On a sweltering summer night, the clock’s hands quietly pointed to one in the morning.
The streets were nearly deserted, save for a few groups of young people staggering along, holding each other up.
Some returned home with their brothers, while others led newly acquainted pretty girls in search of a hotel.
By the roadside stood Lu Qing, clad in a yellow delivery uniform, keeping watch over his little electric scooter.
He tapped his finger against his phone, lighting up the screen, and thought to himself, “Just one last order, then I’ll head back to sleep. The day after tomorrow, classes start at the university.”
Lu Qing was every bit the model young man. He had grown up in an orphanage, supported by the kindness of others, and through his own relentless effort, managed to get admitted into a second-tier university.
Every weekend, he worked part-time delivering takeout, earning a bit of pocket money.
For twenty-two years, his life had been plain as water—no stroke of fortune that made him rich overnight, no fantastical encounter of awakening some hidden system.
Still, he was born with a handsome face. At one meter eighty tall, he stood out in a crowd.
But due to years of poor nutrition in childhood, his frame was lean, his skin faintly pale, carrying an air of fragile thinness.
“Ding! You have a new order!” The pleasant chime rang out from his worn-out phone.
“An order?” Lu Qing’s slender fingers quickly tapped open the screen, and a new request appeared before his eyes.
The interface showed that the restaurant wasn’t far, though the delivery address was a bit of a distance away.
“Six kilometers? Perfect. This can be today’s last order.” Lu Qing immediately opened the navigation and prepared to head over to the restaurant.
Counting the commission, this order would earn him about ten yuan—definitely a decent one.
After picking up the food, Lu Qing carefully looked over the delivery address: “Haima Manor, No. 168… Su Lingwei?”
At once, the name stirred a memory. Su Lingwei was widely recognized as the campus beauty at his university, and technically, his senior.
She was cold as frost, her looks unmatched—an untouchable goddess who had long been the object of countless male students’ pursuit.
Yet she always kept to herself, like an iceberg that had stood unmelted for ten thousand years. It was also rumored that despite failing at least three subjects every year, she still managed to remain enrolled. Without powerful backing, she would’ve been expelled long ago.
Most importantly, she carried an air of mystery—no one could ever figure out who she really was or where she came from.
He hadn’t expected his last order of the night to be delivered to the campus beauty’s home. Haima Manor?
That was a well-known wealthy district—back when the villas were first sold, anyone with assets under a hundred million couldn’t even step through the gates.
“But none of that has anything to do with me. I’m just an ordinary guy.” Lu Qing mounted his little electric scooter and followed the navigation toward the delivery address.
“Spicy crayfish and skewers… and all in large portions! Eating such greasy food so late—doesn’t the campus beauty worry about breaking out?” Lu Qing mused idly as he rode along.
When he arrived at the entrance of Haima Manor, sure enough, he was stopped by the security guard, who needed to confirm with the resident.
“Hello, is this the resident of No. 168? Your delivery has arrived. Shall I let him through?” the guard asked respectfully.
A cool, distant voice came through the phone: “Mm. Let him in. And… hurry.”
With the owner’s approval, the guard waved him through. Lu Qing parked his scooter outside and walked into the estate on foot.
Maybe it was just his imagination, but from that voice over the phone, he thought he detected something unusual—weakness, tinged with urgency.
“She’s probably starving. Young people these days never eat on time. They let themselves go hungry, then binge all at once. Really unhealthy,” Lu Qing thought to himself.
Before long, he spotted the villa marked No. 168.
It was a three-story building with a delicate little courtyard in front. A swing swayed gently in the breeze, but aside from that, there was nothing—no flowers, no greenery. Amidst the lush estate, this place stood out for its eerie quiet.
Lu Qing pressed the doorbell, but before he could say a word, the courtyard gate swung open on its own.
He walked up to the main entrance, and with a sharp click, the door cracked open a sliver.
From the wall speaker came that same cold, familiar voice: “Come straight in. Second floor, first room on the right. And… hurry!” This time, Lu Qing could clearly hear the urgency in her tone, which made him hesitate.
“Miss Su, I’m just here to deliver food. This is legitimate business—bringing it upstairs doesn’t seem very proper…”
After all, there were plenty of stories online about delivery guys being dragged into strange situations with wealthy women. He still had to consider his own safety.
“Bring it upstairs. I’ll… I’ll tip you a hundred.” The campus beauty’s suppressed voice came through the intercom.
“Deal!” Without another word, Lu Qing grabbed the food box and dashed inside, jogging up to the second floor.
“First room on the right? Yeah, this should be it.” He raised his hand, about to knock.
Click! The door suddenly swung open by itself, and a dark figure lunged out from the pitch-black room. The force knocked him flat to the ground.
A sharp pain shot through his neck, as though the person pressing against him had bitten down hard.
Looking down, he found himself face-to-face with an extraordinarily beautiful visage—and a pair of glowing red eyes.
Lu Qing dared not move, for he suddenly realized that the person in his arms wasn’t wearing any clothes…
“Is this some kind of roleplay gone wrong? And why the vampire act with the biting?” The thought barely formed in his mind before everything went dark, and he lost consciousness.
