As soon as Fu Chengyu left, Shen Nanxing couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “Brother, did you see that? Fu Chengyu acted like a mouse seeing a cat in front of his uncle. He didn’t even dare to say anything.”
Shen Chuanqiong ruffled his head. “Good job, baby.” He was relieved to see that Shen Nanxing wasn’t the type to be easily swayed and had his own principles and stance.
Shen Nanxing lazily leaned back in the sofa chair. “Of course, I’m not going to forgive him.” Just thinking about how tomorrow he could enjoy watching Lin Bai’s defiant yet forced apology to him made him particularly eager.
While the brothers were talking and laughing, Fu Zhiyuan returned. He walked up to Shen Nanxing, looking a bit apologetic. “Xingbao, I’m sorry.”
Shen Nanxing blinked in surprise. “Why are you apologizing?”
“It’s because our Fu family didn’t educate Chengyu properly, so I also bear some responsibility in this matter,” Fu Zhiyuan said seriously, looking at Shen Nanxing.
Shen Nanxing was taken aback. He hadn’t expected such a strong sense of justice from the big shot in the novel. To take the blame upon himself was something he had never heard of before.
Shen Nanxing forced a smile. “Actually, it’s not that serious. This…”
Shen Chuanqiong also chimed in, “Yeah, Old Fu, this isn’t your fault. If anyone should be blamed, it’s that reckless nephew of yours.”
Before Shen Chuanqiong could finish, Fu Zhiyuan interrupted him. “Ultimately, it’s our Fu family that owes an apology to Xingbao, so I will make it up to him.”
“Alright then, suit yourself,” Shen Chuanqiong said as he rubbed his nose. Seeing Fu Zhiyuan’s determined expression, he relented.
Fu Zhiyuan took out his phone and handed it to Shen Nanxing, saying, “Xingbao, leave me a contact. If anything like this happens again, let me know, and I’ll take care of Fu Chengyu personally.”
“If anyone bullies you, I’ll help you teach them a lesson!”
Shen Chuanqiong felt a sense of crisis rising in his chest. “Hey, I’m your real brother here. Why are you butting in?”
“Hey, you’re stealing my lines!” Shen Chuanqiong mumbled.
Fu Zhiyuan ignored him and leaned in, holding the phone closer to Shen Nanxing. His gaze was fixed on Shen Nanxing, his expression intense.
Shen Nanxing hesitated. “How are you going to teach him a lesson?”
“Up to you.”
Shen Nanxing pointed at himself in surprise. “What do you mean by that? Do you expect me to tell you how to teach him a lesson? Can it really be that simple?”
“Alright,” Shen Nanxing said, taking out his phone and adding Fu Zhiyuan as a contact.
When Fu Zhiyuan achieved his goal, a slight smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “Xingbao, if anything happens in the future, you can always reach out to me.”
Shen Nanxing muttered, “Okay.”
Seeing this scene, Shen Chuanqiong couldn’t help but feel a bit jealous. Why did he suddenly feel uncomfortable around Fu Zhiyuan? He deliberately cleared his throat and pushed Shen Nanxing toward the door. “Xingbao, weren’t you tired? Go rest in your room.”
Shen Nanxing glanced at the sky. “But, brother, it’s almost time for dinner.”
Unknowingly, the night had already fallen.
“Then let’s go downstairs and eat.” Fu Zhiyuan’s voice came from behind them. “Can I bum a meal off you?”
“Eat? Has Fu’s Group gone bankrupt? Is your family out of food?” Shen Chuanqiong scoffed.
Fu Zhiyuan’s expression remained unchanged. “I wasn’t asking you. I was asking Xingbao.”
He turned his gaze back to Shen Nanxing and asked softly, “Can I, Xingbao?”
His voice was low, almost as though it had a magnetic charm.
Shen Nanxing turned his face away uncomfortably. “Do whatever you want.”
“Thank you, Xingbao.”
