You Have Someone You Like? (2)
After sending that message, the elevator arrived at the 22nd floor.
This was the company’s administrative department, and the Human Resources office was located in the outermost office area.
Yue Qianling was embarrassed to walk in. Instead, she only peeked her head inside for a quick look around.
The administrative staff were not as busy as the frontline workers, and most of them were on lunch break at the moment. Chen Yin, who was relatively familiar to her, was playing with her phone.
Everything seemed to align with Yue Qianling’s wishes.
With a smile at the corner of her eyes, she approached Chen Yin quietly and gently tapped her on the shoulder.
In Chen Yin’s surprised gaze, Yue Qianling whispered, “Can we step outside for a moment? I have something to talk to you about.”
Although Chen Yin was puzzled, she put her phone down and followed Yue Qianling out to the corridor.
“What’s going on? Did you forget something?”
“No, no.” The two of them stood in the corridor by the floor-to-ceiling window, basking in the sunlight, which gave Yue Qianling some extra courage.
She took a deep breath and blurted out, “I regret it. I want to come back to work. Do you think I still have a chance?”
Chen Yin didn’t respond immediately.
She crossed her arms and scrutinized Yue Qianling with a faint, unsurprised smile on her lips. However, there was a hint of surprise in her eyes.
“So, you’ve had a change of heart so quickly?”
Yue Qianling nodded eagerly, “I didn’t appreciate it before and didn’t realize how good the company is. I just took a nap and woke up with a change of heart.”
Chen Yin wasn’t surprised at all by Yue Qianling’s situation.
In the game industry, most companies would often treat employees like machines. Everyone was equally exhausted, and no one cared much about their dreams. Getting a higher paycheck became the most practical goal.
Fresh graduates often have unstable minds and are most susceptible to wavering. Being able to figure things out this quickly is not too idealistic.
So, Chen Yin didn’t intend to press further and simply furrowed her brows, saying, “We’ve had similar cases in the company before, but no one has changed their mind as quickly as you did. I’ll have to talk to the department head and the boss first to see what they think.”
She reached out and patted Yue Qianling’s shoulder. “But according to company policies, if you return within three months of resigning, you won’t be able to go back to your original department. Can you accept that?”
Yue Qianling hadn’t expected this, and her eyes lit up, “Can I go to the Ninth Business Division then?”
Chen Yin turned around with an expressionless face and said, “I have things to attend to. Stay in touch if you need anything, but don’t contact me for no reason.”
“Sister, wait!” Yue Qianling quickly grabbed her, “I was just joking with you.”
In fact, Yue Qianling didn’t have any hopes of getting into the Ninth Business Division in the first place.
And not having to return to her original department, wasn’t this exactly what she wanted?
“I know you want to join the Ninth Business Division. Who in our company with any ambition wouldn’t want to?” Chen Yin turned around, and tilted her head to look at a few men walking past the end of the corridor, “However, there are certain things you need to understand. There’s a hierarchy of contempt within their department. Even if the boss is willing to transfer you, they won’t accept you.”
Yue Qianling asked, “What do you mean by hierarchy of contempt?”
Chen Yin furrowed her brows and looked at Yue Qianling with some pity. “Those extreme enthusiast of 3A games in their department, you know, they look down on mobile games. They believe that neither players nor developers have any technical skills.”
Yue Qianling suddenly felt disheartened, but she couldn’t help but ask, “So, they don’t play mobile games at all?”
“As far as I know, they don’t play mobile games. They think it affects their aesthetic sense,” Chen Yin remembered something funny and chuckled. “They think that those who work on mobile games are just like people putting screen protectors.”
Yue Qianling: “…”
They think that those who work on mobile games are just like people putting screen protectors.
Putting screen protectors…
Screen protector…
Although Yue Qianling had heard this phrase before while watching esports matches, hearing it directly from Chen Yin made it clear how the Ninth Business Division viewed her position, or rather, how Gu Xun viewed her…
It turned out that when Gu Xun saw her, it was as if he was looking at a diligent screen protector guy under the overpass.
Suffocating.
Yue Qianling had never felt so suffocated before.
“Let’s not talk about it. There’s a meeting about to start. You should head back and wait for a message. I’ll call you when there’s news,” Chen Yin said and then walked away.
Yue Qianling stood there in a daze, and it took her a while before she slowly made her way toward the elevator.
Winter nights always came early.
The people in the development department had never had a concept of leaving work on time. Around eight or nine in the evening, the office area was still filled with people.
Yi Hong stood up, stretched lazily, and looked around at everyone. Then, he sat back down, and sent a message in the group chat, suggesting going out for dinner.
As a result, everyone assumed it was the end of the workday, and people began to pack up one by one.
The compiler on Gu Xun’s screen was still running a program. He waited until everyone around him had gotten up before he neatly shut down his computer, picked up his phone from the desk, and left with the others.
In the elevator, Yi Hong took out his phone and said, “No need to wait in line today. Let’s go straight there.”
Hearing this, Gu Xun also checked his phone and glanced at it.
On his message list, his conversation with Little Twist still stopped at, “Just like the AWM I’m going to use to blow your dog head off tonight.”
Just like the AWM I’m going to use to blow your dog head off tonight.
I’m going to use to blow your dog head off tonight.
Tonight.
He turned off the screen, put his phone back in his bag, and then turned to Yi Hong, saying, “I’m not going to dinner.”
Yi Hong turned abruptly, “Why?”
When the elevator door opened, and Gu Xun strode out, leaving only the words, “Someone invited me to play games tonight.”
Now, at the mention of “playing games”, Yue Qianling would immediately associate it with the image of someone sticking screen protectors under the overpass.
So, when she returned to her dormitory, instead of her usual routine of logging into various games, she focused all her attention on her graduation project.
It was only at 9:30 PM that she received a WeChat voice call.
Yue Qianling had been in a bad mood all day, so her tone was less than pleasant when she answered, “What?!”
“Why didn’t you reply to my messages?”
As soon as she heard this voice, Yue Qianling’s inexplicable depression seemed to dissipate by half.
Her tone softened, “I didn’t check my phone.”
“Oh, log in then.”
Yue Qianling propped up her chin, sketching aimlessly on her digital tablet, “I’m not coming.”
“Why?”
Yue Qianling replied, “I don’t want to be like someone sticking screen protectors every day.”
“…” There was a pause on the other end. “What’s gotten into you?”
“Don’t you think playing mobile games is a lot like…” Yue Qianling hesitated for a moment, then dropped her stylus and reached for her headphones. “Never mind. For your sake, I’ll play, screen protector duties and all. I’m logging in.”
“Hmm? For my sake?”
“Yeah.” Yue Qianling thought of something and got a bit lost in her thoughts. She held the headphones in her hand, lightly rubbing them, and muttered softly, “Did I ever tell you that your voice sounds a lot like someone I like?”
This time, there was a sudden silence from the other side.
After several seconds, his tone changed from the earlier arrogance to something low and somewhat melancholic.
“You… have someone you like?”
