DLSRWAR Chapter 66 I want to be closer to you.
Wu Yu eventually gathered up the homework and delivered it to the office.
Old Lu noticed the severe reduction in the homework submitted and realized that very few people had completed their assignments seriously over the break.
As class began, Old Lu stood at the podium and spoke earnestly, “Students who haven’t submitted their holiday homework don’t need to turn it in anymore. But listen up, you’re already in your senior year. Don’t think that 300 days is a long time. When you get into the intensive review sessions, you’ll find that time flies by quickly. It will be almost like blinking, and the college entrance exam will be upon you.”
“I’m not expecting each of you to get into Tsinghua-Peking University or Fudan University, but surely you can aim for an undergraduate degree, right? But look at your grades…” Old Lu took a sip of water and continued, “Even if the undergraduate cutoff were lowered by 100 points, only a few of you would make it. Qin Yumian should have told you that we’ve got a new homeroom teacher. She was recruited from No. 1 High School by the principal, and she’s from the advanced class there…”
Yang Mao raised his hand and asked, “Old Lu, why would a teacher from the advanced class at No. 1 High School come to our school and teach our class?”
Old Lu replied, “Consider yourselves lucky. Teacher Jiang is a former student of the principal. No. 1 High School reformed their advanced class, splitting it into special and advanced classes. Teacher Jiang was assigned to the special class, which consists of students deemed capable of entering top universities. The pressure on both students and teachers is immense in that environment, and Teacher Jiang’s health hasn’t been great these past few years. That’s why when the principal invited her to our school, she agreed.”
“Alright, let’s get to class,” Old Lu glanced at the time and muttered, “I feel like I haven’t said much to you, and yet half of the class time has passed.”
“…”
After class, Qin Yumian went to the academic affairs office to print out a list of the students in her class.
Director Gao asked, “Qin Yumian, is Teacher Jiang the one teaching your class?”
Qin Yumian glanced down as she pressed a few buttons on the printer and responded, “You’re the academic affairs director. How could you not know?”
Director Gao said, “Stop joking around. Let me tell you, having Teacher Jiang is a big stroke of luck for your class. So, you’d better tell those mischief-makers in your class to behave. If Teacher Jiang gets upset and leaves, your class will be dispersed into other classes.”
Hearing this, Qin Yumian looked up at Director Gao and asked, “We’re already in our senior year. Is it really possible to reassign classes?”
“Why not?” Director Gao leaned back in his chair and took a slow sip of goji tea from his thermos. “Given your class’ situation, the school thinks that achieving a thirty percent undergraduate rate is already a significant accomplishment. Even if your class is dispersed into others, it won’t make much of a difference.”
After printing the list, Qin Yumian left the academic affairs office and saw Ye Hancheng standing outside with two cups of milk tea.
“What are you doing standing here?”
Hearing her voice, Ye Hancheng turned around, smiling as he raised the milk tea he was holding. “Wu Yu sneaked out to buy these. Want one?”
Qin Yumian nodded and took the milk tea.
On the way back to the classroom, Qin Yumian suddenly asked, “Do you really want to go to Tsinghua-Peking University?”
Ye Hancheng found the milk tea too sweet and had only taken a couple of sips.
When he heard Qin Yumian’s question, he was momentarily taken aback, then hesitantly responded, “Should I want to or not?”
Qin Yumian: “…”
Qin Yumian sighed, “You should ask yourself that.”
Ye Hancheng looked at the pearls in the milk tea and said softly, “I want to be closer to you.”
If Qin Yumian aimed for Tsinghua-Peking University, he would go there too. But if, due to his rebirth, the future changed and Qin Yumian went to Nanjing University, then he would naturally go there as well.
So, it wasn’t about which university he wanted to attend but rather where Qin Yumian went.
But it wasn’t as simple as picking a university like choosing vegetables at a market; without good grades, he wouldn’t be going to any university.
Ye Hancheng suddenly fell into deep thought. Did he really need to study hard and burn the midnight oil?
…
The third class was English.
Everyone was quite curious about the new homeroom teacher.
When the bell rang, a middle-aged woman wearing glasses walked in with a teaching plan.
“Good morning, everyone. I’m your new English teacher and homeroom teacher. My surname is Jiang, and my name is Jiang Yue…” Teacher Jiang turned around and wrote her name on the blackboard. “You can call me Teacher Jiang or Old Jiang. Old Teach is fine too.”
After introducing herself, Jiang Yue asked to get to know everyone, so she had the students stand up and introduce themselves.
Since Teacher Jiang was always smiling, everyone who was initially worried about the new homeroom teacher being a tigress found her quite amiable and relaxed.
In the first class with her, Teacher Jiang didn’t actually teach but sat on the podium and shared her teaching experiences from the advanced class at No. 1 High School.
If it had been a normal class, many students would have fallen asleep by now, but when the teacher talked about non-academic topics, the students were quite alert.
After chatting for a whole class, the students were more accepting of the new homeroom teacher.
Yang Mao ran over to speak with Hao Jiajia, “I didn’t expect the new homeroom teacher to be so humorous.”
Hao Jiajia nodded, taking out her newly bought nail polish and asking Yang Mao to help her check the color.
Yang Mao immediately refused, “Nail polish is something for girls. I’m not putting that on.”
Hao Jiajia snorted.
She then asked Qin Yumian to help her try it.
Qin Yumian placed her left hand on the table, allowing Hao Jiajia to fuss over it while using her other hand to work on some problems.
Seeing this, Yang Mao couldn’t help but be surprised, “Qin Yumian, you’re actually doing problems?!”
He even tilted his head to look out the window, but there was no red rain.
Qin Yumian looked at the questions on her paper and replied without looking up, “Is it strange?”
Yang Mao asked, “Isn’t it strange? Qin Yumian, you usually read comic books.”
“Today I went to the academic affairs office to print a list, and Director Gao said some things to me,” Qin Yumian lightly said.
Yang Mao asked curiously, “What did Old Ba say to you that made you so motivated?”
Qin Yumian didn’t answer his question but instead asked, “Have you ever thought about going to college?”
Hearing this, Hao Jiajia paused mid-application of nail polish.
Yang Mao was also stumped by the question.
Hao Jiajia resumed applying nail polish to Qin Yumian’s fingers. “Before going to the capital, I honestly didn’t care much about whether I’d get into college.”
Yang Mao interrupted, “Wait, what? You went to the capital?”
Hao Jiajia gave him a sidelong glance. “I went to the capital with Class Monitor Qin not long ago, and I even got to see my idol’s concert.”
Yang Mao exclaimed, “What the heck, you went to the capital with Class Monitor Qin and didn’t even invite me? That’s just heartless.”
