Chapter 11
Following the original owner’s memories, Shen Youran took a tour of the house, storing some ingredients from the cabinets into her space. Then, she went to Liu Chunhua and Shen Daqiang’s room.
Liu Chunhua and Shen Daqiang were sleeping soundly, oblivious to anyone entering their room. With her space ring, a cheat tool that allowed her to take everything without searching, Shen Youran emptied their belongings.
Upon discovering that Liu Chunhua’s private money was hidden inside a smelly sock, Shen Youran truly didn’t want it.
However, adding up the little bits and pieces, it amounted to over three hundred yuan. Even with her disgust, Shen Youran still stored it in her space.
Besides that, there were also some trinkets Liu Chunhua had saved over the years. While not particularly valuable or expensive, losing them would undoubtedly feel like losing her life.
Shen Youran’s purpose in looting their money was not only to get some for herself but also to make this family feel the pain.
After all, they treated the original owner like an old cow!
Actually, from the original owner’s unwillingness to divorce and her desire for a stable job in the military compound, it was evident that she wasn’t stupid.
It was just that due to the problems of this era, the deeply ingrained belief in favoring sons over daughters, and the brainwashing Liu Chunhua had likely given her since childhood, that led to her tragic life.
However, now that she was here, she would change the situation!
After collecting the ingredients and money, Shen Youran walked towards a utility room, where various things were scattered.
Initially, she didn’t care about anything, but as she was about to leave, she saw some seeds in the corner. They were all bought by Liu Chunhua for planting vegetables, and each had a label with instructions.
Shen Youran chuckled and directly stored these seeds.
Having collected everything she needed, Shen Youran checked again, confirming there were no issues before returning to her room. She locked the door and entered her space.
She sowed all the looted seeds in the fields of her space, now just waiting for them to sprout into fresh vegetables.
Once the seeds were sown, the space automatically started planting and adjusting the temperature.
Shen Youran was very satisfied with this.
She then added all the plundered ingredients to the kitchen in her space to replenish her supplies. After that, Shen Youran yawned, gently patted herself, and went back to her room to sleep with her little milk balls.
Whether it was because of the milky scent of her little milk balls or because she had resolved all her worries, Shen Youran slept soundly that night.
The next day.
Liu Chunhua woke up to the sound of the rooster crowing. Every morning, Shen Daqiang had to go to work, so she had to make breakfast for him, and Shen Tianci also needed to eat, otherwise he would be hungry at noon.
She yawned as she walked into the courtyard, washed her face, and then entered the kitchen.
Yesterday, she saw Shen Youran making porridge, so she thought she would also make some porridge and fry two pancakes, which would be enough to eat.
Liu Chunhua opened the cabinet and reached in, but her hand touched nothing. She was startled and instantly woke up.
Could it be?
She widened her eyes, staring at the empty cabinet. Not even a single grain of rice was left, and the meat she bought yesterday, even if Shen Youran had taken some to cut, there should still be half left.
The cabinet was completely empty. She quickly went to other places to look for flour and noodles, but they were all gone. Even the potatoes she bought were gone.
“Oh my god!”
Liu Chunhua cried out in fright, slapping her thighs. She woke up Shen Daqiang and Shen Tianci, who came out of the house in their slippers, looking sleepy.
Shen Daqiang was unhappy, “What’s with all the noise? It’s so annoying early in the morning!”
“Our house was robbed! The rice, meat, flour, everything is gone. I was going to make breakfast just now, and I saw that everything was missing. It scared me. How could the thief…” Liu Chunhua paused and looked at Shen Tianci, “Son, were you hungry last night and stole all the food?”
Although she asked this question, Liu Chunhua felt it was wrong. After all, those were ingredients, not something you could eat raw. And she didn’t see any signs of cooking in the kitchen.
Shen Tianci shouldn’t have that kind of habit.
Sure enough, after hearing this, Shen Tianci jumped up, “Even if I was hungry, I wouldn’t eat raw potatoes and flour, would I?”
“And I could eat all that stuff?” Shen Tianci rolled his eyes, “Mom, can you think in other directions? Don’t always focus on me!”
“There are two other people in our house, right?” Shen Tianci’s eyes were strange. Liu Chunhua quickly walked towards Shen Youran’s room and knocked on the door loudly.
Shen Youran opened the door by herself, looking at Liu Chunhua’s anger and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“The food in the house is all gone. Did you steal it?” Liu Chunhua thought it was more and more likely. Shen Youran rolled her eyes, “Do you think I stole it? Would I still be here?”
“But…” Liu Chunhua’s eyes rolled around. She thought she was smart, but she couldn’t figure it out at this moment.
