Ling Fengyang shuddered and looked up at Shen Ning, “You—”
“I am Shen Ning, the eldest legitimate daughter of the Duke of the State, and the current Regent’s Princess Consort.” Shen Ning’s tone was indifferent, “What else do you want to know?”
Ling Fengyang was forced to kneel on the ground, unable to rise, and said coldly, “I have something to say to the Eldest Princess.”
“Before speaking to the Eldest Princess, you should first explain to the Regent why you are wearing the clothes of a Nan Dynaasty general?” Shen Ning raised her hand, pointing to the patterns on his sleeves and collar, “Only a second-rank general of Nan Dynasty could afford this attire, and the difference between a first-rank and a second-rank general is only in the patterns. You are clearly from Nan Dynasty, so why are you pretending to be General Fengyang?”
As soon as these words were spoken, the guests watching from outside the wedding hall began to whisper among themselves: “This person is actually pretending to be General Fengyang?”
“No wonder the Eldest Princess didn’t pay any attention to him, she knew he was a fake.”
“Of course, General Fengyang died on the battlefield, witnessed by the Princess Pingyao herself. It was said to be a death by a thousand arrows, how could there be any chance of him being alive?”
“This person disguised himself as General Fengyang, deliberately choosing to cause trouble on the day of Princess Pingyao’s wedding. I wonder what his intentions are.”
“Perhaps he’s a spy from an enemy country, deliberately using General Fengyang’s identity to get close to the Princess Pingyao, aiming to steal State’s secrets…”
The voices of suspicion and accusations filled with hostility entered his ears, clearly treating him as a malicious spy.
Ling Fengyang’s expression changed abruptly, and he looked up at Ji Yucang, “I am Ling Fengyang. If the Regent does not believe me, you can take me to see the Emperor immediately. The Emperor will verify my identity.”
Huh?
“Your words imply that the Emperor knows you are wearing Nan Dynasty’s clothes?” Shen Ning’s tone was calm, “All of the people knows you have been dead for three years. If you are truly General Fengyang, why did you not return to Yong Kingdom for three years? Where have you been for the past three years? Have you betrayed your country and become a general of Nan Dynasty?”
“I won’t tell you anything.” Ling Fengyang struggled to get up, his tone cold, “I want to see the Emperor! Please take me to see the Emperor immediately.”
Ji Yucang’s expression was indifferent: “Lock him up in the Ministry of Justice’s prison. Leave him for the Eldest Princess to interrogate personally tomorrow.”
“Yes!”
The black-clad guards firmly restrained Ling Fengyang and dragged him away.
“I am Ling Fengyang, and I have my reasons!” Ling Fengyang roared, “Regent, you have no right to deal with me! I want to see the Emperor! I want to see the Emperor!”
“Your Emperor is already in danger himself, and you still want to see him?” Princess Pingyao came out and looked from afar at Ling Fengyang, who had come with such grandeur to obstruct the wedding but had instantly become a prisoner, “Tonight is my wedding night, I have no time to deal with irrelevant people. Tomorrow morning, I will go to the Ministry of Justice’s prison to catch up with you.”
With that said, she turned to look at the guests who had come out to watch the commotion: “Go back to your feast, don’t stand here watching the excitement. The dishes will get cold soon.”
The guests, hearing this, shuddered and dispersed.
However, not everyone was so sensible. People are diverse, and there are always a few stubborn spoilsports who ruin the atmosphere.
“Eldest Princess, this is not appropriate! A woman should be faithful to one man. Although we don’t know why General Fengyang has come back to life, it’s a good thing. Yong Kingdom can have one more capable general. Moreover, General Fengyang is so eager to see the Emperor, which shows that there must be hidden circumstances behind the initial incident. Perhaps the Emperor knows the truth. Why not give General Fengyang a chance?”
Princess Pingyao coldly waved her hand: “Throw this ill-omened person out!”
The speaker was an official in his thirties, with a not-so-high position, or perhaps no official position at all, likely a second-generation ancestor blessed by someone’s forebears.
In any case, Princess Pingyao had never seen him before and had no interest in knowing him. She coldly ordered him to be thrown out.
“From now on, this person is not allowed to appear before me.”
After dropping this sentence, she turned back to the bridal chamber, no longer willing to listen to the nonsense of a brainless person.
Ling Fengyang was eventually taken to prison under the identity of a spy from an enemy country and was heavily shackled.
Shen Ning stared at his back, inexplicably reminded of her own two years of imprisonment.
Before her marriage, she had never heard of this person. On the night of her wedding, she was schemed against and lost her freedom. She knew nothing about the outside world. Was it during that time that Ling Fengyang went to Nan Dynasty?
Why did he go to Nan Dynasty?
Was he saved by someone after being severely injured and near death, or was his death originally a conspiracy, and he deserted the battlefield to go to Nan Dynasty?
……
When Princess Pingyao returned to the bridal chamber, she found an unexpected person inside.
“Second Brother, you are a member of the Qin family. We have done many things to you that we shouldn’t have. I know we were wrong, and I apologize to you here. Can you save Eldest Brother? Please ask the Princess to save him. Eldest Brother is the only legitimate son of the Qin family. If he is executed, how will Mother live? Second Brother—”
Princess Pingyao leaned against the doorframe, watching Qin Zhilan’s tearful pleas to Qin Yumo as if it were a good show.
Qin Yumo, dressed in wedding attire, sat at the table, his tone indifferent: “The affairs of the Qin family have nothing to do with me. You should leave quickly. The Princess will be here soon.”
“Second Brother, are you really so heartless?” Qin Zhilan stared at him in disbelief, her eyes full of accusations, “You are also a descendant of the Qin family. What good will it do you if Eldest Brother is in trouble? Do you think that if something happens to Eldest Brother, you will become the sole heir of the Qin family? You’re dreaming! It’s impossible. Father has other children outside. You can’t compete with them. Second Brother, as long as you plead with the Princess, I will treat you as my real second brother in the future, and Eldest Brother will treat you as his real younger brother—”
“What benefits will he get from being your real second brother?” Princess Pingyao walked in, leisurely asking, “Could it possibly be better than what I can offer him?”
