Actually, his parents probably didn’t care whether he got married or not, or who he married.
At that moment, a message popped up, interrupting his thoughts.
G: [Do you have a car?]
The young man tapped the notification, jumping to the page.
Seven: [No.]
He hadn’t mentioned his financial situation to the man.
So he added: [I only bought a house.]
He had only been working formally for three years. This house was bought with his housing subsidy from work and the money he had saved from part-time jobs over the years.
G: [Where is it?]
Seven: [Yun Tai Apartment in Shulin District.]
Seven: [I’m currently paying off my mortgage. Doctor Guan doesn’t need to worry, I’ll still bear it myself after marriage. As for other financial matters, we can manage them separately.]
He knew that Guan Yue’s financial situation was definitely better than his, and he didn’t want him to feel like he was at a disadvantage, so he quickly stated his position.
This time, the other party didn’t reply instantly. Pei Qi started scrolling through his interface out of boredom.
After scrolling about seven or eight times, he finally received a new message.
G: [I’ll pick you up at your apartment tomorrow.]
Seven: [No need to bother, it’s quite close to the subway station.]
G: [It’s on the way.]
The young man’s fingers paused on the keyboard for a few seconds, deleting and rewriting.
G: [To reduce the risk of me not being able to find you.]
Pei Qi: “…”
Awkward.
He really wanted to explain that he wasn’t the kind of person who ran away easily.
Last time was…
Forget it, the more he explained, the more confusing it became.
So he could only reply awkwardly: [Okay, see you tomorrow.]
Seven: [Good night.]
There was no reply, and the young man didn’t wait. He put his phone on the bedside table to charge and then burrowed into his blanket to sleep.
The next day at seven o’clock, Pei Qi’s biological clock woke him up.
After washing up, the young man looked in the mirror and adjusted his hair. He seemed to need to take photos for the marriage certificate.
Fortunately, he had gotten a haircut last month, and his bangs were just the right length. He simply used a hairdryer to make them a little fluffy, and that was all he could do.
Seven thirty.
He had just put the eggs in the pot when his phone on the stovetop lit up.
G: [I’ve arrived.]
That was too fast.
Didn’t he say he’d be here at eight?
The young man put the lid on the pot, picked up his phone, and replied: [I’m still cooking breakfast.]
G: [It’s fine, take your time.]
Pei Qi had just typed “Okay” into the input box when he suddenly realized something, deleted the words in the input box, and retyped: [Have you eaten? Do you want to come up and have some?]
A few seconds later.
G: [Which unit, which floor?]
Seven: [Unit 3, 7th floor.]
G: [Okay.]
Actually… he was just being polite, but he didn’t expect…
The young man looked at the single egg in the pot and quickly took another one from the refrigerator and put it in.
He wasn’t a good cook and didn’t usually have high demands on food.
Usually, if he felt hungry, he would just grab something to eat.
As for breakfast, it was very simple, just an egg and a glass of milk.
But… Doctor Guan didn’t seem like that kind of rough person.
“Ding dong.”
The doorbell rang.
Pei Qi hurried out of the kitchen and went to the door.
The moment he opened the security door, a handsome face with sharp features appeared before his eyes, the kind of handsome that wouldn’t be controversial.
Toughly handsome.
Unlike the last time they met, Guan Yue today was wearing a well-tailored white shirt, formal but not overly stiff.
Pei Qi didn’t dare to stare for too long, turning around to find shoes for the man: “Come in quickly.”
He rarely had guests, but he had bought a buy-one-get-one-free pair of slippers at the supermarket before.
“This one is clean, it’s never been worn,” he emphasized, wanting the man to feel comfortable wearing them.
“Okay, thank you.” Guan Yue bent down, standing at the entrance, changing his shoes.
They were clean, but a bit short.
Guan Yue’s heels were outside the edge of the slippers, at least three or four centimeters exposed.
Pei Qi also saw this—these were slippers he had bought according to his own size—and couldn’t help but feel embarrassed: “These slippers might be a little small.”
The man didn’t seem to mind, walking inside in the ill-fitting slippers: “My feet are too big.”
The young man felt speechless. That wasn’t what he meant.
The two of them went to the kitchen one after another.
Guan Yue: “Teacher Pei, what did you make for breakfast?”
Pei Qi scratched the back of his head and answered truthfully: “Boiled eggs.”
Guan Yue, standing at the dining table, seemed to be waiting for him to say something else.
A few seconds later.
Guan Yue: “That’s it?”
Pei Qi: “Milk…”
“Is there any food in the refrigerator?” The man turned his head and looked at the smart refrigerator in the kitchen, but didn’t open it without permission.
