DLSRWAR Chapter 4 Wife, here I come!!
“Big Sister Mian, Big Brother Xian is fighting with those guys from Yongshui Street again.”
Qin Yumian was in the middle of helping Grandma Wu hang some dried mustard greens when a little boy ran in, breathless and anxious.
Grandma Wu, carrying a bowl of hot water sweetened with sugar and osmanthus, came out of the house. Her weathered face showed a hint of worry as she heard Little Shitou’s words. “Why are they fighting with the Yongshui Street gang again?”
Qin Yumian turned on the faucet to wash her hands, casually shaking off the water droplets. Her almond-shaped eyes curved into a gentle smile as she said, “Grandma Wu, the mustard greens are all laid out.”
“Good, good. You must be tired. Have a bowl of osmanthus syrup,” Grandma Wu offered, handing over the white porcelain bowl. She then fished out a crumpled wad of cash from her pocket, counting out fifty yuan. “Here, just a little something from me.”
Qin Yumian put her hands behind her back. “I don’t need it. I’m not short on money. Next time you make mustard greens with pork, just save a bit for my family. My Grandpa loves it.”
“I’ve got something to take care of, so I’ll be going now.” Qin Yumian signaled to Little Shitou with a glance and turned to leave, ignoring Grandma Wu’s attempts to make her stay.
Once outside Grandma Wu’s small courtyard, Qin Yumian’s expression turned serious. She asked Little Shitou, “Where are they?”
Little Shitou, with his short legs, hurried to keep up with her. He replied between breaths, “At the dirty little alley at the end of the street.”
Qin Yumian nodded slightly and looked down at Little Shitou. “You should head home now. Don’t want Aunt Wang coming out to look for you.”
Little Shitou, knowing he was too young to help, nodded obediently. “Okay.”
The end of Xinghua Street was practically connected to the start of Yongshui Street. By the time Qin Yumian arrived at the alley, the fight had already ended.
She happened to arrive just as the group from Yongshui Street was helping each other out of the alley.
The leader, a teenage boy with a shaved head, looked up and saw the girl approaching. His muscles tensed instinctively.
Even though the girl had an exceptionally delicate face, her features looked like they had been crafted by a world-class sculptor. Beneath her soft, dark lashes were clear almond-shaped eyes, her nose was dainty, and her skin was fair with lips as red as cherries. She appeared so gentle, without the slightest hint of menace.
Yet, the boy with the shaved head couldn’t help but feel a dull ache in his face.
The memory of being beaten by this girl and ending up in the hospital for four or five days was still fresh in his mind.
Qin Yumian, however, only gave him a fleeting glance, her demeanor calm and indifferent, as she walked past the group of rough-looking teenage boys.
They exchanged puzzled glances, unsure of what to make of the situation.
Wasn’t she supposed to be here to back up Qin Xian?
Just then, a loud, frantic voice of a teenage boy came from behind.
“What the hell! Why are you here? Who the hell ratted me out?”
“Damn it! I didn’t lose, I won the fight! Why are you hitting me? What are you standing around for? Stop her—”
Moments later, the boys from Yongshui Street saw a blond-haired boy sprinting out of the alley like his life depended on it. When he noticed they hadn’t left yet, he flipped them off with a cocky grin, mouthing the word “losers”.
A warrior can be killed, but not humiliated.
These were all hot-blooded teenage boys, and as soon as they were insulted, they rolled up their sleeves, ready to fight him.
But then, the next moment, a girl in a white shirt and jeans calmly walked out of the alley, holding a rusty steel pipe in her hand.
The boys from Yongshui Street: “…”
“Uh, I think my mom just called me for dinner.”
“My dad needs help moving some stuff. If I’m late, he’ll definitely lose it.”
“Yeah, let’s go. We’re all brothers here. We’ll help you move.”
Not daring to stay any longer, the group quickly scattered, fleeing like a flock of startled birds.
