Chapter 17: The Unexpected Kiss!
A flash of disbelief crossed Ning Wanwan’s eyes. She lifted her head, ready to give this scoundrel a piece of her mind.
Unexpectedly, He Yunshen lowered his head at the same moment—and their lips accidentally met.
Ning Wanwan froze for a second, her wide eyes staring round as saucers. That was her first kiss!
He Yunshen also stiffened. So this is what a girl’s lips feel like… Soft—so soft that he didn’t want to move an inch.
The two of them stared into each other’s eyes, their lips still lightly touching, until the audacious He Yunshen dared to press a soft peck against hers.
Snapping back to her senses, Ning Wanwan immediately raised her hand and slapped He Yunshen across the face.
Her eyes turned red with fury. “He Yunshen—you… you pervert!”
Clutching his cheek, He Yunshen looked flustered. “I… Ning Wanwan, I’m sorry. I didn’t do it on purpose—I swear!”
Just then, Fang Lanlan cheerfully walked into the room—only to freeze as if struck by lightning.
Fang Shaocheng and Lu Xuemei followed behind and were also caught in the awkward moment.
“Brother Yun… Yunshen…”
Inside the room, Ning Wanwan’s eyes were still misty with tears, while He Yunshen wore an awkward and slightly dazed expression.
It was a scene that could easily spark one’s imagination…
Fang Shaocheng and Lu Xuemei exchanged a glance.
Finally, it was Lu Xuemei who broke the silence. Smiling, she took Ning Wanwan’s hand.
“Ahem, Wanwan, let’s go out and eat. Your father and I made a reservation—at a restaurant with all your favorite dishes.”
Ning Wanwan finally composed herself and let Lu Xuemei push her wheelchair out of the room.
He Yunshen and Fang Shaocheng followed behind.
Only Fang Lanlan was left inside, her face turning green with rage. Watching He Yunshen’s tall, upright figure walk away, she nearly vomited blood from anger.
Ning Wanwan, that shameless vixen! She must have seduced Yunshen! Even while paralyzed, she still couldn’t behave herself—utterly disgraceful!
Such an outstanding man should’ve been her husband! Instead, he’d been stolen away by Ning Wanwan using despicable means. The most infuriating part was that even her parents agreed to it. Why?!
She was the true heiress of the Fang family, wasn’t she?!
Outside, Fang Shaocheng was too busy chatting with Ning Wanwan and Lu Xuemei to notice that Fang Lanlan had been left behind.
He Yunshen instructed Xiao Song to cancel the reservation at the state-owned restaurant and personally drove the family to a different place.
It wasn’t until they arrived at the restaurant that Lu Xuemei and her husband realized Fang Lanlan wasn’t with them.
Fang Shaocheng’s face darkened. “That child is so unruly—always causing worry. I’ll go back and get her.”
“I’ll go, Dad. You guys go ahead. I’ll be right back,” He Yunshen said before turning and getting back in the car.
At the side, Ning Wanwan’s starry eyes flashed, and she let out a sarcastic chuckle.
Better to get divorced quickly, she thought. That way I won’t get in the way of this star-crossed pair.
“Don’t come near me! If you get any closer, I’ll scream!”
Fang Lanlan was filled with fear, retreating step by step into the depths of a dark alley.
Two sleazy punks with greasy hair stroked their chins and approached slowly, leering at her petite figure in a way that made her want to vomit.
“Hey pretty girl, we’re not bad guys. We just want to treat you to dinner. How about it?”
Fang Lanlan had been forced to the very end of the alley, her back against a cold wall. She was crying, snot and tears all over her face.
“Please! Don’t come any closer! If you push me again… I’ll bash my head in right here! Then you’ll have to pay for it!”
But the perverts weren’t scared at all. They exchanged a glance and gave a lewd grin before lunging at her.
In desperation, Fang Lanlan closed her eyes and rammed her head against the wall. She lost consciousness instantly—but still ended up in the hands of the two punks.
Though they were disgusted, they didn’t stop, starting to pull at her dress roughly.
“What a jinx. Didn’t expect her to be so stubborn. Let’s just finish this quick before she dies and we end up in court.”
Just then, a green military jeep that had driven past suddenly reversed and screeched to a halt at the alley entrance.
He Yunshen, his brows furrowed tightly, jumped out of the car and charged into the alley.
Seeing his green military uniform, the two punks immediately panicked.
“Sir… sir! Don’t misunderstand! She’s our little sister. Someone bullied her and we’re taking her to the hospital!”
He Yunshen raised a brow. “Oh? Funny. I didn’t know my sister had two disgusting brothers like you.”
With that, he pulled off his military coat, revealing strong forearms under a white shirt, and charged at them.
Moments later, agonized screams like pigs being slaughtered echoed through the alley.
He Yunshen looked at the unconscious scumbags, his eyes icy.
He bent down to pick up his coat, walked toward Fang Lanlan’s limp form, and threw the coat over her head to cover her up. Then he picked her up and carried her back to the car.
He Yunshen (thinking): I’m not squeamish, I just faint at the sight of blood… Definitely not because she disgusts me.
But looking at the unconscious Fang Lanlan, He Yunshen couldn’t help but feel a bit repulsed.
He had a mild cleanliness obsession, and her current state was triggering it badly. He stuffed her into the car quickly and even pulled out a water bottle to wash his hands.
He drove straight to the local police station. When the officers saw it was a military car and a regimental commander stepping out, they skipped the usual procedures and immediately dispatched a unit after hearing the story.
He Yunshen then drove Fang Lanlan to the hospital. After ensuring she was properly admitted, he returned to the restaurant.
Originally, Fang Shaocheng and Lu Xuemei were angry at Fang Lanlan’s behavior. But after hearing what happened, they were shocked and frightened.
Dinner was canceled. He Yunshen drove everyone back to the hospital.
When Lu Xuemei saw the unconscious Fang Lanlan, she burst into tears. Even Fang Shaocheng fell silent, his eyes full of sorrow.
She was still their biological daughter. Seeing her like this made their hearts ache.
The attending doctor came in and said seriously, “The patient suffered a strong impact and may have a concussion. Our facilities are limited—we recommend a full evaluation at the city hospital.”
Ning Wanwan stared at the unconscious Fang Lanlan, her eyes full of confusion. This scene wasn’t in the original novel. What happened?
Did her presence somehow change the plot?
Before she could figure it out, Lu Xuemei interrupted her thoughts.
“Yunshen, take Wanwan home first. She’s not in good health. Go have dinner. Your dad and I will stay here tonight.”
He Yunshen nodded, gave a few instructions, and pushed Ning Wanwan’s wheelchair out of the hospital.
The two were silent the whole way.
Ning Wanwan was lost in thought about Fang Lanlan’s incident.
He Yunshen, on the other hand, was replaying that kiss from earlier over and over.
Driving with one hand, his mind was filled with pink bubbles.
Why were her lips so soft? They even tasted a little sweet… Like candy…
