Xie Wanxing and the others finally made it to the fifth floor, only to find Yuan Xier and Xiao Jia already waiting there.
The four of them were a bit surprised. They thought they were fast enough.
Xiao Jia had been waiting for over half an hour and was so bored that she started singing. When she saw them, she waved excitedly as if she had seen relatives, “Finally, you’re here!”
Xie Wanxing was about to greet her, but his gaze was focused on the object on the ground, which looked like a dead fish.
If he wasn’t mistaken, that was also an unfortunate staff ghost from the haunted school.
Xie Wanxing: “…”
He pointed to the staff member on the ground and calmly asked, “Who did this?”
Yuan Xier raised her hand casually, “I did it. I found a piece of rope while looking for props, so I tied it up.”
Fu Wenshan shot her an approving glance.
After the events of the past few hours, Xiao Jia had completely become a fan of Yuan Xier. She excitedly chattered to Xie Wanxing and Zhou Ying, “Wow, you guys don’t know how amazing Yuan Xier is. She tore down a wall bare-handed, not afraid of ghosts at all. When she saw a ghost, she even chased after it. Later, a staff member begged her not to chase after them anymore! Hahaha!”
Xie Wanxing and Zhou Ying looked at Yuan Xier with mixed feelings. Yuan Xier had the typical appearance of a cold beauty, a former model with perfect proportions, tall and glamorous, the type that would surely evoke feelings of cherishing and pity in men.
Yet she turned out to be a female warrior who could tear down walls bare-handed.
Thinking about their own timidity, the two of them exchanged a complex glance.
…..
Yuan Xier calmly accepted the admiration of everyone. She took out the two props she had found, “These are what I found on the fourth and fifth floors, a small drum and a hairpin. What about you? Have you found any props?”
Xie Wanxing nodded, “Yes, we found them. All four of our props come with written information, so we’ve pieced together the stories that happened in the school.”
All four props were in his possession.
He was about to take them out when the dim fifth floor suddenly lit up, one lamp after another, illuminating the entire corridor brightly.
Accustomed to the dark atmosphere, everyone squinted at the sudden brightness.
And in the brief seconds, the door to the conference room behind them slowly opened.
Xie Wanxing squinted. Although he was startled by the opening of the conference room door, he initially assumed that it would be empty inside, or maybe host Han Jiujin would be there.
But upon closer inspection, he saw a figure standing behind the open door, wearing a blue long robe, with delicate features and extremely fair skin, quietly gazing at them.
“Holy crap,” Zhou Ying couldn’t help but blurt out.
Because standing behind the door was none other than the man in the green robe who had frightened them at the entrance to the art room.
Xiao Jia also exclaimed, “We saw this person on the fourth floor.”
The man in the green robe remained expressionless. He stood behind the door, his ancient attire contrasting with the modern school, but his ghostly aura matched the ghostly school.
“I’ve been waiting for you for a long time, six mediums,” the man in the green robe’s voice was somewhat hoarse. He scanned each person’s face and opened the door, “You’ve brought what I want. I allow you to enter.”
The six guests exchanged glances. Zhou Ying whispered to Wu Ran, “Do you think he’s really a staff member in disguise? He looks pretty handsome. Could he be an actor too?”
Wu Ran patted his head, “Why do you care so much? It’s almost four in the morning. Solving the task and getting out as soon as possible is what matters.”
·
The six people entered one after another.
Compared to the eerie ghost school outside, the conference room was bright and clean, with a long table for meetings next to the sofa, enough for six people to sit around.
But no one sat at the meeting table. Everyone squeezed onto the more comfortable sofas, leaving the man in the green robe sitting alone at the head of the long table, looking very much like a stray.
They were crowded together.
Xie Wanxing was squeezed together with Fu Wenshan, half of his body stacked on top of Fu Wenshan’s. If it were yesterday, he would have kept some distance with disdain, but after experiencing a series of scares along the way, he was already very calm, even a bit accustomed to it.
