DLSRWAR Chapter 69 Caught secretly holding hands.
Yang Mao waved his flashlight while muttering, “Monsters and ghosts, go away…”
Ye Hancheng looked at him in disbelief, “What are you doing?”
Yang Mao was nearly at his breaking point, “Brother Han, why did you tap me on the shoulder? You could really scare someone to death, you know?”
Ye Hancheng mocked him, “Aren’t you the one who believes in science?”
Yang Mao: “…”
Sometimes he wasn’t so sure.
Yang Mao’s gaze dropped, and he accidentally caught sight of Qin Yumian and Ye Hancheng holding hands.
He exclaimed, “What the heck! You two were secretly holding hands behind our backs.”
With Yang Mao’s words, everyone’s attention shifted to the clasped hands of Qin Yumian and Ye Hancheng.
Qin Yumian: “…”
Qin Yumian quietly withdrew her hand.
Ye Hancheng: “…”
Ye Hancheng was almost pissed off with Yang Mao. He had only just managed to hold his wife’s hand and still wanted more!
Yang Mao shrank his neck, suddenly feeling the atmosphere around them turn hostile.
Hao Jiajia asked nervously, “What do we do now? Should we go in?”
Qin Yumian reached the door of the music classroom, turned the handle, and found it locked. Inside was pitch black, and it didn’t look like anyone was there.
“The door is locked,” Ye Hancheng said.
Could it really be ghosts causing trouble?
Yang Mao was feeling a bit scared himself, “Maybe we should go back.”
Even though he was a staunch materialist, he still had some superstitious fears in the face of the unknown…
Qin Yumian suddenly spoke up, “Do you hear any sounds?”
Yang Mao replied, “Yeah, the piano sound. It’s really eerie.”
Qin Yumian said, “…Listen more carefully.”
Yang Mao looked horrified, “Are you saying you hear a ghost… no, that thing?”
Qin Yumian gave him a faint glance, “I hear the sound of you getting beaten.”
Yang Mao: “…”
Everyone focused intently for a moment and realized that there was indeed another sound mixed in with the piano noise.
Ye Hancheng speculated, “It sounds like a cat meowing.”
Qin Yumian nodded, walked to the window, and asked Yang Mao to pass her the flashlight.
Yang Mao handed over the flashlight obediently. Qin Yumian shone the light through the glass into the music classroom.
A small object cast a long shadow under the light.
It seemed startled, and the cat, which had been causing a ruckus on the piano, suddenly jumped down.
Thus, the terrifying piano sound in the music classroom was finally explained.
The culprit was the cat that had entered through the window.
“That scared me so much. I thought there was really a ghost,” Yang Mao said, patting his chest as they came down from the Media Building.
“I’m a bit hungry after all that exercise,” Big Fatty grumbled, rubbing his round belly.
Wu Yu complained, “What exercise did you even do today? You just walked up three flights of stairs.”
Big Fatty retorted, “Isn’t walking considered exercise?”
Ye Hancheng casually said, “Alright, everyone got a scare today. I’ll treat you all to a late-night snack to calm your nerves.”
Big Fatty cheered, “Brother Han, you’re truly my benefactor!”
Wu Yu scoffed, “Look at you, so pathetic.”
Hao Jiajia pinched the flesh on her face, “Eating a late-night snack isn’t very friendly for us girls!”
Yang Mao asked, “So are you going or not?”
Hao Jiajia replied, “Going!”
Qin Yumian had no choice but to go along as well.
The school’s curfew was at eleven.
They had been messing around in the music classroom for most of the evening, and by now it was already ten past eleven. The school gates had long been closed.
After the night watchman had confiscated the key Wu Yu had secretly made last time, they hadn’t been able to get it back.
So, the only option was to take another route—climbing the wall.
Hao Jiajia was climbing the wall for the first time and wasn’t very skilled at it, so Yang Mao and Wu Yu had to help—one supporting her from below and the other pulling her from the top.
After successfully getting Hao Jiajia over the wall, Qin Yumian and the others managed to climb over with ease.
Except for Big Fatty.
While everyone else climbed the wall with little trouble, Big Fatty panted as if he had run 800 meters.
Leaning against the wall, Big Fatty gasped, “I’m exhausted. I need to have a barbecue to recover.”
Wu Yu grinned wryly, “Just say you want barbecue.”
At this hour, the only places open near the school were barbecue stalls and some snack stands.
Big Fatty had long been familiar with the local food options and led Qin Yumian and the others to a barbecue stall he knew well.
The tables and chairs were set up outside. Before Qin Yumian sat down, Ye Hancheng said, “Class Monitor Qin, wait a moment.”
Qin Yumian: “?”
Ye Hancheng wiped the chair with a tissue and said, “It’s good now.”
Qin Yumian: “…”
Qin Yumian smiled helplessly, took a tissue, and wiped Ye Hancheng’s chair, saying, “Please sit, Second Young Master Ye.”
Ye Hancheng cleared his throat and said, “Alright.”
The others: “…”
Hey, did you guys know you’re coming off like you’re showing off your affection?
Big Fatty ordered all meat dishes, while Hao Jiajia, muttering “How sinful,” ordered a few vegetarian dishes.
Wu Yu asked, “Do you guys drink?”
Yang Mao replied, “Let’s stick to sodas.”
They had to go back to school later, and if they drank too much, how would they get over the wall?
The barbecue stall was quite busy. Big Fatty didn’t need the owner to serve them; he eagerly went over to fetch the cooked barbecue himself.
Ye Hancheng frowned at the greasy and spicy barbecue on the plate.
Sometimes, Second Young Master Ye had a bit of a cleanliness obsession.
Big Fatty called out to everyone, “Hurry up and eat. The pig skin is best right after it’s grilled.”
Qin Yumian didn’t like to eat greasy food at night, so she only had a few skewers of the vegetarian options.
Noticing that Ye Hancheng hadn’t touched any of the food, Qin Yumian checked his expression and said, “You all eat first. I’ll go get something.”
Ye Hancheng instinctively said, “What are you buying? I’ll go with you.”
Qin Yumian nodded, “Alright.”
Ye Hancheng didn’t expect his wife to agree so quickly and was momentarily stunned before quickly following her.
Leaving the barbecue stall, the strong smell of grilling gradually faded away.
Ye Hancheng asked, “Class Monitor Qin, what do you want to buy?”
Qin Yumian replied, “Oden.”
After buying two portions of oden, Qin Yumian handed one to Ye Hancheng.
This was Ye Hancheng’s first time trying such street food.
He took a bite and found that it actually tasted quite good—at least better than the greasy barbecue.
Ye Hancheng suddenly realized, “Class Monitor Qin, did you deliberately bring me here to eat this?”
Qin Yumian responded nonchalantly, “Aren’t you the one who doesn’t like barbecue?”
“So you’ve been paying attention to me all along?” Ye Hancheng’s voice carried an unmistakable hint of surprise.
Qin Yumian was speechless, “Is this hard to tell?”
Ye Hancheng was so pleased to realize his wife had been keeping an eye on his preferences that he automatically ignored the rest of Qin Yumian’s comment.
“Class Monitor Qin, let me treat you to some candied hawthorns,” he said, and before Qin Yumian could respond, he dashed off to buy two skewers of the sweet treat.
