The waiters, sharp-eyed as they were, noticed the unusual atmosphere between the two and paused briefly.
Lu Changting walked past Song Mianfeng without casting a glance, naturally not noticing the subtle tension between the two. It was Lu Yin Zhen who stopped him, saying, “Lu Changting, you go ahead. I have some private matters to attend to.”
Lu Changting then glanced at him, his gaze passing over Song Mianfeng, and smiled, “Sure.”
With that, he went downstairs.
Lu Yin Zhen gestured for them to go upstairs.
Although Song Mianfeng had inferred from the conversation between Lu Yin Zhen and Lu Changting that they were probably here for business, he still felt a bit unhappy.
Meeting at a place like Wangjianglou, without bringing an assistant, and who knew what they would discuss in the private room, inevitably led to speculation.
Feeling displeased, he ignored Lu Yin Zhen and remained silent, leading Song Zhanyue upstairs.
The corridor was not a suitable place for conversation, and Song Zhanyue secretly glanced back at Lu Yin Zhen, signaling him to follow.
Lu Yin Zhen followed, entering the private room after them.
The waiter led them into the room, seeing the man they had encountered in the corridor following them in. Without showing any curiosity, he simply placed the menu on the table and asked, “Would you like to order now, sir?”
Song Mianfeng grunted and handed the menu to Song Zhanyue.
As Song Zhanyue ordered, she discreetly observed Lu Yin Zhen and Song Mianfeng. After ordering, the waiter took the menu and left, but the two still remained silent. The awkward silence was unbearable. Song Zhanyue cleared her throat lightly and said, “I’m going to the restroom,” before getting up and leaving.
Leaving the private room to the two wooden fish knots who needed to resolve some personal issues, she winked at Lu Yin Zhen before closing the door, mouthing “good luck.”
Lu Yin Zhen nodded to her.
His mood was complex.
Although he considered himself straightforward, encountering this situation for the first time made him feel a bit at a loss, unsure how to explain.
As soon as Song Zhanyue left, the atmosphere in the private room became even colder.
Lu Yin Zhen sighed softly, breaking the silence, “I was just discussing the acquisition of the Lu Shi Company with Lu Changting.”
“I didn’t misunderstand,” Song Mianfeng’s tone was flat, “but I’m a bit unhappy.”
“If I went on a blind date with someone else, wouldn’t you be unhappy?” Song Mianfeng glanced at him directly and said frankly, “If you have dinner alone with Lu Changting, of course I’d be unhappy too.”
Why discuss work outside the office, insisting on socializing, and not even bringing an assistant? It was very irritating.
The word “alone” was indeed easy to make people think too much.
Lu Yin Zhen lowered his eyes and admitted his mistake, “Next time, I’ll bring my assistant.”
Song Mianfeng finally smiled faintly, showing a slight smile, and reluctantly let it go, “How did your discussion go?”
“The Lu Group won’t intervene in this matter,” Lu Yin Zhen’s tone relaxed slightly, “which will save a lot of trouble.”
“So, will your work be a bit easier and less busy from now on?”
Lu Yin Zhen smiled and lightly replied, “Yes, I’ll have time to meet with you more often.”
The door of the private room was pushed open, and Song Zhanyue poked her head out from behind the door, smiling brightly, “Gentlemen, did I come back too early?”
Lu Yin Zhen’s smile faded slightly, feeling a bit embarrassed, and he lowered his head to adjust his cuffs.
Having gotten used to her teasing, Song Mianfeng’s tone remained calm, “No, you came back just in time.”
Several waiters followed Song Zhanyue into the private room, arranging the dishes one by one, and said, “Please enjoy your meal.”
Lu Yin Zhen felt a bit awkward sitting at the table, especially since the waiter had also prepared a set of utensils for him.
Song Zhanyue didn’t think much of it, moving some of the mild dishes in front of Song Mianfeng and saying, “Let’s eat some more together, Yin zhen ge. If you don’t like it, we can order something else. Don’t worry about saving money for my brother.”
There were spicy and mild dishes on the table. It was evident that Song Zhanyue preferred spicy food, while the mild dishes were almost all Song Mianfeng’s favorites. Lu Yin Zhen secretly noted Song Mianfeng’s taste preferences and served him a bowl of soup.
Song Zhanyue blinked, feeling as if the details of their interaction were producing a blush-worthy atmosphere.
Lu Yin Zhen misunderstood, reaching out to her, “Do you want some soup?”
Song Zhanyue smiled, handing him the bowl, “Just the soup and meat, no tomatoes.”
Song Mianfeng took a sip of soup, his eyes teasing his sister, feeling a bit uncomfortable and averting his gaze.
Taking the soup, Song Zhanyue thanked him, her eyes brimming with amusement. “Do you have plans tonight, Yin Zhe ge? My brother and I are going shopping after dinner. Care to join us?”
Song Mianfeng handed her a piece of fish, warning her not to cause trouble. “Eat your vegetables.”
Observing the siblings’ interaction, Lu Yin Zhen couldn’t help but smile. “Sure.”
Afraid that Lu Yin Zhen might feel obligated due to him, Song Mianfeng added, “Are you really not busy with work?”
“No,” Lu Yin Zhen replied, “The negotiation with Lu Changting ended much sooner than I anticipated.”
“Alright.”
Song Zhanyue didn’t mind Lu Yin Zhen joining them, and since he was willing and free, what more could he say?
After dinner, Song Mianfeng went to the front desk to pay, and Song Zhanyue took the opportunity to exchange contact information with Lu Yin Zhen and added him on WeChat.