Fu Wenshan glanced down at Xie Wanxing, who was almost sitting on him, raised an eyebrow, and said nothing.
The man in the green robe: “…”
What’s wrong with these people?
Nevertheless, he dutifully put on a noble and cold face, and delivered his lines, “Mediums, I should thank all six of you for coming. I have been trapped in this school for a long time. If it weren’t for you, I might not have woken up until now.”
Xie Wanxing’s mind flashed back to the coffin in the art room, which was empty. It seemed to be the place that trapped this man.
He couldn’t help but glance under the table again to confirm that the man really had feet.
“I know your task is to rescue the spirits of this school, but unfortunately, as long as I’m here, all the grudges of this school will never be resolved!” The man in the green robe revealed a cold smile, even under the bright lights, he still looked like a vengeful spirit.
After listening to the villain’s speech, the six fell silent for a moment.
Then they began to discuss in front of this boss.
Fu Wenshan said, “According to what he said, if we knock him unconscious, will the mission end?”
Wu Ran nodded thoughtfully, “I think so.”
Zhou Ying: “Huh? Is it that simple? So straightforward.”
Xiao Jia and Yuan Xier also exchanged glances, somewhat skeptical.
Xiao Jia asked, “I don’t think the program team advocates violence… But could they be asking us to tie this man up, even if we find the culprit.”
Everyone suddenly looked enlightened. It sounded reasonable.
It solves the problem without hurting anyone.
Six pairs of bright eyes landed on the man in the green robe.
Fu Wenshan and Wu Ran’s baseball bats also began to twitch.
Now they were six to one, not afraid of losing.
The man in the green robe didn’t know what expression to put on his face anymore.
In his acting career, he had never encountered such a big challenge. Who the hell invited these damn rogues?!
“Wait a minute,” seeing that these six people really looked like they were going to tie him up, the man in the green robe couldn’t bear it any longer and stopped them. He stopped pretending and quickly explained his task, “It’s not impossible for me to free the spirits of this school, but my conditions must be met.”
Seeing that these people were unwilling to give up, he added quickly, “Even if you tie me up, it will be useless if you don’t meet my wishes.”
The six showed disappointed expressions and all lay back on the sofa, urging him like elders, “Then speak up.”
The man in the green robe was so angry that his face turned pale. He almost gritted his teeth and said, “First, answer my question. Have you guessed my identity? This is the first question.”
This question was too simple; Xie Wanxing didn’t even bother to answer.
Zhou Ying raised his hand like an elementary school student, and Xie Wanxing didn’t bother to compete with him, so he let Zhou Ying answer.
The next moment, he heard Zhou Ying say, “Are you the guardian spirit of the school?”
The whole room fell silent.
Xiao Jia and Yuan Xier, because they only had two props, temporarily did not understand the situation.
But the other three, relying on the four props, had pieced together the old story.
Xie Wanxing looked at Wu Ran sympathetically. It must have been hard for you to carry this idiot all the way.
Wu Ran waved his hand, indicating not to mention the past.
“You are Luo Xiaoxing’s lover, right?” Xie Wanxing said, “She wrote in her diary that she met a non-human boy, she really liked him, received the apricot flower bracelet he gave her, and was very happy.”
Zhou Ying looked confused, “Huh, is that so?”
But the man in the green robe’s reaction confirmed that this was the correct answer.
As soon as the name Luo Xiaoxing came out, a layer of sadness appeared on the man in the green robe’s face, as if he had really merged into the story. He was the young man who had met Luo Xiaoxing twenty years ago in this school.
“Have you figured out how those five people, four students and one teacher, died back then?” the man in the green robe asked again, a strange smile appearing on his face as he gazed deeply at them.
Xie Wanxing still answered.
Although he had roughly pieced together this story, he still didn’t dare to be completely sure, so he tentatively said, “You killed them, right? Because those four girls bullied Luo Xiaoxing, indirectly causing her death. And the teacher just stood by and watched when Luo Xiaoxing sought help, so you also killed the teacher.”