“Uh…” Pei Qi himself forgot whether he had stocked up, walked over and opened the refrigerator door.
Perfect, it was impressively empty.
He shouldn’t have bought a double-door refrigerator, such a waste.
“Only… eggs and noodles, and half a cucumber.”
The man behind him had approached without him noticing.
The young man’s body was enveloped in a tall shadow.
“Egg noodles, want some?” A low, magnetic voice came from behind him.
It made his ears tingle.
“Yes…” but I don’t know how to make them.
He only said one word.
Then a hand reached into his peripheral vision, picking up the noodles and eggs from the refrigerator shelf: “Just sit and wait.”
The young man blinked, slowly closing the refrigerator.
When he turned around, Guan Yue was already turning on the stove.
He said he would let him come up for breakfast.
How did it become him making breakfast?
The man worked quickly, and in about five or six minutes, two steaming bowls of egg noodles were on the table.
“Limited ingredients, make do with it,” Guan Yue handed him a pair of chopsticks.
Pei Qi took them, his eyes falling on the bowl of noodles: “It looks delicious.”
He picked up a chopstick and slurped a big mouthful.
It was the kind of deliciousness that felt homely.
Guan Yue: “Teacher Pei, do you only eat eggs and milk for breakfast?”
Pei Qi swallowed the noodles: “Yeah… I don’t know how to cook, and I’m usually in a hurry in the morning, so I just eat whatever.”
“Then I can cook in the future, but my work is quite busy.” The man didn’t rush to eat, “I still want to give Teacher Pei a heads-up. When I’m busy with work, unless it’s urgent, try not to disturb me.”
Pei Qi scooped up a piece of egg from his bowl, listening to the man’s words.
“Okay.” He nodded in agreement, “No need to bother with cooking, I usually eat in the cafeteria.”
Pei Qi knew that doctors were very busy, and he certainly didn’t want to trouble him to cook for him.
The appendectomy doctor across from him didn’t answer, finally picking up his first mouthful of noodles and chewing slowly.
Pei Qi didn’t speak either, concentrating on eating.
After finishing the noodles, it was almost 8:30.
The two of them went downstairs one after another, and the young man followed the man to a car parked by the roadside.
It was a black jade Panamera, a not-so-low-key car.
Pei Qi remembered that the appendectomy doctor was only three years older than him, but his financial strength was incredibly strong.
He couldn’t help but secretly wonder, when he was thirty, could he afford these tires?
Even if he could, it wouldn’t work. This car only uses 95 octane gas, he only drinks coupon-discounted drinks.
The interior was all leather, without any strange smell, only a faint scent of car perfume, smelling like cedar.
The process of getting the marriage certificate was similar to what was described online, but because the two of them weren’t familiar, the photos looked a little stiff.
The staff member took several photos: “Don’t be nervous, smile, get closer~”
Pei Qi straightened his white shirt and leaned closer to Guan Yue on his right.
Doctor Guan was like a furnace; even just touching his shoulder, he could feel the man’s body temperature.
“Yes, yes, smile,” the staff member pressed the shutter.
Pei Qi felt a flash of white light in his eyes, and soon, two marriage certificates with stamps were handed to them.
The staff member smiled and congratulated them: “Congratulations on your marriage.”
The young man’s reaction was always slow, and he was looking at the certificate.
Guan Yue beside him lowered his eyes and looked at the young man who was looking at the photo, his lips slightly pursed, replying: “Thank you.”
However, while he was answering, the little capybara beside him had already turned and walked out.
After checking that the information on the certificate was correct, Pei Qi put the marriage certificate into a file bag and habitually walked out alone. After seeing several intimately affectionate couples on the road, he realized that he might have forgotten something.
Oh…
He had forgotten to wait for the appendectomy doctor.
The young man stopped and turned his head.
The man behind him walked forward slowly with an expressionless face.
As they walked out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, Pei Qi said, “I’ll take the subway to work, goodbye, Doctor Guan.”
The man opened the car door, but it was the passenger seat door: “Is your workplace at Wenbo?”
Pei Qi nodded.
Guan Yue: “I’ll take you there.”
The young man waved his hand: “It’s okay… I…”
Guan Yue: “Get in.”
“Didn’t you say I shouldn’t bother you?” Pei Qi’s voice was a little weak, but he still asked the question.
“…” The man’s hand paused on the door handle, and after a few seconds, the peach blossom eyes behind the glasses were as calm as the sea: “It’s on the way, I’ll pass by Wenbo on my way home.”
“Then… thank you.” Pei Qi thanked him, slightly bending down to sit in the passenger seat.
