This time, Su You wasn’t just happy about having a stockpiling space—if even living creatures like animals could enter, didn’t that mean she could hoard supplies endlessly and hide in this space with Big Orange forever?
Su You quickly asked the system.
The system replied: 【Yes, animals, like humans, can survive inside the base space. However, the value of life is priceless, so please note, host: the survival base cannot evaluate the worth of living beings nor provide rebates for them.】
Su You nodded repeatedly. “That’s fine, that’s fine. As long as I can bring them into the base, never mind rebates—I’d pay extra myself.”
In those three years of the apocalypse, Su You had come to understand just how important a safe, solid base with food and clothing was to ordinary people.
All the more so for small animals.
At the beginning of the apocalypse, there were torrential rains and typhoons, followed by earthquakes. Then the planet quickly entered a mini ice age. Temperatures plummeted overnight, and afterward came endless blizzards, hailstorms, and bizarre plant and animal mutations.
When she thought of the end, Su You’s heart sank.
With the arrival of animal mutations, humans too began to mutate.
Mutated humans experienced massive changes in their physiques and even gained all sorts of abilities.
Some became strong and sturdy, capable of lifting thousands of pounds, unafraid of wind, snow, or cold—merely physical mutations.
Some mastered wind, fire, thunder, or lightning, becoming powerful ability-wielding mutants.
Some could accomplish incredible feats using nothing but thought.
As if Heaven were playing a cruel joke, these abilities didn’t just appear randomly—when ability users were killed, their powers condensed into little orbs of light, which could be picked up and inherited.
Collected abilities could be traded, devoured, and inherited by others.
Su You’s ability was material restoration—she could restore damaged items to their original state.
For example, moldy food could be restored to freshness, broken equipment repaired good as new, and with enough mental energy, she could even restore damaged houses.
But because she wanted her father and the other two family members to live better, she was inadvertently discovered by Liu Qin and had no choice but to admit her ability.
Who would have thought Liu Qin’s scheme was to kill her, seize her ability, and hand it over to the people at the mountaintop base to gain entry there.
Su You sneered. Liu Qin didn’t even stop to think what kind of people those at the mountaintop base were—wolves who eat flesh without spitting out bones. Surely she wouldn’t meet a good end.
But Su You still felt unwilling. In this lifetime, she would never let Liu Qin live in peace.
And she didn’t even need to act herself. In her previous life, while she was still around, she had stockpiled enough supplies during the rainy season to survive the storms, typhoons, and earthquakes, living for another year and a half.
Later, because of the sudden cold snap, their earthquake-damaged house became uninhabitable under the snow and ice, forcing them to move into a tiny air-raid shelter.
Thinking of this, Su You felt a bit better. She planned to seize the time and stock up enough supplies before the torrential rains came.
Before that, she needed to move the house’s belongings into her space.
Su You casually tossed in a bag of cat food.
The system detected the item: 【One bag of cat food, value 19.9 yuan, hundredfold rebate, total 1990 yuan.】
Su You’s eyes lit up. She went to the storage room and began piling in items:
【One case of self-heating hotpot, value 59.9, hundredfold rebate, total 5990 yuan.】
【One case of self-heating rice, value 69.9, hundredfold rebate, total 6990 yuan.】
【One bundle of chili oil noodles, value 18.9, hundredfold rebate, total 1890 yuan.】
【One case of instant sour-spicy noodles, value 59.9, hundredfold rebate, total 5990 yuan.】
As each item went in, the system’s magnetic female voice rang out:
【Wealth-Treasure credited: 1990 yuan.】
【Wealth-Treasure credited: 5990 yuan.】
【Wealth-Treasure credited: 6990 yuan.】
【Wealth-Treasure credited: 1890 yuan.】
【Wealth-Treasure credited: 5990 yuan.】
Listening to the credits roll in, Su You worked even harder.
It took about half an hour to empty the storage room.
