Chapter 7: Taking a Disciple

“Do I really have to say it?” Jiang Jie asked with a bitter expression.

“Well, what do you think?” Dugu Bo raised an eyebrow, his face full of mockery as he looked at Jiang Jie.

Thus, Jiang Jie had no choice but to begin his performance.

He recounted his story, starting from the age of three when he could remember things. He described how he struggled for daily meals because his beautiful mother had been violated by an unknown soul master, who then abandoned her. His mother raised Jiang Jie alone but died of a lingering illness when he was three years old.

Jiang Jie’s goal was to become stronger and eventually find his birth father to kill him. He explained that his surname, Jiang, followed his mother, and his given name, Jie, was to signify the calamity he intended to bring upon the soul master who couldn’t control his lower desires.

He painted a tragic and sympathetic picture of his life.

Dugu Bo could never have imagined that within the body of a six-year-old boy was the soul of a twenty-four-year-old who played dirty. Despite some flaws in Jiang Jie’s acting, there were no major mistakes.

By the end of his tale, Dugu Bo was completely taken aback.

On the side, Dugu Yan’s large eyes were filled with sympathy.

Something in Jiang Jie’s story must have struck a chord with Dugu Bo, a man known for his ruthless nature. Dugu Bo sighed slightly, his gaze softening as he said, “Another unfortunate child.”

Jiang Jie was dumbfounded by Dugu Bo’s reaction.

What’s going on with Dugu Bo? Has someone taken over his body?
Such an expression on your face looks incredibly out of place!

“I am Dugu Bo, a Title Douluo,” Dugu Bo said, stroking his beard as nine soul rings slowly rose from beneath his feet, his expression turning serious. “Jiang Jie, would you be willing to become my disciple?”

Would he?

Of course!

Only a fool wouldn’t seize this opportunity. At worst, he could call him Master while Dugu Bo could call him grandson-in-law. Each to their own!

“Master, please accept this disciple’s bow!” Jiang Jie said earnestly, clasping his hands and bowing at a ninety-degree angle.

“Hahaha, good!” Dugu Bo laughed heartily. Although he wasn’t skilled at teaching disciples, he was delighted to accept a soul master with innate full soul power and a rare weapon spirit as his disciple.

Especially since this disciple hadn’t even started formal cultivation or acquired his first soul ring yet. He was a diamond in the rough.

With careful sculpting, he was bound to become successful.

“Congratulations, Grandpa, on acquiring such a fine disciple!” Dugu Yan said sweetly, her eyes curved with joy as she congratulated Dugu Bo.

“Indeed, today is a double celebration. Not only will you obtain your second soul ring and advance to a Grandmaster, but I also gain an excellent disciple,” Dugu Bo said with exuberance.

Only then did Dugu Bo remember that Dugu Yan had yet to absorb her soul ring.

“Yan Yan, quickly kill that snake and absorb its soul ring,” Dugu Bo said with a smile.

Dugu Yan nodded vigorously, then took a short sword and prepared to strike the snake Dugu Bo had immobilized.

“Wait!” Jiang Jie suddenly stopped her.

Hearing Jiang Jie’s words, both Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan were slightly taken aback and turned to look at him with some confusion.

Why did Jiang Jie stop her?

Because Dugu Yan’s skills were too lacking!

Her first skill, Bi Phosphorous Red Poison, a poison of excitement, could enhance a soul master’s perception, stimulate their nerves for support, and amplify an enemy’s pain.

Her second skill, Bi Phosphorous Blue Poison, a poison of lethargy, could reduce a soul master’s perception and pain, significantly boosting a defense-type soul master’s defense while slowing down an enemy.

These two soul skills were complementary and used for control, reflecting Dugu Bo’s path as a control-type poison master.
But what was the use of this?

Dugu Yan’s martial spirit was a Bi Phosphorous Snake, not a Bi Phosphorous Snake King. The difference was vast. Using Dugu Bo’s soul rings for her would achieve, at best, half the effect.

“What is it?” Dugu Bo asked with a frown.

Although he didn’t know why Jiang Jie interrupted, Jiang Jie’s boldness made Dugu Bo slightly displeased.

After all, Jiang Jie was a newly accepted disciple, and their bond wasn’t strong yet. Interrupting Dugu Yan’s action of killing the soul beast so abruptly could easily irk Dugu Bo.

“This snake’s soul ring isn’t suitable for Miss Yan’s martial spirit,” Jiang Jie said hesitantly, looking at Dugu Yan.

“I’m Dugu Yan,” she said clearly, with no other thoughts, her voice crisp.

“Miss Yan’s martial spirit isn’t suitable for this snake’s soul ring,” Jiang Jie said, nodding to Dugu Yan and then looking at Dugu Bo.

Miss Yan?

The name sounds quite nice.

Dugu Yan smiled, accepting Jiang Jie’s form of address.

“Why do you say that? My family’s martial spirit has always been configured with such soul rings. How can it be wrong?” Dugu Bo narrowed his eyes, waiting for Jiang Jie’s explanation.

He wanted to see what Jiang Jie would say.

Confidence in youth was good, but too much could become arrogance. Speaking without understanding was a bad trait, and Dugu Bo considered using this to give Jiang Jie a lesson.

Jiang Jie raised his hands, revealing his martial spirit, the Fiery Wave Blood Blade: “My martial spirit senses that Miss Yan’s martial spirit isn’t compatible with this soul beast’s soul ring.”

“Oh?” Dugu Bo was surprised.

Martial spirit sensing?

Is that even possible?

“Master, did you choose this soul beast based on your own experience of obtaining soul rings?” Jiang Jie asked.

Dugu Bo nodded, “Yes.”

“Then it’s clear. Miss Yan’s martial spirit isn’t as potent as yours. Using your method to configure her soul rings won’t achieve the same effect. If she follows your path, she might never reach your level,” Jiang Jie said, shaking his head helplessly.

Dugu Bo’s expression changed drastically, looking at Jiang Jie in shock.

He initially thought Jiang Jie was merely brash, but his words struck like a hammer, shattering Dugu Bo’s rigid thinking.

But the more pressing question was…

“How do you know all this?” Dugu Bo asked, his expression serious.

Something was off!

A six-year-old child, no matter how gifted, wouldn’t know so much about the soul master world and its theories without extensive exposure!
