Chapter 7: The Divine Doctor’s Miraculous Hands
The butcher stall owner got angry upon hearing the commotion. He straightened his neck, ready to argue, but his wife quickly pulled him back—life was hard enough as it was.
The elderly woman beside him turned pale with rage and quietly lowered her head.
Meanwhile, the woman on the ground began groaning louder and louder, “Oww… oww…”
Perhaps the pain was unbearable—she suddenly dashed toward a brick wall nearby and started slamming her head into it.
Everyone was shocked at the scene and rushed forward to stop her.
The young girl’s eyes turned red as she watched her mother suffer in pain. Her thin knees buckled, and with a thud, she knelt before Doctor Zhou Hongchang.
“Doctor Zhou, I beg you. As long as you’re willing to save my mother, I’ll do whatever you ask. Please, I’m begging you, have mercy…”
Ning Wanwan was deeply moved, but with so many people around and her acupuncture needles still stored in her space, she couldn’t risk taking them out and causing trouble.
By now, the woman had been restrained by the crowd. Blood was visible on her previously unscathed forehead.
Seeing her daughter humble herself just to save her, the woman forced herself to stay strong and weakly said, “Xiao Ling, get up, stop begging. Mommy doesn’t hurt anymore. Let’s go home…”
The girl called Xiao Ling didn’t move. She stood still, letting Zhou Hongchang leer at her with his filthy gaze.
“You’ll really do anything I ask?” he said, rubbing his chin while calculating his next move.
Ning Wanwan (in her head): If you’re going to be this shameless, I absolutely won’t sit by and do nothing.
The crowd could tell what perverted thoughts Zhou had just by looking at his expression.
“Ugh! What a scumbag. Go look in a mirror before thinking you’re anything special!”
“Young people today shouldn’t have to witness this filth… society really is going downhill.”
“They say doctors should save lives with compassion. Just look at this world. Sigh…”
Just as Xiao Ling was about to nod and give in, she saw a pale, jade-like hand and the faint shadow of a wheelchair appear in her lowered line of sight.
“Little sister, don’t cry. Come on, get up. Let me take a look at your mother.”
Ning Wanwan spoke softly while casting a warning glare at Zhou Hongchang.
Zhou glanced at her casually, his eyes filled with disdain.
He sneered sarcastically, “What could a cripple possibly know? Can’t even cure herself, yet she’s pretending to be some miracle healer? If she ends up killing someone, she’ll land herself in jail.”
With a cold grunt and a muttered “overestimating herself,” he arrogantly sat back at his stall to watch the show.
What, is this crippled girl going to turn things around? Don’t end up losing more than you gain.
Xiao Ling looked into Ning Wanwan’s bright, watery eyes and gave a firm nod, placing her dirty little hand in Ning’s pale one.
“Pretty sister, I believe you. Please save my mom.”
Ning Wanwan gently pulled Xiao Ling up and wiped away her tears with a handkerchief.
Then, struggling a bit, she wheeled herself over to Zhou Hongchang’s stall and pointed at the acupuncture kit on his table.
“Doctor Zhou, may I borrow your needles?”
Zhou scoffed, then said disdainfully, “Sure, but you’ll have to pay 50 cents after using them. And if someone dies, it’s not on me.”
Ning Wanwan (in her head): You’re dreaming if you think a genius like me would kill someone. What a joke.
“Of course. If anyone dies, I’ll take full responsibility. Here’s your 50 cents.”
She grabbed the needle kit and moved toward Xiao Ling’s mother. Xiao Ling quickly helped push her over.
Ning Wanwan first took her pulse, then picked up a needle and turned to Xiao Ling.
“Xiao Ling, help hold your mom steady. Don’t let her move. I’m about to begin.”
Xiao Ling nodded quickly and took her mother from the crowd, holding her upright.
“Mom, don’t move. The goddess doctor is here to save you. You won’t be in pain much longer.”
Hearing that, the woman finally calmed down. Both mother and daughter did their best to cooperate with Ning’s treatment.
Ning nodded, drew a silver needle, and aimed between the woman’s brows, inserting it into the Yuyao acupuncture point.
Zhou Hongchang glanced up and scoffed. “Some people barely know a bit of medicine and already think they can treat patients. Better not end up facing charges when something goes wrong.”
The crowd began to murmur uneasily. Ning Wanwan looked so young—could someone like her really be skilled in medicine?
But Ning paid no attention to their doubts. Her expression was calm and confident, and her needling technique was smooth and practiced. Before long, the woman’s face and head were fully treated with needles.
The crowd was stunned. This girl’s skill was clearly far better than Zhou Hongchang’s.
As they say, outsiders watch for the excitement, insiders see the technique. Even Zhou Hongchang retracted his sneer, realizing this “crippled girl” wasn’t just some amateur.
“Ma’am, how do you feel now? Does your headache feel any better?”
With her face full of needles, the woman couldn’t speak and just nodded slightly.
The crowd assumed she was just being polite, and their doubts grew louder.
The woman (in her mind): I’m not just being polite! Please don’t misunderstand…
Ning was confident in her medical skills and didn’t overthink it. She watched her wristwatch, timing the treatment.
Zhou, meanwhile, misunderstood the woman’s subtle nod and grinned with malicious glee, adding with sarcasm:
“If you can’t handle real work, don’t take it on. Getting sued at your age will ruin your whole future…”
Then he happily sipped tea from a small pot and even began humming a tune.
Hearing that, the woman became upset and tried to speak up, but Ning quickly stopped her.
“Ma’am, please stay calm. Speak after the needles are out.”
She nodded obediently.
Thirty minutes later, Ning removed all the needles from her face and head.
Just as Ning lowered her gaze to put away the needles, the woman grabbed her daughter and knelt before her with a thud.
Ning panicked. “Ma’am, what are you doing? Please get up, you can’t do this!”
The mother and daughter’s actions shocked the crowd. Didn’t they say the treatment didn’t work? Why are they kneeling?
Because of her limited mobility, Ning struggled several times to pull the woman up but failed. Her cheeks flushed red with urgency.
“Benefactor! Thank you so much. You’re like a divine doctor reborn!”
“The moment you inserted the needles, my headache stopped. You’re amazing—the greatest doctor I’ve ever met.”
“You truly brought me back from the brink. Without you, I might’ve died from the pain today.”
“To tell you the truth, I’ve seen Doctor Zhou more than ten times before. Not only did he fail to cure me, but he also drained all my savings.”
“That quack told me I had an incurable illness and needed long-term treatment, or I’d suffer forever. But with just one treatment from you, the pain vanished instantly…”
