Chapter 19

Wen Lin’s whole body tensed at once. He cautiously shifted his leg to the side, but Mu Wanwan again draped her leg over his, pressing her body closer against him.

A soft sensation pressed against his arm, and a certain place on his body felt as if it had caught fire.

Her smooth, slender leg lay across his, her upper body tightly pressed to him, her arm resting on his chest.

Wen Lin turned his head slightly to glance at the soundly sleeping Mu Wanwan, feeling a bit speechless.

“What a big bun…”

Mu Wanwan suddenly mumbled in her sleep. The hand resting on his chest mischievously gave two squeezes.

Wen Lin felt both exasperated and amused. With her clutching him so tightly, he couldn’t even push her away.

The drowsiness he had finally managed to gather vanished again, leaving him staring up at the ceiling.

The air in the room seemed to grow hotter and hotter. Her scent kept drifting to his nose.

It felt as though his very blood was surging restlessly, sweat soaking through his clothes.

Only when dawn had broken and the sky grew light did he finally fall asleep.

The next morning, Mu Wanwan slept until she woke naturally. She stretched out lazily, but the moment her arm reached out, it bumped into something.

Then came a voice, tinged with anger: “Mu Wanwan!”

Wen Lin covered his nose. With that bump from her, his eyes nearly watered.

Only then did Mu Wanwan realize how close she had been lying to him. She was sprawled across half his body, one leg wedged between his, their posture highly intimate.

She instantly pulled away from him.

What on earth? Before they had gone to sleep, they had clearly been far apart.

It seemed she had rolled over in the night. Feeling guilty, she recalled how restless she usually was in her sleep. Once she was out, there was no controlling it.

Scratching her head, she asked softly, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to just now. Is your nose all right?”

Wen Lin rubbed at it, thinking bitterly that sleeping beside her was sheer torture.

“It’s fine. Just be more careful tonight.”

He did not want another sleepless, overheated night.

“Don’t worry, it won’t happen again!”

She promised quickly, then climbed out of bed. After hesitating a moment, she asked, “Um… do you need the bathroom? If you do, I’ll call Grandpa to help you.”

At the question, Wen Lin felt awkward. Still, he did need to go. Pretending calm, he nodded.

Mu Wanwan went to the guest room to fetch the old man, but found it empty. Grandpa must have gone out for a walk.

What to do now?

Well, she would just have to help. People had needs—she couldn’t leave him like this.

“Since Grandpa isn’t here, I’ll wait a bit,” Wen Lin said. He felt uncomfortable at the thought of her helping him to the toilet. If there were anyone else, he would rather endure.

Mu Wanwan frowned. “What’s there to be embarrassed about? Holding it in for too long is bad for your health.”

As she spoke, her gaze flicked downward between his legs. She had heard men could suffer problems if they held it too long.

Wen Lin, once a soldier, had sharp instincts. How could he not notice her glance?

She had said nothing, but he could guess what was on her mind.

Grinding his teeth, he quickly sat upright.

Mu Wanwan hurried over and let him rest an arm across her shoulders.

He was heavy. Even without leaning his full weight on her, she felt nearly crushed, wondering how he could possibly weigh so much.

Though the distance from the bedroom to the bathroom was short, she was panting hard by the time they arrived.

Wen Lin glanced down at her. Her cheeks were flushed, making her look unexpectedly cute.

But when his eyes drifted lower, he caught sight of the whiteness peeking from her collar.

At once, he snapped his gaze upward, forcing himself not to look again.

After settling him in the bathroom, she hurried out, soon hearing the sounds inside. Her cheeks burned with embarrassment.

When Wen Lin came out, freshly washed, he looked no less uncomfortable. Mu Wanwan braced herself again and half-carried him back toward the bed.

Just as she was about to ease him down, her shoe slipped. She pitched forward, falling straight onto him.

Instinctively, Wen Lin caught her. They landed in a compromising pose—her body on top of his.

Mu Wanwan crashed into his chest. His wound twinged, making him hiss. At the same time, her toe slammed against the bedframe, and tears pricked her eyes from the pain.

Why was she so unlucky? To stumble even on flat ground!

Wen Lin stared at her. Her moist almond eyes shimmered, rimmed red, her small nose making her features all the more delicate.

Up close, he noticed how flawless her skin was, as smooth as fine jade.

Even worse, her upper body pressed against him, her curves evident despite her slender frame.

Wen Lin’s Adam’s apple bobbed twice. His heart gave a subtle tremor.

“Wanwan, what’s for breakfast—oh! You’re busy, I didn’t see anything, carry on!”

Old Master Wen had returned from his stroll, assuming Wanwan was in the kitchen. Instead, he caught sight of the two young people tangled on the bed.

In an instant, he “understood.” Chuckling, he slipped back to his room, humming a tune.

So the young ones just needed time together. After one night, sparks had already flown.

If they spent a little longer under the same roof, he might soon have a great-grandchild toddling around.

Pleased with the thought, he imagined a plump baby waving at him.

Meanwhile, in the main bedroom, both young people had snapped apart, flustered.

Wanwan scrambled up. “Does your wound hurt?”

“No.”

Wen Lin’s ears burned red. He didn’t dare meet her eyes.

“Good, then I’ll go make breakfast!”

She hurried off, heart still pounding, forcing herself to calm down. She could not afford to think too much.

Wen Lin was poison. She must not develop feelings for him again, or she would only repeat the tragedy of her past life.

That bitter lesson was warning enough—she would never let herself be bewitched by that man’s face again.
