Chapter 19: A Handsome Man Falls from the Sky
Yunzhi was all smiles, her eyes and face clean and clear, devoid of tears or any trace of sadness.
“Miss, is this it? We’re really cut off from the Yun Manor?” Rulan asked, still in disbelief.
It was too easy, wasn’t it?
“What do you think?” Yunzhi asked with a smile. It was both easy and difficult. Neither Xu nor Yun Feng could have anticipated the drastic change in her personality. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have publicly barred her from the manor, but would have brought her back first and then devised a plan to deal with her.
Of course, their plan would most likely have been to let her die. That way, all the gossip would disappear with her death, and it wouldn’t affect the marriage prospects of the other Yun daughters.
By now, Xu and Yun Feng must be kicking themselves.
Yunzhi’s guess was spot on. After she left, Xu regretted her actions. If she had known Yunzhi would become like this, she wouldn’t have said those things for anything.
Yun Feng felt the same way.
While he didn’t covet Yunzhi’s dowry, this incident had completely ruined his image as a brother. From now on, people would point fingers and gossip whenever he went out.
Xu returned to the manor with a grim face, went straight to bed, and lay there. This time, she was truly ill with anger.
Seeing Xu so upset, Yun Feng and Lin Meijiao didn’t know what to say. They stayed with her for a while until the doctor arrived and examined her, then left.
Back in their own courtyard, Lin Meijiao asked in confusion, “Husband, I feel like Big Sister has become a completely different person.”
“Who says she hasn’t? It must be from anger.”
Yun Feng couldn’t think of any other reason for Yunzhi’s drastic personality change. The current Yunzhi was a complete contrast to the one he knew before.
The old Yunzhi was a typical well-bred lady, doing whatever her parents told her. Now, she was defiant, rebellious, and even had a touch of bad temper.
What was wrong with asking her to become a nun? Why did she have to divorce An Xiuyuan without consulting the family? Since she didn’t care about her family, they couldn’t blame them for being ruthless.
Yunzhi had no idea that Xu was genuinely ill. She returned to the separate courtyard. Ru Zhu and Ru Ju had done a good job, already having people tidy up the courtyard. Yunzhi arrived with her entourage just in time to move in.
Living in her own courtyard, Yunzhi felt completely relaxed. Here, she was the boss, free to do whatever she wanted, without having to worry about anyone else’s opinions.
“Miss, are you tired? Do you want to rest for a while? I’ll go to the kitchen and have them prepare some of your favorite dishes.”
“Go ahead, I’ll lie down for a bit.” Yunzhi dismissed Rumei and had someone bring her rocking chair out to the corridor.
Seeing her mistress close her eyes, Rulan took the blanket nearby and covered her.
Yunzhi felt it but didn’t open her eyes.
Rulan and the other servants quietly retreated, leaving this space to their mistress.
Once the room fell silent, Yunzhi slowly drifted off to sleep. But as she was half-awake, there was a sudden bang, and something fell from the sky, landing right in front of her.
Yunzhi was startled awake and looked down, only to find a handsome man lying at her feet.
In her two lifetimes, Yunzhi had seen her fair share of men, but none had been as handsome as the one before her.
