The moment those words were spoken, the students in the back seat showed obvious panic. After getting into the car, they had already sent messages home, but hadn’t received any replies yet.
After a brief discussion, a girl named Selena mustered her courage and stepped forward.
“Miss…”
A calm voice came from the front, “My surname is Su.”
Selena paused for a moment, then continued, “Miss Su, thank you for helping us in time. I just contacted my family, and the reply I got was that the Glenor Community hasn’t experienced major chaos yet. Could you please take me and my classmates there? My butler will be waiting to meet us.”
The others also expressed agreement.
Through the rearview mirror, Su You looked at the girl. Among these five people, it seemed that only she and another boy who appeared to be the leader remained calm.
She quickly searched for the location of that community on the map and found that it wasn’t far. She nodded in agreement, “Alright.”
“Amber, let’s head there first.”
Amber responded, “Got it.”
Along the way, Su You saw thick smoke rising from factories, crashed vehicles, dead bodies, and infected people who had completely lost consciousness. They huddled together, tearing into corpses like packs of hunting hyenas.
One of the victims was still alive, a man screaming in agony—until his voice abruptly stopped. Then his body convulsed violently as if electrocuted. Finally, his limbs twisted at bizarre angles, propping him up as he stood—transformed into one of the infected.
Noticing their car, he charged at them madly.
Amber didn’t swerve or dodge. Instead, she drove straight into him. With a loud bang, the zombie was flung more than ten meters away, screeching furiously, still trying to stand.
Meanwhile, other infected along the road spotted the vehicle and rushed after it, some even clawing their way onto the roof.
Amber pressed harder on the gas pedal, accelerating to the limit before finally shaking them off.
The situation was dire.
That very morning, the entire city had been running in an orderly fashion. Yet in just half a day, it had turned into a terrifying city of death, filled with monsters.
Su You outwardly remained calm. After all, she had fought in treacherous bases and battled mutated beasts and plants before. But seeing zombies here was beyond her expectations.
In her previous life, the world had never seen such a large-scale infection. What was going on?
Checking the internet, Su You noticed something unusual—Snowe City’s IP seemed blocked by some invisible force. No posts about the infected could be found. In other places, posts about zombies would flash up for barely a second before being instantly removed.
She quickly understood: news and calls for help were being deliberately censored. This was the authorities trying to suppress the incident. The military had probably already been deployed.
This city had only five to six million people—not very large.
And since the distance between cities here was vast, with only a few major roads connecting them, the military could easily seal them off. No one would escape.
In her previous life, she had been far across the ocean, in a safe city shielded by distance. Naturally, she hadn’t known what had really happened here.
Suddenly, Su You remembered something she had once read.
Snowe City wasn’t among A Country’s largest cities. Its early reliance on heavy industry had left severe pollution. Newer industries had long since relocated, leaving it unattractive for new residents. But its claim to fame was a biotech company—housing a Level 4 biological laboratory.
Confidential reports claimed the lab’s researchers were developing a new anti-aging viral injection. It had reached clinical stages, with Phase II trials recruiting large numbers of medical volunteers.
Could it be… that something went wrong there?
There was no hard evidence—just her suspicion. She couldn’t make a definitive judgment.
But one thing was certain: the virus couldn’t be airborne. Otherwise, she, Amber, and the four students in the car would have already turned.
Whether it could spread through water remained to be seen.
Soon, the vehicle arrived at Glenor Community.
Despite its name, it was actually a cluster of villas built on a lake island.
Security guards still patrolled at the entrance, checking vehicles. Even amidst chaos, order here hadn’t collapsed.
At first, they seemed wary of the unfamiliar car. But once they saw Selena’s face, the guards immediately let them through.
The place was beautifully landscaped—lawns, perennial flowers, lush greenery, and broad palm leaves.
Elegant European-style villas dotted the hillside, neatly arranged, stunning in appearance.
Following Selena’s directions, Amber parked in front of the largest white villa halfway up the hill.
At the entrance, an elderly butler with white hair was already waiting. His face lit up when he saw Selena.
“Miss, thank goodness you’re safe! The master received your message and is waiting inside. Didn’t the driver pick you up?”
Selena shook her head sadly. “From the tone of his last call, I could tell he was in danger. I waited for a long time, but he never arrived. I fear… he didn’t make it.”
“What a pity.” The devout butler made the sign of the cross over his chest, sorrow etched on his face.
Selena added, “I brought some classmates back. Their parents haven’t replied yet, so please arrange rooms for them temporarily. Don’t worry—they aren’t infected.”
She then gestured toward the two women standing nearby. “And these ladies and gentleman are the ones who brought me home.”
Selena once again sincerely thanked Su You and Amber, and kindly suggested, “The outside isn’t safe yet. If you don’t have anywhere else to go, please stay at my home for now.”
Su You immediately refused. “No need. My home is nearby—I’ll head back.”
The blonde girl seemed genuinely kind, but Su You didn’t need to rely on strangers. She had her base—at worst, she could retreat there with Amber.
But just then, the master of the villa came out, leaning on a cane.
When Su You saw his familiar Chinese face, her brows arched slightly. What a coincidence—to meet someone she knew in a foreign land.
Li Xiannian had rushed out as soon as he heard his granddaughter had returned safely.
Not only was Selena unharmed, but he was also stunned to see a familiar young woman.
But with her sharp, dashing appearance so different from before, he hesitated. “You are… Miss Su?”
Su You curved her lips in a small smile and nodded. “That’s right, it’s me, sir.”
Recognizing the man she had traded supermarket and pharmacy supplies with not long ago, Su You raised her brows.
“Sir, less than half a month has passed, and yet here we meet again under such circumstances. Seems fate really has its ways.”