What Shen Youran said seemed to make sense.
If she really stole the food, wouldn’t she have left with that little drag along already? Why would she still stay here?
“It must be a thief! Mom, hurry up and see what’s missing!” Shen Youran casually made excuses, and Liu Chunhua finally realized.
“Yes!”
She rushed towards the house, found the sock where she hid her money under the bed, grabbed it, and found that the contents were gone. She turned the sock over and saw that there wasn’t a single penny left.
“AAAAAH!!!”
“Who the hell did this? Someone broke into our house and stole things!” Liu Chunhua sat on the floor, wailing.
Shen Daqiang and Shen Tianci rushed in. Liu Chunhua was already crying uncontrollably, gasping for breath, “Lao Shen, the money we saved to get our son married, it was all stolen by a damn thief!”
“How could this damn thief steal from our house?”
People in this era didn’t earn money easily, and they didn’t spend extravagantly. They saved their money because their son needed to get married. They kept all their money in one place.
They had saved over three hundred yuan. Now, with such a huge loss, who could bear it?
Shen Tianci heard that his marriage money was gone and ran around the house in a rage. Shen Youran listened to the commotion outside and slightly curled her lips.
She didn’t feel any guilt. She simply took back the money that the original owner had earned over the years.
She went into the space and woke up Junjun. Shen Youran had already boiled porridge in the kitchen of the space. They ate together before coming out.
Liu Chunhua sat on the floor and cried for a while, her brain spinning fast, “Lao Shen, call the police quickly, let them investigate!”
Shen Daqiang also knew that losing so much money was a big deal. He hurried to report the case and soon returned with the police.
Two policemen came to investigate, one holding a notebook and the other asking routine questions.
Liu Chunhua tidied herself up and sat on the sofa. The police looked at her, “What things were stolen from your house?”
“Food, necessities, some seeds from the warehouse, my three hundred yuan, and some small silver pendants I saved from a couple of years ago!” Liu Chunhua listed everything that was lost.
Before the police could ask, she began to cry, “The foundation of our family is gone, everything is lost, what are we going to do? Police comrades, you must help us find the thief!”
“Don’t worry, once we find any clues, we will follow them to find the thief and give you an answer.” The police officer followed the routine.
Then, they asked again, “It seems like the money is the most important thing. Where did you keep your money, and how many people know about it?”
“Only me and my husband know!” The money was hidden by both of them. They thought it would be safe to put it in a sock and hide it, because even if a thief broke in, they wouldn’t think to check the sock.
Who knew the thief would be so clever!
“So, according to you, the thief should have entered through the windows.” The police officer finished asking and stood up to walk around the house.
“There are no signs of forced entry, and no footprints of the thief outside. There isn’t even a single clue!”
“Police comrade, what do you mean?” Although Liu Chunhua and the others were not well-educated, they could understand human language.
The police officer looked at Liu Chunhua’s appearance and patiently explained, “Your windows have been open all the time, right?”
“Yes,” Liu Chunhua didn’t react much, even coming to the window. “The weather has been hot these days, the windows must be open for ventilation. Could the thief have entered from here?”
As she spoke, she widened her eyes, then patted the window and cursed, “I told you to close the windows at night, now look what happened! The thief stole our things, not only that, but also my money…”
Liu Chunhua became increasingly choked up. Shen Youran held Junjun and stood aside watching the show, occasionally frowning in agreement.
Junjun, on the other hand, looked on with wide eyes. He didn’t understand anything, but seeing his grandmother so anxious, he felt a little happy.
“Comrade.” The police officer was a little annoyed by Liu Chunhua’s constant talking, but still patiently persuaded, “I mean, we just checked, there are no footprints outside, and your lock wasn’t pried open, so this theft case may be difficult to solve.”
The police officer’s words were hesitant. Shen Youran listened from the side and wanted to laugh.
This policeman was probably also confused, because this kind of crime, they felt was rare.
Thieves usually leave some traces, either by picking the lock or climbing over the fence. The former must have signs of being pried open, and the latter should have footprints or dust.
But there was no trace in this house.
“You said that even the things you hid deep in your chest were stolen?” One of the police officers came out of the house, “You said you hid them under your clothes, but I don’t see any signs of your clothes being rummaged through.”
“Moreover,” the police officer continued, expressing his doubts, “to be able to move these things like this, and to carry away so much food, it should have been very noisy, didn’t you notice anything?”
According to Liu Chunhua’s description, they lost a lot of food, potatoes and other heavy items.
If the thief could take them away silently, without them noticing anything, that thief would be too clever!
Or perhaps this family slept too soundly?