The man in the green robe nodded, but then shook his head, “Yes and no. I killed the people. But those four, didn’t bully Luo Xiaoxing, they pushed her off the building and falsely claimed it was suicide.”
The faces of several people changed slightly, wondering what kind of script the program team wrote, to actually involve a murder case.
“They are the murderers,” the man in the green robe said coldly.
Under the surprised gazes of the six, the man in the green robe sighed, “This incident from twenty years ago, except for me and Xiaoxing, has been unknown to anyone else. Since you’ve intruded here today, I’ll tell you.”
Fu Wenshan glanced out the window. Although it was still pitch black outside, it wouldn’t be long before a faint light appeared. He said seriously, “You don’t need to tell us, just state your requirements, we’re short on time.”
The man in the green robe: “…Shut up, you must listen, or else I’ll kill you.”
Under the insistence of the man in the green robe, they heard the complete story from twenty years ago.
Actually, there was nothing special about it. Just a lonely medium girl, an orphan from childhood with no friends, mistook the mountain god for a wandering ghost, and caught him to confide her troubles.
At first, the mountain god didn’t want to pay attention to this girl, but maybe out of boredom, or maybe out of compassion, he accompanied this girl time and time again, until he fell in love with her.
He gave her an apricot flower bracelet with her name hidden on it, gave her spring peach blossoms, gave her hairpins and small flower drums, gave her everything he thought could please her.
If this girl hadn’t died in the end, this would have been just a poignant love story.
But in a place unknown to the mountain god, this girl had been suffering from campus violence, bullied and insulted by four girls in the vocal music club, enduring all sorts of mental torture.
She endured it all because no matter how she sought help, whether from teachers or classmates, no one ever helped her.
She thought the mountain god was just an ordinary ghost who couldn’t help her, so she never sought help from him.
She just hoped to graduate.
After graduation, she would be able to escape from this place.
But on the eve of graduation, she was pushed off the rooftop and died in the late spring before summer arrived.
“After her death, I learned all this. I wondered countless times why I didn’t notice the scars on her body, which were definitely not accidentally bumped into,” a tear rolled down the man in the green robe’s eyes, as if he had returned to the day when he first met Luo Xiaoxing under the school tree, the girl in a white shirt and blue skirt, her eyes clean and lively, “After I knew the truth, I killed everyone involved in this incident, including the teacher who stood by. And I myself fell from the mountain god into a demon. I turned this school into a haunted school, but I myself have been trapped here, unable to transcend.”
Although Xie Wanxing wasn’t deeply engaged, the voice of the man in the green robe was filled with pain, and even he felt a bit sympathetic listening to it.
It’s as if twenty years ago, there really was a girl named Luo Xiaoxing who died in late spring in this haunted school.
Zhou Ying and Xiao Jia simply started wiping their eyes, looking very easy to deceive and easily fooled.
The man in the green robe paused for a moment, as if remembering his loved one, but soon he looked back at the six people in front of him and said, “Mediums, I need you to find something for me. If you give me this thing, I will leave this place, and let this ghostly school disappear into thin air.”
“What thing?”
“The last letter left to me by Luo Xiaoxing. She said if I find it, I’ll know her wish.” The man in the green robe looked melancholy, “But I’ve searched the whole school, only to find out that this letter was hidden in this meeting room.”
This was the final task assigned by the program team.
After saying this, the man in the green robe slowly approached, extending his hand amidst their vigilant gazes. “Come on, hand over Xiaoxing’s things to me. As long as you help me find the last letter, I will leave.”
As he spoke, a dense white fog suddenly emerged from somewhere in the meeting room, blocking everyone’s line of sight.
And when the fog cleared, the six props they had just found were gone, and the man in the green robe was also nowhere to be seen.
Only the six of them were left in the meeting room, empty and deserted, the lights in the room extinguished, with only the faint moonlight outside the window.