Shen Chuanqiong snorted. “What thick skin you have.”
After Fu Chengyu left, Lin Bai looked at the ambiguous marks all over his body and a trace of smugness flashed in his eyes.
Fu Chengyu had the Fu family’s backing and would eventually inherit Fu’s Group. As long as he could make Fu Chengyu fall completely in love with him, they might even get married in the future. At that point, he could have anything he wanted without having to worry about other people’s opinions. The thought of these scenarios made Lin Bai involuntarily smile to himself.
While he was daydreaming, a call from his roommate broke his fantasy. Lin Bai’s voice was a little hoarse when he answered, “Hello, Xiao Ze, what’s going on?”
Xiao Ze’s voice sounded anxious. “A Bai, you finally picked up the phone! Did you see the notice the school sent out? What’s going on with you? How could you do something like that?”
Lin Bai, confused by Xiao Ze’s questions, stuttered a weak explanation. “What post? I don’t know anything about it?”
Xiao Ze groaned in frustration. “A Bai, check your phone right now.”
Lin Bai quickly responded, “Okay,” and hung up the phone. When he checked his phone, he realized there were several missed calls and a message from someone claiming to be from the Shen Group’s legal department. The message stated that his inappropriate comments on the school forum had caused trouble for Shen Nanxing, the young master of the Shen family, and demanded that Lin Bai publicly apologize to Shen Nanxing. Otherwise, they would sue him.
After reading the message, Lin Bai’s face turned pale. He hadn’t expected Shen Nanxing’s background to be so powerful—that he was actually the young master of the Shen family. Lin Bai regretted letting his jealousy lead him to post comments that could easily be misunderstood.
He gritted his teeth through the intense pain in his body, still covered in ambiguous marks, and left the hotel, heading back to the dorm. On his way back, he felt uneasy but forced himself to stay calm and think of a solution.
When he arrived at the dorm, Lin Bai found only Xiao Ze there, and he felt a slight relief. His eyes were slightly red, and his voice trembled as he called out, “Xiao Ze.”
Xiao Ze, who had been studying, quickly asked, “What happened? What’s going on?”
Lin Bai shook his head slightly. “I don’t know either. It wasn’t intentional. I didn’t think things would escalate like this.”
Xiao Ze sighed helplessly. “A Bai, how could you be so careless? If you were just an ordinary person, it wouldn’t be a big deal, just apologize and it would be over. But the other person is the young master of the Shen family. Shen’s Group is probably not going to let this slide so easily.”
Lin Bai grabbed Xiao Ze’s hand with a fearful expression and pleaded, “Xiao Ze, you have to help me with this. Please.”
Both Lin Bai and Xiao Ze came from ordinary families and had worked hard to come to the capital city for their studies, so they had a special bond and their relationship was good. Lin Bai knew that if he asked, Xiao Ze would do whatever he could to help him.
Xiao Ze hesitated for a moment, not wanting to help but feeling reluctant to refuse because of their friendship. Just as he was unsure how to respond, Xiao Ze suddenly had an idea. “Oh, A Bai, haven’t you been close to Senior Fu lately? I often see you two walking together. With Senior Fu’s connections, he should be able to handle this for you.”
Upon hearing this, Lin Bai’s face changed, and he hesitated before speaking. “Senior Fu and I had a falling out recently. I’m not sure if he would help me.”
Xiao Ze was surprised. “So what should we do now?”
After a while, Lin Bai slowly spoke, “Xiao Ze, could you help me explain things to Senior Fu? You can tell him that my account was hacked, and I was also a victim.”
Xiao Ze finally realized what Lin Bai was asking—he wanted him to lie and convince Senior Fu to believe this explanation. Xiao Ze hesitated and asked uncertainly, “Do you think that will work?”
Lin Bai’s expression was calm, though he felt somewhat guilty. He answered confidently, “It will work, it definitely will.”
Reluctantly, and because of their relationship, Xiao Ze agreed to help him.
