Zhao Qian replied. “Even if the college entrance exam cutoff dropped by a hundred points, he still wouldn’t make it. Besides, he doesn’t enjoy studying. So after talking it over with his family, they decided he should go work, make some money, and in a couple of years, come back, fix up a house, and get married.”
Cases like Old Zheng’s weren’t uncommon in Sangcheng. Some people even became fathers at seventeen or eighteen.
Qin Yumian, who had a decent relationship with Old Zheng, hesitated for a moment before agreeing to the dinner.
After spending the morning playing games outside, Ye Hancheng and his friends returned, carrying bags of food for their classmates.
The food in the school cafeteria was cheap, but the taste was really hard to describe.
Used to these situations, Big Fatty and the group walked back to the classroom with their bags.
Ye Hancheng took one of the plastic bags from Big Fatty and headed straight toward Qin Yumian. “Sports rep, try this beef noodle.”
Hao Jiajia, ever quick to notice, immediately stood up to give her seat to Ye Hancheng. “Yang Mao, don’t move! I want the Lanzhou ramen in your hand.”
Qin Yumian replied in a light tone, “I’ve already had lunch.”
Her red nail polish had yet to be washed off, the vibrant red accentuating her delicate fingers and making them appear even more fair.
“Did you eat in the cafeteria?” Ye Hancheng asked, opening the lid of the noodle box he was holding. “The food there is barely edible. Try a few bites first; if you can’t finish it, I will.”
Qin Yumian: “…”
At that moment, Yang Mao sidled up to Hao Jiajia, offering a flatteringly smile. “Jiajia, can you spare me a bite?”
Hao Jiajia slurped up some fragrant noodles. “Wait until I finish, then I’ll give you the last bite.”
Yang Mao’s eyes widened. “Real men only eat their wife’s leftovers.”
Qin Yumian: “…”
Ye Hancheng saw no problem with this. Before his rebirth, he had often eaten his wife’s leftovers.
Breaking apart a pair of disposable chopsticks, Ye Hancheng stirred the beef noodles a few times and raised an eyebrow at Qin Yumian. “Sports rep, if you don’t eat, I might have to feed you.”
Qin Yumian was speechless. She took the chopsticks from his hand. “I’ll eat it myself.”
Having already had lunch, Qin Yumian found it hard to finish the bowl of beef noodles, but glancing at the young man next to her, engrossed in his phone, she forced herself to eat a few more bites.
Ye Hancheng played a few rounds of games when he suddenly heard a tiny hiccup from beside him.
The sound seemed to have been deliberately suppressed, but a hiccup was hardly something one could control, resulting in a particularly soft sound.
Turning to look at the girl beside him, Ye Hancheng saw Qin Yumian covering her mouth with her hand, her black-and-white eyes filled with embarrassment as she glanced at him and then blinked.
Ye Hancheng: “…”
Fuck! How could his wife be so adorable?
His gaze fell on the large portion of beef noodles still remaining on the table. Ye Hancheng lowered his voice and asked, “Can’t you eat anymore?”
Qin Yumian: “…”
Although she was reluctant to admit it, she indeed couldn’t finish the meal.
Qin Yumian, feeling quite disheartened, nodded slightly, a soft hiccup escaping from her lips at the same time.
Qin Yumian: “…”
Was it too late to dig a hole and bury herself?
Ye Hancheng extended his hand and pulled the bowl of beef noodles toward himself. “If you can’t eat, then don’t force it.”
Then, he raised his hand and patted her on the back, “How is it? Do you want some milk?”
As he spoke, Ye Hancheng turned to shout towards Wu Yu and the others. “Big Fatty, bring a bottle of milk—strawberry flavor.”
“Got it, brother.” Big Fatty quickly complied and soon returned with a bottle of strawberry milk. “Brother, anything else you need?”
Ye Hancheng waved him off, signaling that there was nothing more. Big Fatty then lumbered back to his seat.
Ye Hancheng inserted the straw into the milk carton and handed it to Qin Yumian, then resumed eating the noodles with an air of casual nonchalance.
Qin Yumian, sipping the milk through the straw, noticed that despite still hiccuping, the young man beside her wasn’t mocking her. This made her feel a bit better about the situation.
Observing how the young man ate her noodles, Qin Yumian couldn’t help but ask, “You really don’t mind?”
Why would someone from such a wealthy family be willing to eat someone else’s leftovers?
Ye Hancheng looked up at Qin Yumian, puzzled. “Mind what?”
Meeting his pure gaze, Qin Yumian hesitated, then shook her head. “Nothing.”
After finishing the milk, her hiccups finally subsided.
The class bell rang, and the teacher walked into the classroom.
“What’s that smell? It smells like food. Have you all been eating in the classroom?”
“No, teacher, we haven’t.” Wu Yu raised his hand in response and then shifted the blame. “Maybe it’s coming from the next classroom?”
The teacher sneered. “I just came from the next classroom.”
“Open all the windows. The smell of beef noodles is overpowering.” Placing the lesson plan on the podium, the teacher added, “Get your act together. After two days off, are your bones all soft now? You all look listless. Take out your exam papers. We’ll start by reviewing them this lesson…”
In the sweltering heat of the afternoon, drowsiness set in. By the end of the afternoon classes, the classroom was filled with students slumped in their seats.
Though the teacher was frustrated with their lack of discipline, there was little he could do about it. He certainly couldn’t have half the class stand outside as punishment, right?
“Big brothers, big sisters, you’re all in your senior year now, and there’s less than a year left before the college entrance exams. If you keep going like this, it’s likely that few of you will make it to university. I just came from the next classroom, and there were only a few students napping at their desks. The rest were either reviewing questions or reading. Then look at your class…” The teacher sighed lightly, noticing that few students were paying attention. He decided not to ramble further and continued with the lesson.
When the bell rang, signaling the end of the class, the previously subdued classroom instantly came to life.
Hao Jiajia and a female classmate planned to go to the bathroom. As they passed by Class 3’s room, they peeked through the glass window and saw, just as the teacher had described, that most students were deeply engrossed in their studies. Compared to their own class, the atmosphere in the other classroom was exceptionally quiet.
