Even though Shen Nanxing knew he was in a harem novel world, he still couldn’t accept it. That “green tea”[1]Green Tea is slang in Chinese that means a person who pretend to be sweet and innocent but are dishonest. was truly disgusting—pretending to be fearless against power, but secretly wishing to conquer all the rich and powerful men under his suit pants. Wanting both ways, completely greedy.
Just thinking about the scenes of their entanglement in the novel made Shen Nanxing physically nauseous. He just hoped he would never have to witness those steamy scenes himself. Otherwise, he couldn’t guarantee he wouldn’t do something shocking.
After completing the discharge procedures, Shen Nanxing returned home in the luxury car sent to pick him up.
Before he could even step inside, his mother came rushing toward him as if the wind carried her feet, gazing at him with distress.
“Sweetheart, why have you gotten even thinner?”
“It’s all my fault! I caught a cold and couldn’t take care of you. Otherwise, how could you look so pale and frail!”
Mother Shen gently caressed his pale cheeks, her eyes turning red with emotion.
Faced with his mother’s overwhelming care, Shen Nanxing felt a bit at a loss. He awkwardly patted her shoulder and comforted, “Mom, don’t cry! Dr. Chen already said I can be discharged, so I must be fine now!”
For some reason, being around his mother gave him a sense of warmth and familiarity.
Mother Shen quickly composed herself and pulled him inside the house.
“Sweetheart, your dad and brother will be back tonight. They’re bringing gifts for you, but don’t forgive them too easily! They were too much for not picking you up themselves today!”
When Shen Nanxing had read the novel, he knew the original character was extremely spoiled. But now, experiencing it firsthand, he truly felt the depth of that love.
His bedroom was the best in the entire house in terms of layout and sunlight. The walk-in closet was filled with limited edition clothing from various designer brands in every style imaginable. He even had a dedicated music room and a gaming room.
Upon entering the gaming room, Shen Nanxing couldn’t stop smiling. There was a game console he’d wanted for a long time but never bought. To the left, a glass display case held his favorite collectible figures. On the right was a small bookshelf stacked with all the novels he loved.
Seeing those books, Shen Nanxing couldn’t help but sigh—his family truly adored the original character. Even these seemingly “unrefined” hobbies for high society were fully supported by the Shen family.
Thinking about it made him envy the original owner a little.
Shen Nanxing carefully explored every corner of his space. Feeling a bit tired, he lay down on the soft bed and drifted off to sleep.
When he woke up, it was already nearly dark.
After getting dressed and heading downstairs, he was suddenly pulled into a tight embrace by a tall figure.
His vision darkened as the person blocked his view.
“Sweetheart, did you miss your big brother?”
“Sweetheart, guess what gift I brought you today?”
“Sweetheart, why aren’t you saying anything?”
“Sweetheart…”
Shen Chuanqiong scooped his younger brother into his arms, chattering nonstop without noticing Shen Nanxing’s flushed face.
“B-Brother…” Shen Nanxing barely had time to speak when their mother’s sharp voice interrupted.
“Shen Chuanqiong, are you trying to smother your brother? If you want to suffocate him, just say so!”
She scolded him and, still feeling unsatisfied, grabbed a magazine from the coffee table and hurled it at him.
Smack!
The magazine hit Shen Chuanqiong square on the forehead.
Thanks to their mother’s intervention, Shen Nanxing finally escaped the stifling embrace. He shot her a grateful look.
“Ow!” Shen Chuanqiong yelped, then quickly pulled Shen Nanxing back, anxiously inspecting him from head to toe.
“Sweetheart, are you okay? It’s all my fault—I got too excited.”
Shen Nanxing shook his head gently and called out sweetly, “Brother.”
Hearing that soft “Brother,” combined with Shen Nanxing’s adorable, smiling face, completely melted Shen Chuanqiong’s heart.
“Ahhh, Sweetheart, you’re just too cute!”
“Look, I even bought you that limited edition figure you like so much today!” He grinned proudly, dragging Shen Nanxing over to open the gift.
His behavior was completely different from the calm, composed President persona his employees described.
Shen Nanxing nodded and allowed himself to be led over, happily unboxing the gift. Unsurprisingly, he loved it.
Looking up with genuine gratitude, he said, “Thank you, Brother.”
“Why thank me? Sweetheart, you deserve all the best gifts in the world!” Shen Chuanqiong affectionately ruffled his hair.
Their mother, watching the interaction with folded arms, raised an eyebrow and spoke in a serious tone.
“Sweetheart, have you forgotten what I told you? A single action figure and you’re already forgiving your brother? You clearly promised me you wouldn’t forgive him so easily!”
Shen Nanxing tilted his head, blinking innocently.
“Brother, did you bribe me?” He shot Shen Chuanqiong a sly glance, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Catching on, Shen Chuanqiong played along.
“Bribe? What bribe? This is just a gift for my little brother after being discharged from the hospital. Besides, Sweetheart never said he forgave me yet, did he?”
“Mom, have you been badmouthing me and Dad while we were away?”
“Uh… The soup in the kitchen! I need to check on it! Sweetheart, you and your brother keep opening your gifts!”
With that, she quickly made her escape, leaving the two brothers to continue their bonding.
Mother Shen walked away guiltily, her gaze flickering as she avoided making eye contact with her eldest son.
Shen Chuanqiong sighed helplessly but didn’t expose her. Meanwhile, Shen Nanxing chuckled quietly to himself.
From their interactions so far, he felt the family atmosphere in the Shen household was incredibly warm and harmonious—so much so that it made him reluctant to leave.
Just then, Father Shen returned home. Though already past his fifties, he had few gray hairs, with only his temples slightly streaked with white. His well-tailored suit fit him perfectly, and the few wrinkles around his eyes only added to his scholarly and gentle demeanor.
Carrying a small cake and a gift for Shen Nanxing, he walked in with a smile.
“My sweet baby! Daddy missed you so much!”
Setting down the cake and gift, he moved forward, arms wide open, ready to hug Shen Nanxing.
However, Shen Chuanqiong swiftly blocked him with an outstretched hand.
Father Shen paused mid-step, swatting his son’s hand away in irritation.
“You brat! Are you rebelling? Get lost!”
Then, he opened his arms again, eager for a big hug with Shen Nanxing.
Seeing this, Shen Nanxing’s face darkened slightly as he thought to himself, *No wonder they’re father and son—they express their affection the exact same way.*
However, not wanting to experience the suffocating hug again, he quickly sidestepped and greeted him instead, “Dad, you’re back?”
Father Shen, clearly delighted, beamed and said, “Sweetheart, I bought your favorite cake and the limited-edition figure you’ve been wanting for so long!”
He looked incredibly proud, as if saying, *See? I’ll buy you everything you love.*
Shen Chuanqiong snorted and teased, “Dad, are you sure that ‘limited edition’ isn’t a knockoff? You’re kind of old for this—how would you even know what to buy?”
Father Shen immediately retaliated with a light kick, “You brat! If you can’t speak properly, go stand in the corner!”
“Stop saying ‘brat’ and ‘go die’! If you two want to argue, take it outside! Don’t disturb my sweetheart,” Mother Shen scolded firmly.
The two men instantly fell silent under her command.
Seeing this, Shen Nanxing couldn’t help but burst into laughter, thoroughly entertained by their antics.
The three of them exchanged glances, seemingly sharing a mutual thought: ‘As long as Sweetheart is happy, that’s all that matters.’
The whole family radiated warmth and joy.
