A big speechless incident just happened (1)
The moment the door closed, a rush of cold air carrying the fragrance of her shampoo wafted out. On the stifling summer night, it brought a hint of coolness, but it did nothing to alleviate the tense atmosphere.
Gu Xun stared at her closed door, his breath stuck in his chest. There was an indescribable restlessness jumping all over his body, and he felt the impulse to ring her doorbell several times.
However, he hesitated when he raised his hand midair, and ultimately, he didn’t press it down. He turned around and pushed open his own door.
At some point, Jiang Junnan was now standing at the doorway, holding a takeout box, and looking at him curiously.
When Gu Xun entered the apartment, Jiang Junnan saw him walk straight to his room and called out, “Don’t you want to eat?”
Gu Xun didn’t even turn his head.
“Are you still not full from being shut out?”
Jiang Junnan swallowed a bite of food, unable to resist his gossiping nature. He asked, “No, seriously, what happened between you two? Did you say something nasty when she confessed?”
Hearing this, Gu Xun suddenly stopped in his tracks and turned around, his face was terrifyingly dark.
Jiang Junnan suddenly said, “No way? I guessed it right?
If that was the case, Jiang Junnan’s sense of guilt was slightly relieved.
He hadn’t told Gu Xun about what happened in the elevator.
He didn’t dare mention it. He was afraid of being sent to the airport in the middle of the night.
Looking at the current situation, he was even more afraid to say it.
But at least he wasn’t the instigator of this mess.
Gu Xun sat in front of his desk, his face illuminated by the faint blue light of the computer screen.
It wouldn’t be accurate to say he was offended by her, but he indeed always viewed Yue Qianling through a somewhat unfavorable filter.
This matter was somewhat complicated to say.
He remembered their first meeting.
At that time, Gu Xun had just slightly eased the strained relationship with his mother, Gu Pingyun, and he had taken the initiative to compromise.
Later, when Gu Pingyun came to Jiangcheng for a business trip, it coincided with Yue Qianling’s mother being in the same area. The two mothers connected and found out that their children were attending the same university, so they decided to meet for a meal.
For some reason, Gu Pingyun took a special liking to Yue Qianling the first time they met. She found her particularly pleasing and, despite knowing that Gu Xun didn’t enjoy casual conversations with strangers, she continuously directed the conversation towards him and Yue Qianling.
At the dinner table, Gu Xun was already quite annoyed.
After the meal, Gu Pingyun smiled and said to him, “You’re at the age where you should start dating. I think Yue Qianling is a good girl. She’s the type I like—beautiful, studying art, well-mannered, and she is the same age as you. She’s the perfect girl to balance you out. By the way, why didn’t you add her on WeChat? You two are a good match. So, you two should hang out when you have time.”
She listed Yue Qianling’s merits one by one, seemingly having made arrangements with confidence.
Little did she know that Gu Xun had spent the past twenty years fighting against her arrangements.
From the time he could remember—what clothes to wear, what food to eat, what books to read, what hobbies to learn, even which people to be friends with—all of it had been tightly controlled by her arrangements.
Even during one summer vacation, when Gu Xun and Xiao Mai went to Hainan for vacation. Before leaving, Gu Pingyun handed him a list with detailed instructions on what to do and eat on the first day, the second day, the third day…
During that particular vacation, even Xiao Mai could personally feel Gu Xun’s suffocation.
However, as Gu Xun grew older, Gu Pingyun’s behavior only got worse.
When Gu Xun resisted, she always had eloquent justifications.
“Look at how you’re no different from someone without a dad? Has your dad ever taken care of you since you were a child? Have you forgotten the year he attended your parent-teacher conference and didn’t even know what grade you were in? If I don’t care for you twice, how can you grow up healthy?”
In his junior year of high school, Gu Pingyun finally had enough and divorced Lin Shenghua.
She didn’t even ask Gu Xun’s opinion, she took him away with the court’s decision.
Less than a month later, when Gu Xun returned home after school, he learned that Gu Pingyun had even changed his last name.
“Since we’re divorced now, you can just pretend that your father doesn’t exist. From now on, you’re Gu Pingyun’s only son.”
From Lin Xun to Gu Xun, he didn’t even have the right to know.
A few months later, the college entrance examination results came out.
Gu Xun glanced at the results and went to bed.
However, as soon as he woke up the next day, Gu Pingyun had prepared something on the dining table.
“With these results, there’s no need to say it. You’ll naturally go to P University. But you’re an adult now, and you need to take responsibility for your own future. I’ve picked out some promising majors for you to choose from.”
That morning, Gu Xun silently stared at Gu Pingyun, his gaze gradually shifting from anger to helplessness.
“Whatever you want.”
Gu Pingyun then helped him fill out his college applications.
However, on the eve of the application deadline, Gu Xun went to school alone to find a teacher to change his application.
Although the school stipulated that changing applications required parental consent, the teacher made an exception for Gu Xun.
When the admission notice arrived, Gu Pingyun repeatedly called the school to confirm if they made a mistake.
After getting no answer, she calmed down and, upon seeing Gu Xun’s calm expression, realized everything.
That time, Gu Pingyun and Gu Xun’s arguments escalated into a cold war, which lasted for nearly three years.
There had been brief periods of easing, but they always ended up in similar conflicts.
Therefore, the first time Gu Xun met Yue Qianling, she came with the resurgence of Gu Pingyun’s controlling tendencies.
The resistance Gu Xun felt actually had nothing to do with Yue Qianling herself. Whether she was Yue Qianling or Wang Qianling, the effect would be the same.
But now, things have reached this point.
Gu Xun opened his eyes and looked up at the ceiling, feeling that the gears of fate were really spinning blindly.
To this day, he still couldn’t quite believe it.
***
Early in the morning, Yue Qianling opened her eyes and found herself in an unfamiliar environment, feeling a bit disoriented.
She subconsciously got out of bed and hurriedly washed up, then sat down at the dressing table to start putting on makeup.
When she picked up the foundation and was about to squeeze it out, she paused for a moment. It took Yue Qianling a while to realize that not only the environment had changed.
So, the time she would have spent carefully dressing up was used to eat a refined breakfast.
Back when she lived in the school dorms, far from the company, she had to wake up early for makeup, and her breakfast consisted of milk and bread from convenience store every day.
It had been a long time since she sat down to slowly enjoy a breakfast with hot milk and eggs like this.
More than half an hour later, she dressed in simple short sleeves and pants to work.
She was looking at her phone while walking, and it wasn’t until she reached the elevator that she noticed a familiar figure.
Gu Xun seemed to have sensed her presence and turned his head to the side.
Their eyes met, Gu Xun opened his mouth and was about to say something. However, Yue Qianling had no expression, her gaze only lightly lingered on him for a second before returning to her phone.
Gu Xun: “……”
There were only the two of them in the elevator, standing in opposite corners.
Yue Qianling kept her head down, holding her phone, her fingers rapidly typing without a break.
It wasn’t until the elevator reached the first floor that she finally looked up.
Gu Xun opened his mouth, but before the word “you” could be uttered, Yue Qianling took a call and walked away without looking back.
It wasn’t until she walked out of the building that Yue Qianling put her phone back in her bag.
She stood on the steps for a moment, took a long breath, and patted her chest.
Although she had almost run away just now.
But the challenge of facing Gu Xun without expression on the first day, barely succeeded!
