The man wiped very carefully, his hand slowly leaving the top of the capybara’s head.
The capybara nodded: “Mm.”
During the hour-long drive, the young man tilted his head and fell asleep again.
He was a little dazed when he got out of the car.
It wasn’t raining now, but the ground was still damp.
Pei Qi yawned and went to the trunk.
Having just woken up, his steps were a little unsteady, so by the time he got there, Guan Yue had already taken the luggage out.
“Thank you,” the young man reached out and took the handle.
Guan Yue: “Just one suitcase?”
“Mm,” the young man nodded.
The man pursed his lips slightly: “The elevator is over here.”
“Okay.” Pei Qi followed the man.
The lighting in the parking garage was dim. He had mild night blindness, and taking fish oil for months hadn’t improved it much.
Fortunately, it was level ground, so it didn’t matter if he couldn’t see clearly.
Yujiang Mansion was a high-end residential area in He City, built along the Oujiang River, with beautiful river views.
Pei Qi had considered buying here, but the prices were quite… even with the housing subsidy, it was still quite a burden, so he finally chose Yun Tai Apartment.
With a “ding,” the elevator opened.
The building had one elevator per unit, offering greater privacy and convenience.
The gray cast aluminum door that came into view inexplicably exuded a sense of solemnity.
Guan Yue walked forward, his finger touching the fingerprint lock.
Then he raised his eyes and stared straight at the young man.
Pei Qi seemed to understand that this look meant for him to come closer.
So he took two steps forward.
The man continued to stare at him, his sharp eyebrows slightly furrowed: “Hand.”
Pei Qi didn’t quite understand, but he still held out a hand, opened it, looked at his palm, and then at the back of his hand.
It was a perfectly normal hand.
Guan Yue: “…”
Suddenly, his index finger was caught and pulled forward.
His fingertip touched the fingerprint recognition area, and there were two “beeps,” a check mark appearing on the screen.
“Recorded,” the man said slowly, but he didn’t immediately release the young man’s finger.
So he was supposed to record his fingerprint.
Pei Qi smiled awkwardly, his dimples looking a little constrained.
A few seconds later, the skin on his finger was abruptly released.
The door opened at the same time, revealing a spacious living room.
As soon as the two of them stepped into the entrance hall, the lights in the living room automatically turned on.
On the wall-mounted shoe cabinet in the entrance hall, besides the decorative wood carvings, there were a pile of disinfectant alcohol and wet wipes.
Pei Qi knew that many medical workers were meticulous, so his hand holding the suitcase stiffened, thinking whether he should disinfect the wheels that had been rolling on the ground.
Fortunately, the wheels hadn’t been pulled into the door yet.
After the man changed his shoes, the capybara was still standing there in a daze, standing at attention.
So he took a pair of spring and summer slippers from the shoe cabinet: “Clean ones.”
“Thank you,” Pei Qi thanked him, pausing for two or three seconds, “I’ll wipe the suitcase with disinfectant wipes outside before coming in.”
As he spoke, he was already about to reach for the disinfectant wipes.
Guan Yue: “No need, just bring it in. Change your shoes, then go take a shower.”
The young man’s hand stopped halfway, thinking he still had to wipe it.
The man probably saw his intention and added calmly, “Clean yourself first.”
“Oh… then I’ll take a shower first,” Pei Qi lowered his head to change his shoes.
He thought these slippers would be much too big for him, but the size was perfect.
Just right, very comfortable.
The young man unpacked his suitcase, took out his change of clothes, and looked around.
Guan Yue: “There are bathrooms upstairs and downstairs. The downstairs one has a bathtub.”
Pei Qi: “Then… I’ll go upstairs.”
Guan Yue: “Mm.”
The young man carried his clothes and walked up the wooden arc-shaped stairs.
The upstairs space was also large.
It was more than enough for two people to live in.
Pei Qi turned on the shower, and the water of a suitable temperature poured down.
He seemed to have forgotten to bring shower gel.
Fortunately, there was some right there.
The young man squeezed two pumps into his palm and carefully applied it to his body.
The shower gel didn’t have a strong scent, and after washing, he felt refreshed.
After showering, it was already ten o’clock.
Pei Qi thought Guan Yue would go to rest first, and quietly went downstairs.
He was a little worried, he hadn’t asked where he was going to sleep.
The young man scratched his freshly washed hair, and looked up.
Guan Yue was sitting on the gray sofa in the living room.
He wasn’t used to having someone else in his house.
Moreover, he subconsciously thought the man had gone to rest.
So his heart skipped a beat.
“Let’s put our clothes in the same walk-in closet. I’ve left space for you. It’s late, let’s sleep first, we can tidy up tomorrow?” The man closed the laptop on his lap when he saw him come out.
