Inside the police station, the young officer gathered them all together to understand the situation. “Alright, explain what happened?” Fu Chengyu and Xia Zimu both glared at each other, then turned their heads away. Zhou He didn’t understand the situation and had no idea how to speak up. Lin Bai, being there for the first time, was a little scared and didn’t dare to speak carelessly. Seeing their collective silence, the officer looked at them seriously and warned, “If you don’t tell the truth, none of you are leaving today!”
Lin Bai heard that if they didn’t confess, they would have to stay overnight, and if the school or anyone else found out, his life would be ruined. He glanced at Fu Chengyu, made up his mind, and spoke first, “They were the ones fighting. I was just trying to stop it. Senior Zhou came later to help break it up.”
The officer looked at the two somewhat disheveled individuals and asked, “Why did you fight?” Xia Zimu disdainfully glanced at Fu Chengyu, “He cheated. He’s a scumbag. Who else should I fight if not him?”
The officer immediately understood that it was related to a relationship issue. He then turned to Fu Chengyu, “Why did you cheat?”
Hearing the word “cheat,” Fu Chengyu’s face instantly darkened. “Officer, I didn’t cheat. Xia Zimu is just meddling in other people’s business.”
“Then what exactly is your relationship? All of you better speak honestly!” The officer slammed his hand on the table and said loudly.
After Lin Bai’s explanation, the officer finally understood the truth. The truth was that the four were alumni. Xia Zimu saw Fu Chengyu and Lin Bai hugging and felt bad for his friend, unable to hold back his anger and attacked. Fu Chengyu, being hit, naturally retaliated. Lin Bai and Zhou He were just trying to stop the fight and did not participate.
In the end, the officer asked them to write a letter of guarantee.
“Officer, can we leave now?” Xia Zimu handed over the hastily written guarantee letter.
“Leave? No way. I’ll call your family to come pick you up,” the officer said, frowning at the poorly written document.
“What?” Xia Zimu’s defiant attitude immediately softened at the mention of his family being called.
“He’s my brother, I’ll leave with him,” Xia Zimu quickly thought of a response and wrapped his arm around Zhou He’s.
“Stop with the jokes, just wait for your family to pick you up,” the officer thought to himself, considering that if they left like this without supervision, who knows what could happen again.
Fu Chengyu, hearing that his family had to come, finally agreed. He felt a twinge of panic. After thinking it over, he called his uncle.
Once the phone connected, Fu Chengyu tentatively asked, “Uncle, I’m at the police station. Can you come get me?”
Fu Zhiyuan was having dinner with Shen Nanxing and others when he was interrupted. A flash of displeasure crossed his face as he coldly asked, “What did you do?”
“Uncle, I…” Fu Chengyu hadn’t finished speaking when Xia Zimu suddenly shouted loudly, “Uncle, help me, come and get me!”
Xia Zimu’s voice was loud and piercing, and Shen Nanxing heard it. He hurriedly asked, “Xia Zimu? What happened to him?” Seeing how concerned he was, Fu Zhiyuan asked, “Are you all at the police station?”
“Yes, Uncle,” Fu Chengyu’s voice was even quieter.
“Wait there,” Fu Zhiyuan said before hanging up the phone.
When the call ended, Fu Chengyu let out a sigh of relief, looking at Xia Zimu with disdain. “I’m talking to my uncle, why are you making a scene?”
“Ha ha ha, you can’t tell me what to do,” Xia Zimu stuck his tongue out and made a face at him.
Fu Chengyu: “…” He’d never seen someone so shameless, clinging to his uncle like that!
Zhou He went to the police for alcohol and gauze to treat the wound on Fu Chengyu’s face. He tugged on Xia Zimu’s sleeve, signaling for him to calm down. “Mu Mu, don’t move, I’m going to clean the wound with alcohol.”
…
After Fu Zhiyuan hung up, he looked grim. Su Chen noticed his expression and asked, “What happened? What did your nephew get into?”
Fu Zhiyuan scoffed, “Who knows with him.”
