Su Ning thought about her past gaming experience and decided to hold off on spending skill points for now—they were just too precious.
Looking at her experience bar, she resolved to push for level 5 today.
“Su, are you ready to go?” Qiao Duoduo, still in bed, rubbed her sleepy eyes and looked at Su Ning.
“Get up. We only have the system toothbrush—no protective gear. It’ll be quick.” Su Ning found her waist-length hair the only real hassle. Without a hair tie, it was impossible to tie up. Qiao Duoduo, on the other hand, had short, ear-length hair, easy to manage.
“Duoduo, are we fighting zombies again today or trying a different direction, practicing on something else?”
Su Ning honestly felt yesterday was too much of a shortcut—there wasn’t real combat progress—but she didn’t want to risk too much just to level up, so she asked Duoduo.
“Let’s change. Zombies are disgusting, unpredictable, and not much practice. Let’s hunt rabbits—maybe we can get rabbit fur for scarves.” Qiao Duoduo had clearly thought it through. Fear was useless; they had to fight or retreat as needed.
After packing, they headed north of the safe zone toward the rabbits, following the rising sun.
The northern area had mostly grass and shrubs. Large trees only appeared sparsely near the safe zone’s edge—tree-climbing plans were clearly off the table.
“Are those… rabbits?” Su Ning saw a fluffy, pure white creature about a meter long and half a meter tall, running like a tiny tank. Could that really be a rabbit?
“Better than zombies, anyway.” Qiao Duoduo frowned. Fighting zombies had been revolting. With “nanny” Su Ning around, she refused to be bullied by a rabbit.
Qiao Duoduo nocked an arrow: “Su, dodge, prepare to heal me.”
As the rabbit’s health dropped by one-sixth, the tiny tank-like bunny charged. Qiao Duoduo dodged behind it and grabbed its ears, slamming it to the ground repeatedly.
Su Ning shivered—Duoduo seemed a bit ruthless.
By now, the rabbit was reduced to little more than a bloody carcass.
“Su, finish it! I’m aiming for that rabbit fur scarf today, or I’ll come back tomorrow.” Duoduo considered saying she wouldn’t back down, but opted for a safer phrasing—safety first.
Su Ning slammed it once more; the bunny lost its last bit of life.
“5 EXP, 10 copper coins, 5 cards, 2 plain steamed buns, 2 plain flower buns, 1 card for 20 pounds of raw rabbit meat.”
Looking at the rabbit meat card, Su Ning thought a moment, then stored the bunny corpse in her backpack—success.
“Duoduo, from now on, let’s keep every rabbit corpse. Nothing wasted. Each rabbit is a chance to get rich. I’ll store the cards; you keep the rabbits for now. Later, we’ll process them.” Su Ning’s eyes gleamed greedily.
“Got it, Su. But slamming the rabbit five times used 10 fullness points—hard work!” Qiao Duoduo checked her panel and felt slightly regretful—the fullness dropped too quickly.
“No problem, eat a flower bun. +30 fullness, doesn’t go to waste, perfect for labor.”
Duoduo could take down three rabbits per bun, Su Ning could take out fifteen without using MP—very efficient. They decided to rely more on physical attacks, not just skills.
The flower buns restored energy. System-crafted, so the taste was excellent.
While eating, Su Ning observed the grassy plains with scattered shrubs. Rabbits—white, black, gray, yellow—were evenly dispersed, easy to attack one by one.
They moved farther away to avoid crowds, then found a hidden spot and focused on hunting. Rabbit drops were consistent—flower buns, rabbit meat, and rabbit fur—bringing them closer to the coveted rabbit fur scarves.
Occasionally, Qiao Duoduo missed and got hit, losing 30 HP.
Su Ning immediately cast a magical blessing, filling her HP. Duoduo then resumed slamming the rabbits.
They realized how valuable a “nanny” was. Duoduo’s HP was 160—losing almost one-fifth in one hit. Ordinary white card food like buns and vegetable buns only restored +5 to +7 HP.
White card medicine existed, sold in the safe zone pharmacy, but +10 HP was insufficient to recover the 30-point impact damage.
Also, they couldn’t eat all their food or fullness would drop, causing HP loss. Players truly were poor—having a healer and reliable drops was critical.
Still, Su Ning and Duoduo continued hunting without interruption.
At level 4, they finally got a new equipment drop:
Green Card: Moonshadow Bow
Bowstring made from rabbit sinew, bamboo limbs, grip wrapped in rabbit fur. Definitely a collectible.
Stats: +3 Agility, +5 Strength
“Wow! Su, is this a rare drop? A mini-legendary!” Qiao Duoduo gushed incoherently.
“No way, I have to show Huo Yang. Haha~”
Indeed, it was a mini-legendary for this stage. Su Ning was happy but also worried—her staff would be reclaimed at level 5.
“Yes, we still need to grind. We’re close to level 5, and I haven’t replaced the staff. Without it, no healing—bad news.”
Unfortunately, the second equipment drop was:
White Card: Dagger
Ordinary dagger
Stats: +2 Agility
A pathetic dagger. Su Ning stored it in her backpack, planning to practice rabbit skinning with Duoduo tonight.
Checking experience, four more rabbits would get them to level 5.
The sun was slanting—time to level up and head back. Su Ning eagerly anticipated the staff.
“Beep: Congratulations, player! You have reached level 5. Receive a promotion package. Return to the safe zone; Madam Li wants to discuss promotion matters.”
“Beep: Congratulations, player! You reached level 5. The novice staff has been reclaimed. Please continue leveling.”