For shopping, they naturally went to the commercial district, where the department stores offered a wide variety of goods.
After browsing the women’s section on the third floor without finding anything satisfactory, Song Zhanyue, still in high spirits, dragged Song Mianfeng to the men’s section on the fourth floor.
She picked out a casual light blue shirt for him to try on and grabbed a white one of the same style, asking Lu Yin Zhen if he wanted to try one too.
While Song Mianfeng’s attire tended to be casual and relaxed, Lu Yin Zhen often dressed more formally. With Song Zhanyue’s good eye, she chose a casual shirt that balanced the two styles, imbued with a hint of indescribable ambiguity.
Her concern for her brother’s lifelong matters was genuinely heartfelt.
Lu Yin Zhen took the shirt with a smile, clearly understanding Song Zhanyue’s intentions, but he was willing to cooperate.
As Song Mianfeng headed towards the fitting rooms, his ears turned slightly red.
With three fitting rooms, two doors were closed. Song Mianfeng went into the third, and the shop assistant apologized to Lu Yin Zhen, “This gentleman might need to wait a moment.”
Lu Yin Zhen shook his head, gesturing to stop Song Mianfeng from closing the door, “Mind if I join you?”
Song Mianfeng let go of the door, stepping back. They had come together, their relationship seemed close enough that if the customer didn’t mind, neither would the shop assistant.
As the fitting room door closed, the relatively small space felt somewhat cramped with two tall men inside.
Song Mianfeng hung the shirt on the hook, moving to the side to undress, his back turned to Lu Yin Zhen.
Lu Yin Zhen’s gaze couldn’t help but linger. Perhaps it was because of his frequent outdoor activities over the years, Song Mianfeng’s skin had a healthy wheatish tone. His usual casual attire obscured his striking features, but now, as he undressed, revealing the defined muscles of his back, the contours of his spine and waist, he seemed like a figure from a painting, both sexy and enticing.
Unable to resist, Lu Yin Zhen reached out to touch his back, bringing them closer until they could hear each other’s heartbeat.
Their breaths intertwined intimately.
“Try the white one,” Lu Yin Zhen handed him the shirt, his voice slightly husky, “I want to see you in white.”
Song Mianfeng’s ears tingled slightly as he took the white shirt, his hands trembling slightly as he buttoned it up.
From behind, Lu Yin Zhen almost embraced him, taking over the remaining buttons.
Remembering his previous hesitations, Song Mianfeng couldn’t help but find it amusing. He relaxed, leaning back slightly, letting Lu Yin Zhen finish buttoning up his shirt.
As Lu Yin Zhen buttoned the last button and was about to withdraw his hand, Song Mianfeng grabbed his wrist, turning around, a smirk playing on his lips, “Need any help?”
Lu Yin Zhen’s Adam’s apple bobbed up and down, his gaze deepening.
Thinking that his offer was accepted, Song Mianfeng reached out and began unbuttoning Lu Yin Zhen’s shirt.
His slender fingers deliberately lingered, touching his chest, and he chuckled softly, causing Lu Yin Zhen’s breath to become uncontrollably erratic.
Song Mianfeng’s gaze remained fixed on Lu Yin Zhen’s waist, openly appraising. Lu Yin Zhen took the shirt hanging on the hook, swiftly dressing himself, shielding himself from Song Mianfeng’s intense gaze.
Song Mianfeng chuckled, deciding not to tease him further, and waited for him to finish dressing before pushing open the door.
Outside the fitting room, Song Zhanyue sat on a small sofa. Seeing Lu Yin Zhen and Song Mianfeng emerge, the only word that came to her mind was “perfection,” her eyes filled with admiration.
She couldn’t understand why the white shirt she picked for Lu Yin Zhen ended up on her brother.
Lu Yin Zhen looked good in light blue too. With his fair skin and slender figure, the light blue color complimented him well, diluting the paleness of his complexion and giving him a gentle and elegant temperament.
Standing beside him, Song Mianfeng looked at Lu Yin Zhen in the mirror and smiled, “Blue suits you very well.”
Lu Yin Zhen also smiled back at him, “White suits you too.”
The sales assistant’s face was filled with smiles as she sincerely remarked, “Both of you look great in this shirt.”
Song Mianfeng nodded, “Wrap it up for me, please.”
The other two dressing rooms were now vacant. Song Mianfeng and Lu Yin Zhen changed back into their own clothes and took the shirts to the cashier.
As the cashier neatly folded and packed the shirts, she smiled and said, “This young lady has already paid for it.”
Song Mianfeng and Lu Yin Zhen were momentarily stunned by the news, then turned their heads to look at Song Zhanyue.
Song Zhanyue smiled at Song Mianfeng, “The clothes I chose, of course, I pay for them. Let’s consider it an early birthday gift for you.”
“Good things come in pairs.” Song Zhanyue paused, casting a meaningful glance at Lu Yin Zhen, “As for the other one, who you want to give it to is up to you.”
Song Mianfeng reached out to ruffle Song Zhanyue’s hair, smiling somewhat helplessly, “Then I’ll accept it.”
Naturally, the other shirt went to Lu Yin Zhen.
Lu Yin Zhen didn’t say anything out of the ordinary, just silently paid for the groceries after they finished shopping at the supermarket, then quietly took out his card to settle the bill.
After returning home, he sent a red envelope to Song Zhanyue and casually asked about Song Mianfeng’s birthday.
Just as Song Zhanyue received the red envelope from Song Mianfeng, she opened the chat window with Lu Yin Zhen and found another red envelope waiting. Her inner calculation rattled—profit.
So she generously responded.