Pei Qi: “Okay, then I…”
Guan Yue: “What?”
Pei Qi: “Which room am I sleeping in?”
Guan Yue: “The master bedroom upstairs.”
Pei Qi: “And you?”
If he slept in the master bedroom, wouldn’t that be taking over?
“…” The man pursed his lips and adjusted his glasses, “Of course, the master bedroom too.”
Pei Qi: “We… are sleeping in the same room?”
Guan Yue: “Otherwise?”
The young man blinked his round eyes, a hint of surprise flashing in his light brown pupils.
Then, he recovered.
He and Doctor Guan were married.
The standard operation was to sleep together.
Pei Qi nodded slowly: “Oh…”
“…” The man stood up and walked towards the young man, “Let’s go upstairs.”
“Wait a minute…” Pei Qi suddenly thought of a serious problem, “Maybe we should still sleep separately.”
Guan Yue: “Why?”
“I… I’m used to sleeping with the lights on. I can’t sleep without them.” This habit had led Pei Qi to carefully install a small lamp in his bed curtains during university, but he was still criticized by his roommates, saying he was a little strange.
Later, the young man tried sleeping with the lights off, but as soon as he turned off the lights, he couldn’t sleep, and his spirit was terrible the next day.
Gradually, he also felt that he might have a problem, so he went to see a doctor, but the doctor said this was probably a manifestation of a lack of security. If sufficient light could calm his mind, it was recommended not to forcefully change his habits. If he really wanted to change, he would need a course of treatment.
But his studies weren’t easy at that time, and he didn’t have time to go to the hospital every day, so this habit… had continued to this day.
To this day, it was deeply ingrained.
The man paused for a few seconds and asked, “Afraid of the dark?”
Pei Qi wasn’t sure if he was afraid of the dark. He didn’t feel apprehensive when walking at night, he just had mild night blindness and couldn’t see clearly.
“Mm… I just can’t sleep without the lights on.”
“I see,” Guan Yue stood in front of the young man, the warm white light scattered.
Outlining, setting off the man’s sharp features.
How could someone wearing glasses have such a high nose bridge?
The young man couldn’t help but look at him a few more times, pursing his lips: “I see what?”
“I see why you were clamoring to turn on the lights that night.”
The man’s tone was like a straight line without any waves, saying this suggestive sentence without any ups and downs.
Pei Qi’s ears suddenly turned red.
He didn’t remember this at all.
But… it didn’t stop him from feeling embarrassed.
With the lights on…
It was too…
“Even with someone beside you, you still can’t sleep with the lights off?”
The gaze on the young man’s face shifted slightly.
Falling gently on his red ears.
Pei Qi: “Mm…”
“I turned them off after that night, and you fell asleep,” the man’s gaze was also warmed by the red ears.
“I probably just passed out from exhaustion…” Pei Qi finished his analysis, only then realizing how…
His ears turned even redder, as if they were about to bleed.
The man in front of him didn’t speak, just staring straight at him.
But it was also possible that his words were difficult to respond to…
In desperation, he decided to take the initiative, so he touched his nose and carefully suggested: “I’ll sleep in the guest room. That way, it won’t affect our sleep quality.”
“The guest room hasn’t been cleaned yet. It needs to be tidied up,” the man didn’t insist, nor did he ask any more questions, “Come with me.”
Pei Qi nodded and followed him upstairs: “Okay, I’ll tidy it up.”
The guest room was opposite the master bedroom. Guan Yue took him inside.
Although it was a guest room, the area wasn’t small.
A large bed and an eye-catching floor-to-ceiling window.
By the window was a small glass-topped coffee table and a gray lazy sofa.
The curtains were dark-colored, as were the bedsheets.
All gray.
All the furniture and furnishings were covered with dust covers. The man went forward and removed them one by one.
“I can do it myself, Doctor Guan should go to rest,” Pei Qi remembered that Guan Yue had mentioned that he had to go on duty tomorrow and needed to rest early.
“It’s covered with dust covers, it should be fine. If necessary, there’s also a UV lamp in the house.”
“No need, I’ll just give it a quick sweep,” Pei Qi waved his hand, urging him, “Go rest.”
Guan Yue: “Mm.”
The man slowly walked over from the bedside. Pei Qi stood by the door, slightly sideways, ready to make way.
Guan Yue came straight towards him, his gait languid.
His slow pace stopped at the door, standing before the young man.
Pei Qi couldn’t help but feel his throat dry: “Wh… what’s wrong?”
“You just used…” the man said slowly, “My shower gel?”
Pei Qi was stunned for two seconds, tilted his head, lowered his head a few centimeters, and smelled himself.
Was the scent that obvious?
