You Have Someone You Like? (1)
Faced with Yi Hong’s questioning, Gu Xun didn’t say a word, but his half-closed, droopy eyelids and every single eyelash seemed to say, “Yes, I’m really tired of listening. If you keep going, I might just put on a show of falling asleep on the spot.”
Coincidentally, the elevator had arrived on the 24th floor, and the doors were slowly opening.
During Yi Hong’s dumbfounded moment, Gu Xun simply walked forward, heading for the pantry on the left.
Yi Hong had never encountered such an outrageous situation.
He stood still for a couple of seconds, then quickly followed over, only to find Gu Xun pouring himself a cup of coffee.
“Seriously, are you really that tired?”
This time, Yi Hong carefully examined Gu Xun and realized that his eyes did indeed look a bit tired. “Did you not sleep well last night? Why do you seem so out of sorts?”
Gu Xun lifted an eyebrow and replied with no particular emotion, “Try being woken up in the middle of the night and see if you’re in high spirits.”
“I don’t get woken up in the middle of the night,” Yi Hong said confidently. “Because I don’t sleep in the middle of the night.”
Gu Xun didn’t pay him any attention.
As they walked out of the pantry and passed through the common office area of the development department, someone suddenly called out to Gu Xun.
The person wore thick-rimmed glasses perched on the bridge of his nose and was known as Map among the development department staff. He sat upright in front of his computer, and on the screen, densely packed details were displayed on the Ludum Dare information page.
He lifted his glasses slightly, squinting at Gu Xun. “I heard you won first place in the LD #30 Compo. Why didn’t I see your name on the list?”
Gu Xun stopped in his tracks and turned to look at his screen.
Map continued, “How old are you this year? LD #30 took place in 2014, so you were still in high school back then, right?”
He gave Gu Xun a once-over and added with a sarcastic tone, “Don’t you guys have homework in high school?”
Yi Hong, standing nearby, raised an eyebrow, not quite sure what was going on.
Ludum Dare was a rapid online game development challenge founded by Geoff Howland. The condition of not requiring teams or physical attendance made it possible for experts from all fields to participate in the challenge every time. Its high degree of freedom rules raised the difficulty to the point where even ordinary people lack the courage to sign up.
So, when Map asked this question, he was subtly implying that Gu Xun was bragging. His eyes were filled with excitement, as if he had caught Gu Xun in a lie and was ready to expose it to the world.
Why should a recent college graduate be in charge of development?
Of course, Map was not the only one who had this thought.
At the surrounding workstations, one after another, people raised their heads, staring in their direction.
However, Gu Xun, who had the center of attention, still seemed to be battling his drowsiness.
He casually glanced at Map, walked a couple of steps to his side, extended his arm, and placed the coffee next to his mouse. Then, he bent down.
Map suddenly felt a shadow looming over him and stiffened. He watched Gu Xun leaning over to reach out and grab his mouse. Gu Xun moved the mouse a couple of times, selecting the letters “XUN LIN,” and then straightened up, looking down at Map, who was seated.
“In high school, I had a lot of homework. At that time, I went by the name Lin Xun.”
He tilted his head slightly and asked nonchalantly, “Where were you at that time…?”
Under the bright sunlight, as Gu Xun’s narrow, slanted eyes cast a sidelong glance, his nonchalant demeanor was filled with an elusive yet pervasive sense of disdain.
Map suddenly felt a lump in his throat, and he could only stare at Gu Xun, unable to utter a word.
Gu Xun reached out and picked up the coffee that he had only drunk halfway, allowing various gazes to stick to his back. He didn’t give any more attention to his surroundings and walked directly down the hallway.
Only Yi Hong followed him, leaning on his shoulder and asking, “You changed your name?”
“Yeah.”
Yi Hong found it quite intriguing as he had never seen someone change their name after high school. “Why did you change it when you’re already so grown up?”
However, Gu Xun didn’t seem to want to discuss this matter. He sipped a large mouthful of coffee while walking, gazing straight ahead, and his eyes carried a hint of cold indifference.
“The previous name was too ordinary, not worthy of me.”
Yi Hong: “…”
From that point on, Yi Hong remained silent, and the two of them walked side by side without saying a word.
As they passed by a window with its blinds still up, Gu Xun suddenly stopped in his tracks.
The afternoon sunlight streamed in through the window, creating large patches, casting a glossy sheen on the green plants by the windowsill.
He walked slowly toward the window and stood in the beam of light, squinting as he looked at a few strangely shaped clouds in the sky.
The golden sunlight danced on his face, softening his features.
After a few seconds, he suddenly took out his phone and snapped a photo of the sky.
On the 19th floor, in a corner of the Mobile Games Division, with no one around.
【Yin Xue】: Hahahahaha, is this for real??
【Yin Xue】: I suggest posting it in the Douban “*Social Death” group.
(*a term often used humorously online to describe a desire to disconnect from social interactions.)
【Yin Xue】: I’m seriously dying of laughter.
As soon as Yue Qianling got out of the elevator, she started venting about what had happened today in her dorm group chat. However, all she got in response was mockery, and she didn’t get any consolation.
【Glutinous Rice Twist】: Every time I think about what just happened, I get this tingling sensation on my scalp and feel all awkward with my toes curling up. And you’re still laughing. Do you want to taste my fist?
【Yin Xue】: You have to look at this situation from a different perspective.
【Yin Xue】: Look, he’s only been there for two days, and you’ve already bumped into each other twice. If you hadn’t resigned, wouldn’t you be able to run into each other every day?
【Yin Xue】: Maybe even have dinner or social events together.
【Yin Xue】: By the way, why did you go to the office today?
Why go to the office?
Wasn’t it just to try her luck and see if she could run into Gu Xun?!
Suddenly, Yue Qianling felt like Yin Xue’s words were like a hammer hitting the top of her head.
It made her feel a bit dizzy, but her thoughts also became clearer.
Yeah.
As long as she returned to work, she might end up taking the same subway with Gu Xun every day to and from work. She would have plenty of reasons to talk to him. Wouldn’t she have many opportunities to show herself? And she was afraid that Gu Xun wouldn’t remember her name?
Compared to Gu Xun, what were the minor inconveniences at the company?
This was like the matchmaker using handcuffs to bind the two of them together. If she didn’t seize this opportunity, it would be as if a dog biting Cupid himself and not understanding the matchmaker’s heart.
With these thoughts in mind, Yue Qianling hardly had any recollection of the gloves anymore. She turned around and pressed the elevator button.
However, when the elevator doors opened in front of her, she didn’t move her legs.
Standing at the entrance, she hung her head and remembered her resignation drama, where even eight horses couldn’t pull her back.
She raised her hand and touched her cheek, feeling a bit sore.
In just a few seconds, a fierce battle was raging in Yue Qianling’s heart.
It wasn’t until the doors were about to close automatically that Yue Qianling closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and, with a determined “go for it” attitude, took a big step inside.
Back in this enclosed space, Yue Qianling nervously and anxiously stared at the changing floor numbers. She was calculating how she would approach the company’s HR to make the unreasonable request of wanting to return to work.
Her mind was so focused that even the sudden consecutive vibrations of her phone startled her.
She hastily took out her phone.
【School Grass】: [Image]
【School Grass】: Look at these clouds.
【School Grass】: Don’t they resemble the M24 I took from you yesterday?
Yue Qianling: “…”
This idiot was still bragging about it.
Her nervousness deflated instantly, like a punctured balloon. She typed with a cold face.
【Glutinous Rice Twist】: Just like the AWM I’m going to use to blow your dog head off tonight.