Shen Nanxing, curious about why Xia Zimu was there, wondered if the two of them had ended up at the police station because they had fought. “Zhiyuan, aren’t you going to check on them?”
“Do you want me to go?” Fu Zhiyuan noticed the concern in Shen Nanxing’s voice, feeling a slight pang of jealousy. Xingbao really cares about Fu Zhiyuan.
Shen Nanxing responded with a puzzled expression, “You’re going, why are you asking me?”
Su Chen, feeling full from dinner, suggested, “Why don’t we all go? Dinner’s nearly over anyway.”
Shen Chuanqiong disagreed immediately, “Who goes to the police station late at night?”
“Late at night? Please, Mr. Shen, can you use the right words? We’re going to bail someone out, not going to the station for no reason,” Su Chen retorted in annoyance.
“Fine, let’s go!” Shen Nanxing had no objections.
Shen Chuanqiong, seeing that Shen Nanxing was going, stopped protesting. He and Fu Zhiyuan each took a car and headed toward the police station.
“You’re free to go now. Someone’s here to pick you up,” the officer who was interrogating them said as he entered.
When Xia Zimu heard this, he exclaimed, “Oh yeah!” and walked out of the police station, shouting, “I’m finally free!” He looked refreshed as he exited.
The four of them walked out and were immediately stunned when they saw Shen Nanxing and the others waiting by the side of the road. Xia Zimu and Zhou He were surprised, while Fu Chengyu and Lin Bai felt guilty.
“Uncle, thanks for coming to get me!” Xia Zimu stepped forward to thank Fu Zhiyuan.
Zhou He quickly followed, calling out, “Uncle!”
Fu Zhiyuan nodded slightly, his expression unreadable.
He glanced at Fu Chengyu behind him, his gaze turning sharp as he coldly said, “Why aren’t you coming over?”
Fu Chengyu nervously rubbed his hands, lowered his head, and called out, “Uncle.”
Fu Zhiyuan spoke succinctly, “Explain.”
Fu Chengyu hesitated for a long time, unable to explain anything clearly.
Xia Zimu gave a mischievous smile; his opportunity for revenge had come.
“Uncle, since Fu Chengyu won’t speak, I’ll explain. To put it simply, Fu Chengyu and I had a fight because of this classmate,” Xia Zimu pointed at Lin Bai.
Fu Zhiyuan looked at him and motioned for him to continue.
“Fu Chengyu was hugging this classmate. He has an engagement with Nanxing, and to me, this is no different from cheating. That’s why I couldn’t hold back and hit him.”
Fu Chengyu was so angry his face turned red, wishing he could tear his mouth off. Why didn’t he speak like this at the police station?
“Uncle, don’t listen to him. Lin Bai and I have nothing to do with each other. It’s all a misunderstanding!” Fu Chengyu restrained the panic in his heart and quickly explained.
“Shut up!”
Fu Zhiyuan’s face darkened, and a surge of anger rose within him.
Fu Chengyu was so frightened by his shout that he immediately fell silent.
Shen Chuanqiong, hearing this, was enraged. “So this is what all the fuss was about!”
“Fu Chengyu, you piece of trash! If you’re unhappy with the engagement, we can call it off, but why did you have to make such a mess and disgust our good boy?”
“Good thing I came today, or else we wouldn’t have known what kind of person you really are.”
Shen Chuanqiong continued to rant, each insult harsher than the last.
Shen Nanxing, who had been listening, was stunned. He didn’t expect his brother, who appeared so refined, would curse like this.
Fu Chengyu lowered his head, too ashamed to say another word. Today was definitely the most humiliating and embarrassing day of his life.
Everyone else stayed silent, waiting for Shen Chuanqiong to finish his tirade.
Finally, Fu Zhiyuan spoke, “This matter is our Fu family’s fault. I will give the Shen family a satisfactory explanation.”
Shen Chuanqiong snorted, “I guess you’re no better than the rest. I really misjudged the people from the Fu family.”
Fu Zhiyuan didn’t expect the anger to be directed at him, but he ignored Shen Chuanqiong’s curses and walked forward, standing in front of Shen Nanxing.
He asked, “Xingbao, what do you think?”
