Fu Zhiyuan leisurely buttoned up his shirt, a glint of satisfaction in his eyes as he complimented, “Wife, you guessed it just right.”
Shen Nanxing: “…”
So should I buy you a leash and tie you up? Day after day, you get the advantage and act so coy.
Shen Nanxing felt that Fu Zhiyuan was becoming more and more shameless…
As soon as work hours ended, Fu Zhiyuan eagerly took him home.
“Cotton Candy must miss me, I’ll go upstairs to check on it first,” Shen Nanxing said, changing his shoes at the door and heading upstairs without a second thought. He didn’t notice that behind him, Fu Zhiyuan’s face darkened as he reached out, only to hug empty air.
Fu Zhiyuan regretted his decision to get a cat. Now, his wife’s eyes were only on the cat and not on him. What should he do? No, he had to find a way to get rid of it!
Fu Zhiyuan silently competed with a cat in his mind, while Shen Nanxing, unaware of this, walked into the cat room and saw Aunt Chen still cleaning.
“Aunt Chen, where’s Cotton Candy?”
Aunt Chen, engrossed in cleaning the cat litter, looked up, “Mr. Shen, Cotton Candy is sleeping.” She pointed to the cat bed.
Shen Nanxing walked over and saw that Cotton Candy was peacefully curled up under the blanket, sleeping. The cat bed was large and soft, and with the blanket covering it, Shen Nanxing didn’t immediately notice it. He reached out and gently stroked Cotton Candy’s head, his eyes full of affection, “Why do you sleep so much, lazy cat?”
Perhaps hearing someone speak ill of it, Cotton Candy lazily lifted an eyelid, meowed irritably, and then rolled over. Shen Nanxing couldn’t help but chuckle, “What? You still don’t want to admit it?”
Cotton Candy stretched, lazily meowing a few more times.
Their interaction was warm and cozy.
At that moment, Aunt Chen spoke up, laughing, “Mr. Shen, it looks like Cotton Candy really likes you. If it were Mr. Fu saying it was fat, it might have used its claws to scratch him.”
Shen Nanxing poked its belly, “I didn’t know you’re so fierce with your dad!”
To his surprise, Fu Zhiyuan’s cat also had two sides to its personality, just like its owner.
Aunt Chen finished tying up the trash bag and continued, “It’s really changed from when it first came. When Mr. Fu brought it back, it was so timid, it would hide whenever someone came close.”
“I only got close to it because I fed it every day,” Aunt Chen said, reminiscing about feeding Cotton Candy.
Her words made Shen Nanxing realize a secret. Fu Zhiyuan had lied to him, saying Cotton Candy was a stray he found and asked him to help name it. Not only that, Fu Zhiyuan had been using Cotton Candy as an excuse to video call him every night.
It turned out that Fu Zhiyuan had been plotting all along! Hmph, my brother was right. Fu Zhiyuan’s scheming was deep!
Soon, Aunt Chen finished cleaning and left. Shen Nanxing snapped out of his thoughts, picked up Cotton Candy, and went downstairs, ready to confront someone.
Fu Zhiyuan was in the kitchen, handling ingredients. When he caught a glimpse of Shen Nanxing approaching, he was slightly surprised. How did he come down so quickly?
“Wife, what’s wrong? Are you hungry?” Fu Zhiyuan asked.
Shen Nanxing snorted haughtily, “Fu Zhiyuan, you dare lie to me!”
Fu Zhiyuan paused while chopping vegetables, his mind racing, unable to think of what lie he had told.
“Wife, how could I dare lie to you? I love you too much to lie!” Fu Zhiyuan said, but Shen Nanxing was not buying it.
“You’re sure?”
Fu Zhiyuan raised his hand and swore, looking sincere as he said, “Wife, I’m sure, absolutely sure.” He had confidence that he had never lied, let alone tricked his beloved.
Shen Nanxing pointed at Cotton Candy in his arms, “What about this? How do you explain it?”
Fu Zhiyuan saw the cat in his arms and suddenly remembered. To grab Shen Nanxing’s attention, he had pretended that the cat was a stray. Now, recalling Aunt Chen’s earlier slip, Fu Zhiyuan realized she must have let it slip.
He felt like he had shot himself in the foot.
If he had known, he should’ve just told the truth from the beginning.
Once again, Fu Zhiyuan had the urge to get rid of Cotton Candy—it was only causing trouble between him and his wife.
He quickly followed after Shen Nanxing, “Wife, let me explain!”
Shen Nanxing was sitting on the couch, stroking Cotton Candy, refusing to respond.
This made Fu Zhiyuan panic. He couldn’t let his wife leave him tonight!
Fu Zhiyuan gently patted his head and patiently explained, “Wife, I just wanted to talk to you more, so I thought bringing Cotton Candy around would get your attention.”
“When we first met, I felt you were a bit scared of me, so I thought keeping a small pet would make you less wary of me.”
“Wife, I really didn’t mean to lie to you.”
“Can you forgive me?”
Shen Nanxing listened to his pitiful explanation and almost laughed, but he forced himself to look angry. “Why did you want to get my attention?”
Fu Zhiyuan sighed deeply, his gaze intense as he looked at him. “Of course, it’s because I like you. I fell in love with you at first sight.”
Shen Nanxing was quite surprised. He hadn’t expected Fu Zhiyuan to have such feelings for him so early on.
“Flattery!” Fu Zhiyuan took Shen Nanxing’s hand and placed it on his chest, saying each word slowly and seriously, “I truly fell in love with you at first sight!”
Before meeting Shen Nanxing, Fu Zhiyuan would have never believed in the idea of “love at first sight.” But when it happened to him, he found it strangely natural and just followed his heart.
Shen Nanxing tried to pull his hand away, but Fu Zhiyuan gripped it tightly and refused to let go, staring at him with intense eyes. Shen Nanxing gave up struggling and said, “I get it. I believe you.”
Actually, he wasn’t really that angry. He just wanted to know the reason behind Fu Zhiyuan’s actions. But seeing Fu Zhiyuan’s anxious explanations made him want to tease him a little.
When Fu Zhiyuan saw that Shen Nanxing wasn’t angry anymore, he breathed a sigh of relief.
“Wife, you’re so good!”
With a “smack,” Shen Nanxing was unexpectedly kissed on the lips. And the one who kissed him had already run off to the kitchen to cook.
Shen Nanxing shook his head and sighed, “So childish!” But deep inside, he felt a sweetness in his heart.
After dinner, Fu Zhiyuan went to great lengths to keep Shen Nanxing over for the night. He used every trick, from acting cute to being coquettish, and even pretending to be pitiful.
Fu Zhiyuan looked at him with puppy-dog eyes. “Wife, I can’t sleep without you tonight. Look, I even have dark circles under my eyes.”
“Wife, if I become ugly, you won’t want me, right…”
“Wife, I’ve already made the bed for you. Don’t you want to try it out?”
“…”
Shen Nanxing was so worn down by his persistence that he finally agreed to stay.
