Chapter 80: The Culprit Behind the Scenes
The Duke and Duchess, upon hearing their second son’s words, also found them reasonable and therefore did not come over. Previously, they had encountered many charlatans, and their son’s illness had not only not improved but had worsened.
The Duchess, seeing her son’s attendant approaching, eagerly asked, “Xiao Liu, how is it? What did the divine doctor say?”
“The divine doctor requests that the Duke and Duchess come over.”
The Duchess and Duke exchanged glances, then immediately nodded, saying, “Alright, alright, alright, we’ll go right away.”
Walking towards their son’s courtyard, the Duchess couldn’t help but ask her husband, “My lord, do you think Zhiye’s illness can be cured?”
“Rest assured, my lady, it will definitely be cured. The divine doctor’s name is renowned throughout the martial arts world. It is said that he not only practices medicine but also poisons. Zhiye’s illness has persisted, and I suspect it is not a sickness but rather poisoning.”
“No way? How could Zhiye be poisoned?”
“I couldn’t figure it out either, so I didn’t say anything. However, let’s see what the divine doctor says later.”
“Alright, alright, let’s hurry up.”
The couple quickly arrived at their son’s courtyard and, upon seeing Yunzhi, immediately asked, “Divine doctor, how is my son’s illness?”
“Greetings, Duke, greetings, Duchess.” After paying her respects, Yunzhi replied, “To answer your question, your esteemed son is not ill but poisoned. He has been poisoned with a rare chronic poison.”
“My son is indeed poisoned?”
Hearing this, Yunzhi looked at Duke Qin with some surprise and asked, “Did the Duke know that your son was poisoned?”
“Not exactly, I was merely speculating.”
Yunzhi, hearing that it was a guess, didn’t ask further but looked at the two and said, “This poison has been administered for at least three years.”
“What, my son has been poisoned for so long?” The Duchess was shocked. Three years, that’s quite a long time.
“Yes!” Yunzhi nodded, explaining, “The poison was administered little by little, and it only started to manifest when it reached a certain amount, which is what you perceive as illness.”
Hearing this, the Duchess looked at her husband again and asked, “Divine doctor, do you know if my son’s poison has an antidote?”
“Of course, it does. However, I think you should thoroughly investigate your household first, otherwise, even if you resolve this poison, your esteemed son might be poisoned again.”
“From what the divine doctor means, the culprit is someone within my household?” Duke Qin was quite surprised. He had always thought that his son’s poison was administered by someone outside, but now that Yunzhi was asking his wife to investigate the household, it certainly wasn’t just a casual suggestion.
Sure enough, Yunzhi replied, “This poison must be administered every ten days. It can be done by adding it to your son’s food or tea. Therefore, it must be someone within the household, otherwise, an outsider wouldn’t be able to control the timing and dosage.”
“I see. Divine doctor, rest assured, I will thoroughly investigate my household. However, for now, please help my son with the antidote.”
“No problem.” Yunzhi nodded, then took out silver needles from her medicine box.
However, as she was about to give Qin Zhiye an acupuncture treatment, she noticed that Qin Zhiming had left without anyone noticing. She couldn’t help but mention, “Where did the second young master go?”
“He probably had some urgent matter.”
“Is that so? He’s quite urgent.” Yunzhi deliberately emphasized her words, hoping that the two in front of her would understand her implication.
However, the two seemed to not understand. Yunzhi didn’t say anything more.
