Chapter 7
“Humph,” Zhan Xinyue scoffed, too lazy to waste her breath. She sat back in her chair leisurely, with a look that said there was no room for negotiation.
“100 yuan.” Chen Juxiang gritted her teeth.
Zhan Xinyue continued to look at her with a playful smile.
“200, no more!” Chen Juxiang made a big decision. They only had 355 yuan left in total. If she gave Zhan Xinyue 300, what would her youngest son’s tuition be?
“Auntie Chen, I want 300 yuan, not a penny less. If you don’t give it to me, I don’t care. I’ll just go live in the cowshed. But, your daughter Zhan Hongyan’s life will be ruined.”
Zhan Xinyue pointed outside. The moon was about to set, and a hint of dawn appeared in the eastern sky. “It’s almost dawn, you don’t have much time left.”
Zhan Hongyan became anxious. Before Chen Juxiang could speak, she whispered in her ear, “Mom, don’t be stingy with the 300 yuan. Grandpa appeared to me in a dream and told me that we can do business in two years. Li Jian has a knack for business. When he makes money, I’ll pay you back 3,000 yuan.”
“Really?” Chen Juxiang’s small eyes sparkled. 3,000 yuan was no small sum. It could be used to find a city wife for her son.
“Really, I can write you an IOU.” Zhan Hongyan promised.
With Zhan Hongyan’s guarantee, Chen Juxiang reluctantly took out thirty 10-yuan bills and handed them to Zhan Xinyue with a pained expression.
At this time, the sky was just beginning to lighten. Zhan Xinyue took the money and went out directly. The clothes she had in this family were all old clothes from Chen Juxiang and Zhan Hongyan. She didn’t want to take them, so she planned to buy new ones.
As soon as Zhan Xinyue left, Chen Juxiang started cursing, “What a sin! I raised a white-eyed wolf. If I had known this, I shouldn’t have picked her up.”
Huang Jianjun slapped the table, “Alright, others may not know, but I do. When my mother was alive, she told me. Back then, you and Zhan Aiguo couldn’t have children. You were afraid of being alone in your old age, so you picked up Zhan Xinyue.”
But they didn’t expect that they would get pregnant with Zhan Hongyan after only two years. They originally planned to abandon Zhan Xinyue, but Grandma Zhan felt sorry for her and took her in. Later, Grandma Zhan passed away, and Zhan Xinyue lived a life of servitude at the Zhan family.
If it weren’t for Sheng Tunan’s grandmother who occasionally gave Xinyue food, she would have died long ago.
After Huang Jianjun finished speaking, he was about to leave, but Chen Juxiang grabbed him by the arm, “Company Commander, are you just going to leave like that?”
“Don’t worry, I’ll go to the broadcasting room and announce that Zhan Aiguo is the squad leader.” Huang Jianjun waved his hand. This was a small matter, he could decide it alone.
“You ruined my daughter. You have to leave some money for medicine.” Chen Juxiang reached out. She had been extorted by Zhan Xinyue for 300 yuan, and now she wanted to get it back from Huang Jianjun.
Seeing that it was about to get bright, Huang Jianjun dared not stay any longer. He took two 10-yuan bills from his pocket and threw them in Chen Juxiang’s face.
This 20 yuan was originally for the widow. He had brought it back because he hadn’t gotten anything done yesterday.
“Oh my god, something terrible has happened! The company commander ruined Zhan Hongyan. Come quickly, help!…”
Suddenly, a loud and clear voice rang out. Huang Jianjun was startled and immediately ran to the back door, trying to escape.
However, the back door had already been locked by Zhan Xinyue. Huang Jianjun was like a headless fly, rushing towards the front door in a panic. Just then, Zhan Xinyue kicked open the front door and blocked the three of them inside the house.
“Zhan Xinyue, you little beast, how can you break your promise?” Chen Juxiang yelled angrily.
“Honesty is for good people. Are you lowlifes worthy of it?”
Zhan Xinyue wasn’t stupid. She still had to live in the Chang Hong brigade. Huang Jianjun was the company commander, and he had plenty of opportunities to make things difficult for her, both openly and secretly. Today, she had to send Huang Jianjun to prison!
