Chapter 22: A Life Not Meant to End
Looking at the medicine box she hadn’t used in over half a year, a complex emotion washed over Yunzhi’s face.
Ever since she learned that her parents had arranged a marriage for her to a marquis’s family, she began to hide her talents, to disguise herself, to transform into someone completely different from her true self.
Now, having left the marquis’s mansion and severed ties with the Yun family, she could finally be herself again, the carefree and unrestrained person she truly was.
Opening the medicine box, Yunzhi took out the antidote pills she had made. Her antidote pills were not only capable of curing all poisons, but their efficacy was also far superior to anything available outside.
Once, a single one of her antidote pills sold for a staggering price of one hundred thousand gold coins, but even then, it was a rare commodity, highly sought after.
Now, to save this man, she would have to use one of her hundred-thousand-gold-coin antidote pills. It felt like a bit of a loss, she thought.
However, seeing the man’s attire, Yunzhi felt it didn’t matter. He seemed to be either wealthy or noble, so surely a mere one hundred thousand gold coins wouldn’t be a problem for him?
With that thought, Yunzhi no longer hesitated and directly fed the pill into Dongli Lucang’s mouth.
When the pill’s effects began to take hold, she took out a set of golden needles and started to administer acupuncture. This would accelerate the pill’s efficacy and speed up the detoxification process.
While in a haze, Dongli Lucang felt someone feeding him something. Then, the pain in his body began to subside.
He finally felt reassured. He thought, “It seems the old geezer is reliable after all. Once I recover, I must go and thank him properly.”
Meanwhile, in a certain Taoist temple in the capital city, an old Taoist with a white beard and hair was meditating when he suddenly sneezed, nearly scaring the young Taoist boy attending to him to death.
It took a while for the young Taoist boy to regain his composure. Looking at the old Taoist, he asked, “Master, are you alright? Are you sick? I’ll go get you some medicine.”
“Go where? Come back here!” The old Taoist shouted, then stretched out his finger and pinched it, a smile spreading across his face.
“Sure enough, that kid’s life wasn’t meant to end.”
Back at the secluded courtyard, Yunzhi saw that the time was almost up and removed the golden needles. As the last needle was withdrawn, Dongli Lucang coughed up a large clump of dark, clotted blood.
The blood had a pungent, foul odor that made Yunzhi quite disgusted. She instructed Rulan, who was standing by, “Have someone dispose of this, then change his clothes.”
“Yes, Miss!”
After giving her instructions, Yunzhi went outside to write a prescription for Dongli Lucang. Ordinarily, his internal injuries could be treated with acupuncture, but he had just been detoxified, so it would be better to wait another two days, let him take medicine for two days first.
The room was soon cleaned up, and Dongli Lucang was dressed in fresh clothes.
Since the poison had been cleared, he soon regained consciousness. Rulan saw him wake up and immediately went out to call Yunzhi.
Seeing Yunzhi walk in from outside, Dongli Lucang was quite surprised. He never dreamed that Yunzhi was the legendary Ghost Doctor.
If he had known, he wouldn’t have had to endure months of suffering.
“I am Lucang. Thank you, Miss, for saving my life.” Dongli Lucang bowed to Yunzhi in gratitude.
Yunzhi gave him a faint glance and replied with two words, “Yunzhi!”
Then, she extended her hand to take his pulse. Confirming that the poison had been mostly cleared, she nodded in satisfaction and said, “Since you know I saved you, let’s settle the score.”
