Chapter 15: A Brilliant Prescription!
Lu Xuemei smiled with relief and then said, “Wanwan called you Dad! You old man, you’re really muddle-headed.”
Fang Shaocheng’s eyes turned red as well. A man in his forties, he was so emotional that he almost cried.
He quickly turned his back and wiped at the corners of his eyes, then happily said,
“Good, good, good—whatever our Wanwan says goes. Let’s go eat!”
Fang Lanlan stared blankly at Fang Shaocheng with her small eyes. A flicker of jealousy crossed her face—this was the first time she had seen her father like this. This kind of gentleness and affection was something she had never received.
Only now did Fang Lanlan begin to realize that, in the eyes of Fang Shaocheng and Lu Xuemei, the “fake” daughter Ning Wanwan, who had been paralyzed, mattered more than she, the true biological daughter.
Those twenty years of raising her were, to the couple, just a matter of habit, almost instinctual. Ning Wanwan’s place in their hearts was untouchable—something Fang Lanlan, who had just returned, couldn’t shake.
She had no chance of winning against Ning Wanwan.
With this thought, Fang Lanlan bit her lip hard, her palm aching from her own digging nails. She lowered her head in disappointment and followed the others to the dining table.
If head-on confrontation wouldn’t work… then she’d try another approach.
When the food was served, Fang Lanlan stood up with a sincere expression and gave Ning Wanwan a deep bow.
Her action immediately drew everyone’s attention.
“Wanwan-jie, I’m sorry. I was too anxious earlier. I was worried your medical skills weren’t good enough and you’d mix the wrong herbs and harm yourself, so I acted rashly and poured out your medicine. It was my fault—I apologize.”
Ning Wanwan gave a faint smile and set down her chopsticks.
In the original host’s memories, Fang Lanlan was a total drama queen. After being recognized and brought home, she began deliberately ruining the original host’s reputation, which ultimately led to her being hated by everyone.
“Lanlan-meimei, you overthought. While my skills may be lacking, I still graduated from a proper medical university. How could I possibly mix medicine randomly?”
She then looked at Xu Cuihua beside her and said,
“Sister-in-law, the medicine dregs from earlier—are they still around? Please bring them over for Dad and Mom to examine.”
Xu Cuihua responded quickly and brought over the medicine pot. Fang Shaocheng pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses, opened the lid, and took a sniff.
Then he rolled up his sleeves and began inspecting the contents thoroughly.
Although Lu Xuemei wasn’t trained in surgery, she was well-versed in pharmacology, so she joined in the study of the medicine too.
A flicker of smugness flashed in Fang Lanlan’s eyes—she was just waiting for Ning Wanwan to embarrass herself.
Meanwhile, Ning Wanwan looked perfectly calm and serene, casually picking up a piece of fish with her chopsticks.
“Lanlan-meimei, sit down. There’s no need for us sisters to apologize over something so trivial. The way you’re acting, it’s like I bullied you.”
Fang Lanlan’s face stiffened. Still, she sat down, fuming.
He Yunshen raised a brow slightly. The tug-of-war between the two sisters was plain to see, but clearly Ning Wanwan had the upper hand.
Fang Shaocheng and Lu Xuemei, still examining the medicine dregs, whispered excitedly to each other.
Fang Shaocheng looked thrilled as he pointed to the dregs and asked,
“Wanwan, where did you get this formula? The combination is quite brilliant—this is the first time I’ve seen such an interesting pairing.”
Lu Xuemei chimed in excitedly,
“Yes, I’ve never seen such a clever prescription either. Wanwan, where did you find it? If your dad doesn’t get an answer today, he might not be able to sleep tonight!”
Fang Lanlan was dumbfounded. Her mouth dropped open in shock—this was not the result she expected.
Wasn’t Ning Wanwan supposed to be a poorly educated failure? How could she suddenly know how to make prescriptions—prescriptions so good that even Fang Shaocheng was praising them?
Ning Wanwan smiled shyly,
“This formula… I wrote it myself. I’ve been reading more medical texts lately, and then just…”
The couple looked at each other, their eyes full of excitement.
Was this… a successor? One who might even surpass them?
“Wanwan, Mom never imagined you’d be this talented. When we return to Jing City, we’ll send you some more advanced medical books. Study them well.”
Even He Yunshen looked visibly surprised. Though he had been impressed when he saw her performing acupuncture at the market, it didn’t compare to the shock he felt now.
He knew how prestigious Fang Shaocheng and Lu Xuemei were in the medical community. If even they were praising her formula…
His eyes grew more puzzled.
Fang Lanlan was so angry she nearly ground her molars to dust. She almost snapped her chopsticks in half from the force.
Why? Why did Ning Wanwan get all the good things?
And she, the real daughter, was treated like an insignificant grain of sand!
Just because she was raised in the countryside for twenty years and didn’t even finish high school, the Fang couple didn’t even let her get close to medicine?
With that, she slammed her chopsticks on the table.
“Dad, Mom, I’m full. Enjoy your meal—I’ll head back to the guesthouse.”
She stood up and left the courtyard.
Fang Shaocheng and Lu Xuemei were still fixated on the medicine. When they heard her voice, they only replied faintly.
Ning Wanwan’s eyes drifted subtly toward He Yunshen. The heroine just stormed off in a rage, shouldn’t you go after her?
But no matter how long she waited, He Yunshen remained calm, all his attention still on the food.
That bastard didn’t even seem remotely interested in going after Fang Lanlan—something Ning Wanwan hadn’t expected.
“Dad, Mom, you should eat. The food’s getting cold.”
Only then did Fang Shaocheng and Lu Xuemei reluctantly set the pot down and start eating, chatting casually with the couple as they did.
After the meal, He Yunshen escorted the Fang couple back to the guesthouse, then returned to his unit, filled with unanswered questions.
Ning Wanwan, meanwhile, leisurely stitched sachets in the yard with Xu Cuihua.
Her needlework wasn’t great, but Xu Cuihua was a natural. In just over an hour, she’d finished six exquisite sachets.
Ning Wanwan held them up, clearly pleased.
“Sister-in-law, your craftsmanship is amazing! These sachets are even better than the ones sold in stores—so neat and delicate.”
“You sweet-tongued girl. Don’t forget, I used to make a living off handcrafts.”
Xu Cuihua even added tassels using the colorful silk threads Ning Wanwan bought, sewing them onto the sachets.
That afternoon, Ning Wanwan changed into a light blue qipao. The sunlight shimmered on the fabric, making it appear rippling and radiant.
She pinned her long hair up with a hairpin. Paired with her soft, elegant features, she had the air of a classical beauty.
She hadn’t worn a Western dress today because Fang Lanlan had worn one, and it just rubbed her the wrong way.
The form-fitting qipao showed off her voluptuous curves—especially her full bust.
Xu Cuihua, glancing down at her own flat chest while working, couldn’t help but sigh heavily…