…
When Qin Yumian returned home, Qin Xian was busy trying to curry favor with Grandpa Qin, massaging his shoulders and back, hoping to get him to intercede on his behalf.
But as the much shorter girl grabbed him by the collar and dragged him into the room, Grandpa Qin kept his head down, searching for his reading glasses.
Qin Xian: “…”
Aren’t you already wearing your reading glasses?!
The teenage boy flailed and shouted loudly under Qin Yumian’s grip, “Grandpa, you’re playing favorites!”
It was bad enough that she was taught martial arts and not him, but now he was about to get beaten, and Grandpa wasn’t even stepping in to stop it.
Was he really their biological child?
As soon as the door closed, Qin Yumian let go of him. Qin Xian quickly backed away, crossing his arms over his chest and eyeing the girl in front of him with wariness, like a virtuous man who had just been teased.
“Don’t come any closer, I—”
Qin Yumian shot him a sideways glance, her expression clearly one of disdain, as if she were looking at an idiot.
She tossed the ointment she had bought on the way to the boy. “Apply the medicine and then go cook dinner.”
…
In Sangcheng, at a certain five-star hotel.
After a long day of traveling, Qiu Gaotiao was exhausted and fell asleep as soon as he hit the bed.
Sangcheng belonged to City H, located in the Jiangnan region. It wasn’t particularly far from the capital, but it wasn’t close either.
After flying to City H, Ye Hancheng and Qiu Gaotiao had been driven to Sangcheng, courtesy of the manager at one of Ye Group’s branch offices.
The assistant tasked with escorting the two young masters respectfully said, “Second Young Master, I’m staying in the room next door. If you need anything, just let me know.”
Ye Hancheng, fresh from a shower and wearing a loosely tied bathrobe, nodded at the assistant. “Go get some rest. There’s more work for you tomorrow.”
“Understood.”
After the assistant left, Ye Hancheng sent a message to his older brother——
[Big brother, are you sure Mianmian is in Sangcheng?]
Ye Zhizhou: [Mm.]
[Sangcheng is huge. Where am I supposed to start looking? Couldn’t that detective agency you hired give me a specific address?]
Ye Zhizhou: […]
[Big brother, add more money to the deal and have them pinpoint exactly where Mianmian is in Sangcheng.]
Ye Zhizhou: “…”
Ye Zhizhou blocked his troublesome little brother.
Seeing that his messages had been rejected, Ye Hancheng: “…”
Ye Hancheng stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing out at the quiet night in Sangcheng, and suddenly found his breathing a bit labored.
Wife, I’m here!
The next day.
The assistant drove Ye Hancheng and Qiu Gaotiao around Sangcheng for what felt like an eternity.
Qiu Gaotiao’s legs had gone numb from sitting in the car for so long. He asked the young man next to him, listlessly, “Chengzi, what exactly are you trying to do?”
They had been driving around for half the day.
Ye Hancheng, without taking his eyes off the view outside the window, replied, “Looking for someone.”
Leaning back against his seat, Qiu Gaotiao asked lazily, “Who? A friend of yours?”
Ye Hancheng simply said, “No.”
He silently added in his heart: My wife.
“I can’t take it anymore. I’m starving.” Qiu Gaotiao ordered the driver, “Assistant Zhang, find a place up ahead where we can stop and eat.”
As luck would have it, the car was passing near Xinghua Street.
Since there were no “No Parking” signs in this small town, Assistant Zhang pulled over at the nearest spot on the side of the road.
Qiu Gaotiao, having long since lost his patience, couldn’t wait to get out and opened the door eagerly.
After sitting still for a few more seconds, Ye Hancheng also got out of the car. As soon as his feet touched the ground, he noticed a teenage boy running frantically in his direction.
Chasing after the boy was a girl holding a stick as thick as an adult man’s arm.
The moment Ye Hancheng saw the girl, he froze in place, stunned. When he came back to his senses, a look of joy spread across his face as he called out, “Wife!”
