Doomsday Game: Life Expert Chapter 8

Chapter 8: Unequal Treatment

Third floor of the inn, a standard double room.

Su Ning took a moment to reassess her current situation.

Character Panel: Points to allocate increased from 2 to 5—1 point per level, plus 1 extra point for reaching level 5.

Duoduo hadn’t returned yet, so it wasn’t wise to redistribute items in the backpack. She ignored it for now.

Master-Disciple System
Master: Shangguan Yufen (Madam Li)
Taught Skills: Sericulture, spinning, weaving, dyeing, sewing, embroidery

Learning Progress:

  • Sericulture (Apprentice): 0/100
  • Spinning (Apprentice): 0/100
  • Weaving (Apprentice): 0/100
  • Dyeing (Apprentice): 0/100
  • Sewing (Apprentice): 0/100
  • Embroidery (Apprentice): 0/100

Seeing a long list of skills all at 0/100, Su Ning realized that the path to mastery would be difficult. Truly, there is no limit to learning!

Breeding System

  • Slot 1: Silkworm (Incubating)
Description: Ordinary silkworm with strong reproduction abilities; enjoys mulberry leaves.
  • Slot 2: (Empty)
  • Slot 3: (Empty)
  • Slot 4: (Empty)
  • Slot 5: (Empty)

A pretty solid system—it could hold up to five creatures—but how many more could it hold? How big was the breeding space? That would need to be explored slowly.

After reviewing everything, Su Ning’s head still ached. Collecting 20 cotton flowers was doable, but 20 pairs of cockroach wings? For a healer with no staff? Just thinking about it was exhausting.

Suddenly, a bizarre idea flashed through Su Ning’s mind.

If sewing could create equipment, could she also try crafting a staff?

Without hesitation, Su Ning pulled out a white-card piece of wood—the closest thing she had to a staff, since she had only ever seen one.

Taking a section of wood, she drew her small white dagger and began carving boldly. Once it was roughly shaped, she carefully etched a few simple patterns.

“Beep! Congratulations, player! Crafting system activated. Reminder: Arm yourself with your own strength!”
“Beep! Weapon successfully crafted. Weapon check: Staff. Assigning weapon attributes…”
“Beep! Weapon attribute assignment successful. Please name your weapon.”

The first staff—“All the Way”—would accompany her on an unknown path.

“Beep! Naming successful.

  • Weapon: All the Way
  • Grade: White
  • Level Requirement: 5
  • Attributes: Intelligence +3, Constitution +2
  • Crafter: Su Ning

Wow! ⊙⊙ Using her own strength to arm herself—amazing! And her first crafted weapon wasn’t bad at all.

Su Ning didn’t hesitate and opened the crafting system. Every cell in her body buzzed with excitement.

Crafting System

  • Crafting Skill: Apprentice
  • Crafting Experience: 1/100
  • History of Crafted Items: Staff “All the Way”
  • Crafting Assistance: Refining hemp fiber, peeling wood, extracting silk, weaving, dyeing, gemstone cutting, metal refining, etc.

A powerful set of crafting tools—most of which Su Ning had never seen or heard of.

After calming her excitement, she noticed the rabbit pelts still waiting to be processed—over twenty of them.

Entering the bathroom, Su Ning took out her dagger and the rabbit carcasses and began skinning. Though careful, her lack of experience meant she ruined three pelts. Luckily, the remaining nine were intact.

Putting them into the system: a complete rabbit pelt required 1 hour of tanning; a damaged one took 45 minutes. She would have to wait until tomorrow.

While bathing and relaxing, Su Ning started a video call with her mother, knowing Duoduo would be back soon.

Her mother was a level 3 human summoner, and her father a level 4 human martial artist.

As expected, Su Ning’s worries had come true. Her kind, naïve father had been tricked again, nearly losing his life—but fortunately, only his novice weapon was taken.

Su Ning quietly memorized the name: Xia Gang. This guy almost got her father killed—and stole his equipment.

Before the apocalypse, Xia Gang had been a close friend of her father. Who could’ve imagined that in just a few days, he would turn murderous?

The situation started simply: Su Ning had sent most of her supplies to her mother, who then used some to replenish her father during battles.

Naïve as ever, her father shared with Xia Gang, who, seeing her father often had rare items, demanded more. When her father refused—because he didn’t have enough—Xia Gang apparently held a grudge and tried to throw him into a horde of zombies.

Fortunately, her father dodged the fatal blow, though Xia Gang managed to steal the novice sword in the process.

Her mother specifically instructed Su Ning not to mention it again—her father would only get upset. In the safe zone, PvP wasn’t allowed, and Su Ning’s uncles and cousins were pursuing Xia Gang. Anyone leaving the safe zone would be met with swift justice.

Su Ning’s grandmother had nine children—six sons and three daughters. Her father was the eighth. These relatives had also added to Su Ning’s extended family network, all concentrated near the same novice zone. With so many relatives and strong bonds, large-scale group fights could be easily managed—and without legal repercussions. Su Ning estimated her father would be fine soon.

She briefly explained her master, breeding, and crafting system progress to her mother.

After ending the call, Duoduo had finished her shower—time truly flew when happy.

“Su, how’s your task?” Duoduo looked exhausted.

“20 cotton flowers, 20 pairs of cockroach wings… sigh,” Su Ning groaned at the thought.

“That’s so hard?” Duoduo looked puzzled. “The teahouse task I got was to chat with an old man. After meeting him, he claimed I had cooking talent and wanted to take me as a disciple, to teach me to cook.

You know my skills in the kitchen—I didn’t dare imagine it. I was afraid I’d anger the old man, and then it’d be messy, and he’d pester me.”

“Wait—someone wanted to take you as a disciple, and you refused?” Su Ning’s eyes widened. How could master-disciple experiences differ so much?

“I didn’t refuse successfully. So I tried to half-heartedly start the master-disciple system. My fake master then forced me to cook to show him.

I almost blew up the teahouse kitchen and infuriated him. Then the teahouse owner and my master decided I’d stay three days to learn knife skills and heat control. After three days, if I could satisfy my master, the task would be complete.”

Duoduo looked worn out just recounting it.

But Su Ning felt that the difference in treatment was huge. Sniffle… “I apprenticed under Innkeeper Madam Li. My goal was sewing, as well as sericulture, spinning, weaving, dyeing, and embroidery—to better craft equipment.

Before you returned, I even crafted “All the Way,” filling the weapon gap. The breeding and crafting systems are powerful.”

“Crafting weapons? That’s impressive! I’ll find a chance to learn arrow-making, too. But I only started the cooking system. I can’t anymore—sleep first. Tomorrow, after finishing three days, I’ll go with you to hunt cockroaches.” Duoduo, truly exhausted, quickly fell asleep.

“Goodnight, Duoduo.”