She had lived alone before and liked hoarding during big sales. She had stocked up on everything—small things like toothpaste, toothbrushes, batteries, soy sauce, and spices; big things like laundry detergent, toilet paper, sanitary pads, lotions, shower gels, skincare, cosmetics, snacks, instant foods. Plus Big Orange’s cat litter, cat food, canned food, toys, and more.
All of that had cost quite a lot, but when she saw the credited amount, Su You was shocked.
It added up to over 3.5 million yuan. By rebate calculation, that meant her stockpiles had only cost about 30,000 yuan.
But it was exactly because of these supplies that she had felt secure during the apocalypse.
Su You left the storage room and kept putting away the things from the living room and bedroom. Since items could be taken out again after rebate, she might as well pile up more funds first and accumulate capital.
By the time she cleared out the whole house, Su You’s account had grown by 10 million yuan—this was the rebate system’s conversion result.
Looking at her now-empty home, Su You actually felt relieved.
At this moment, the system spoke:
【Base upgrade: Lv1 → Lv2】
【Space Modules: Storage Space (1000 sqm), Rest Area (1000 sqm)】
【Function Unlocked: Space Copy. Real-world buildings can be completely copied into the base space.】
With the system’s voice, a glowing panel appeared before her. In the upper left corner was the white Lv2 badge. In the base module, aside from the bright storage warehouse, a rest area lit up as well.
Su You stepped into the base space, entering the rest area. It, too, was made of solid black walls with no ceiling in sight, spanning roughly 1000 square meters.
The system said: “The host can freely arrange the rest area and place residential buildings here.”
Su You’s eyes lit up. “Can I copy my house over?”
The system answered: “Of course. The rest area can be arranged however the host desires.”
As soon as the words fell, Su You’s surroundings shifted—it was her very own empty house, bright windows and all, exactly as before, filling her with a deep sense of familiarity.
“Don’t worry, host. You’re still inside the base. The view outside the windows has been beautified with simulations, capable of mimicking all kinds of landscapes and day-night cycles.”
Su You’s heart surged with joy, pounding wildly.
She realized just how heaven-defying this ability was.
If entire buildings could be moved into the base, this system was far more powerful than she had imagined.
Su You thought of something. “Is there a limit on how long I can stay inside?”
The system replied: “There is none. The base rest area is available to you 24 hours a day.”
Amazing! Truly worthy of being called a survival base. When the apocalypse arrived, as long as she had enough supplies, she could hide inside and completely avoid danger.
When she came out, Big Orange rubbed against her legs, meowing twice.
Su You scooped up the fat cat.
“Big Orange, are you hungry? I’ll get you a can.”
She reached out and pulled out a can of meat.
Big Orange’s eyes lit up at the sight, leaping excitedly, impatient for her to open it.
As soon as Su You popped the lid, Big Orange pounced.
In no time at all, the entire can was gone.
Gurgle, gurgle.
Watching the orange cat, Su You realized she was hungry too.
She grabbed a bag of Brazilian barbecue-flavored chips to tide herself over, then planned to go out for a real meal.
Just the thought of delicious food outside made her mouth water.
In the apocalypse, food and clothing were scarce. Forget hotpot, barbecue, and steak—even a bag of instant noodles would be worth sky-high prices. Money was useless then; people preferred trading useful goods.
Su You changed clothes and prepared to head out.
Just then, a knock came at the door. “Youyou, are you home?”
It was a middle-aged woman’s voice. “It’s Aunt Liu. I came specially to see you.”
Liu Qin.
The moment she heard that voice, Su You’s eyes filled with cold killing intent and loathing. Her fists clenched unconsciously.
A life-and-death grudge—utterly irreconcilable.
But it wasn’t the apocalypse yet. She couldn’t afford to throw her life away for Liu Qin and stir up trouble.
No, she wanted Liu Qin to live—to suffer every torment of the end times before she died.
With that thought, Su You opened the security door.
There stood a slightly plump woman in a long dress, arms full of shopping bags, sweat streaming down her face.
Then her wrinkled face stretched into a smile. “I knew it—today’s Sunday. Youyou must be home.”
