Chapter 60: Absent-Minded
Yunzhu and Hu c walked side by side, constantly glancing at Yunzhi, their eyes filled with anticipation for a good show.
They knew all too well what kind of person the Princess Langhua was. Yunzhi dared to humiliate her in public, wasn’t that asking for trouble?
They waited, convinced that Yunzhi would soon face the consequences.
Yunzhi, of course, sensed their gazes and decided to tease them.
After all, she was bored.
She turned to them, a playful smile on her face, and asked, “Why are you two always staring at me? Is there something wrong with me?”
“No, nothing!” The two girls panicked at the sound of Yunzhi’s voice, shaking their heads frantically. To be honest, they were a little afraid of Yunzhi, afraid of her unpredictable nature.
What if, because of them, Yunzhi decided to leave or skip the flower viewing? That would be terrible.
Seeing their frightened demeanor, Yunzhi’s smile widened, a hint of disbelief in her eyes. “Really nothing? Then why are you staring at me?”
Yunzhu and Hu Ling’er were at a loss for words. Could they tell her they were waiting for her to be humiliated?
Of course not.
Finally, Yunzhu said, “Sister, we’re just worried about you. We’re afraid you’re too straightforward and might offend someone.”
“Someone else coming later?” Yunzhi feigned surprise. “If that’s the case, I should just go home.”
With that, she turned around, as if she were really going home. This terrified Yunzhu.
If Yunzhi left, the Princess Langhua would definitely not let her off easily. So, she had to bite the bullet and approach Yunzhi, saying, “Sister, I’m sorry, I spoke carelessly.”
“Spoke carelessly?” Yunzhi looked at her with suspicion. “You’re not a child anymore. Didn’t your mother teach you how to speak properly? How can you still make careless remarks?”
“Me?” Yunzhu was furious, wanting to tear Yunzhi’s face off, but she had to hold back. “It’s all my fault, please don’t hold it against me, sister.”
“Do you really know you’re wrong?”
“Yes!”
“Alright then, considering this is your first offense, I won’t hold it against you. Let’s go!”
Seeing that Yunzhi wasn’t leaving, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. However, after this incident, they dared not look at her again. Not even secretly, for fear that Yunzhi would find another excuse to make things difficult.
Of course, their inner thoughts were anything but calm. They would curse Yunzhi one moment, then say “Just wait, you’ll see” the next.
Soon, they reached the peony garden. As rumored, it was truly breathtaking. Seeing such beauty, Yunzhi’s mood improved.
She truly appreciated the scenery, unlike the others. While they pretended to admire the flowers, their attention was constantly drawn to Yunzhi. Of course, they thought they were being discreet, but Yunzhi saw everything.
The Princess Langhua was particularly anxious. It had been so long, Yunzhi should have reacted by now.
But she seemed completely unaffected, as if nothing had happened.
Could it be that the tea she had given her was not poisoned? But that couldn’t be right, she had specifically instructed the maidservant to add something to it.
Everyone else was anxious too, exchanging worried glances.
Yunzhi pretended to be oblivious, strolling through the sea of flowers, admiring the various forms of the peonies.
At that moment, the sound of footsteps approached. It was the young gentlemen.
