Chapter 21: Miss Jian, are you free tomorrow?
Secretary Wang finished speaking and walked towards the door in her high heels.
“Secretary Wang, are you sure you have the authority to handle this?”
Lu Chengze sat on the sofa, his long legs crossed, his gaze towards Secretary Wang carrying a hint of imperceptible disdain.
Secretary Wang stopped in her tracks, turning to look at Lu Chengze on the sofa, her eyes lined with eyeliner narrowed slightly. “What do you mean, Mr. Lu?”
Lu Chengze picked up his water glass and poured himself a glass of water, taking a sip lightly. “The Li family and the Jian family have a deep relationship, and I am Jian Yao’s fiancĂ©.”
He raised his eyes to look at Secretary Wang. “Do you know what you’re doing by going against Lu Corporation, Mr. Li?”
Secretary Wang looked at the inexplicably confident Lu Chengze in front of her, feeling a little amused, but also a little sorry for Jian Yao.
So he knew that the cooperation between Lu Corporation and Li Corporation was facilitated by Jian Yao?
Then had he ever thought that any favor has a limit?
Jian Yao vouched for him in front of Mr. Li, but he couldn’t even manage his subordinates, allowing them to tamper with the goods.
He let his little secretary’s brother climb the ladder using Jian Yao’s resources, and when things went wrong, he dragged Jian Yao out to make a fuss.
If Mr. Li was even slightly narrow-minded, forget about the cooperation with Lu Corporation, even the relationship between the Jian family and the Li family would be affected.
He enjoyed the benefits Jian Yao brought him, yet he acted like he was above it all, unwilling to lower his noble head.
Apart from his good looks, she couldn’t understand what Jian Yao saw in him.
Secretary Wang remembered the invitation she saw in Mr. Li’s office a few days ago and Mr. Li’s phone call at noon, a smile playing on her lips.
“Whether I have the authority is my business, I don’t need Mr. Lu to worry about it. Mr. Lu has this free time, why not think about how to raise funds?”
After she finished speaking, her slender fingers grasped the door handle, opening the door of the president’s office and walking out.
Behind her, the moment the office door closed, Lu Chengze finally couldn’t hold back and waved his hand, knocking over all the cups in front of him.
Leaving the president’s office, she arrived at the secretary’s office.
Through the glass door, she could clearly see several young assistants inside frantically sorting through documents.
And on the spot where Secretary Liu’s nameplate was placed, there was no one.
Even through the crack in the door, she could hear the complaints coming from inside.
“Liu Yaozong caused the mess, why should we clean up after him? Isn’t Liu Yiyi his sister? Why doesn’t she do the sorting and statistics?”
There were years’ worth of warehouse materials, they wouldn’t be able to finish sorting it even if they worked through the night.
“Keep your voice down, if Assistant Lin and Mr. Lu hear you, you’ll be in trouble! Didn’t you hear? Mr. Lu even skipped the engagement party with Director Jian for Liu Yiyi.”
“Ah? Really? Then Director Jian is so pitiful…”
“Of course, the daughter of the Jian family, being suppressed by a country bumpkin…”
Secretary Wang listened to their discussion, her eyebrows raised, she gave them a playful glance, her steps didn’t stop, she carried the files in her arms and got on the elevator.
Just now, Lu Chengze claimed to be Miss Jian’s fiancĂ©, and the assistants in the president’s office were so out of touch.
How interesting.
No one in the entire Lu Corporation knew that Miss Jian was already engaged to the young master of the Gu family?
Secretary Wang looked at her pretty face reflected in the shiny elevator door, feeling quite happy as she took out a lipstick from her bag to touch up her makeup.
Things are getting interesting!
On the other side, Gu Zhiyan helped Jian Yao into the car.
The partition rose, leaving only the two of them in the space. Gu Zhiyan raised his hand and tugged at his tie, turning to look at her. “You got up early today, didn’t you? If you’re tired, you can sleep for a while. I’ll wake you up when we get there.”
Jian Yao rubbed her sore ankles and nodded honestly, “I’m not tired, but my feet are a bit sore. I’ll just go back and soak them to relieve the soreness.”
For the sake of looking good, she had been wearing eight-centimeter high heels all day, and after a few hours, her legs were almost not her own.
Gu Zhiyan looked down at her delicate white ankles and saw that her slender ankles were slightly swollen.
Her skin was cold and white, and her skin was tender. It wasn’t serious, but it looked a little alarming.
Gu Zhiyan’s face darkened slightly, and he leaned down to hold her ankle. His hands were large, his fingers long, and even though Jian Yao’s feet were swollen, he could easily circle them with one hand.
The warm touch made Jian Yao’s heart skip a beat, and she let out a low cry, “Gu Zhiyan.”
Gu Zhiyan’s fingers untied the laces of her high heels and accurately pressed on the acupoint on her ankle. He gave a soft “hmm” and gently soothed her, “Don’t be afraid, I’ll massage it for you, it won’t hurt.”
Jian Yao gritted her teeth.
This wasn’t about whether it hurt or not.
It was just embarrassing for her.
Besides, how could he massage her legs?
He was Gu Zhiyan!
The brilliant and charming, the darling of heaven, Gu Zhiyan.
His movements were not heavy, and it didn’t hurt, but it was itchy and numb.
Jian Yao looked down and saw Gu Zhiyan’s curved fingers gently circling her ankle, the veins on the back of his hand were full of strength, forming a strong contrast with her ankle.
The atmosphere in the carriage became subtle, as if the air was becoming thinner.
She suppressed the urge to pull her leg back and tried to find a topic to divert her attention.
“Thank you for today. When are you going to get the marriage certificate?”
As soon as she said it, Jian Yao wished she could slap herself. She quickly explained, “Don’t get me wrong, I mean… you’ve already done what you promised me, and now it’s my turn to keep my promise…”
Gu Zhiyan’s hands continued to move, a hint of a smile appeared in his eyes, his tone nonchalant, “I know Miss Jian is a person who keeps her word, no misunderstanding.”
He looked up, his eyes ambiguous as he looked at Jian Yao, “But Miss Jian, why are you so flustered?”
Jian Yao had been quite frank, but after being swept by Gu Zhiyan’s gaze, she actually felt a little guilty.
But she wouldn’t lose face, she stiffened her neck, taking the opportunity to take back her foot, her chin raised in a righteous manner, “I’m not flustered, if I was flustered, I wouldn’t have brought up the matter of getting the marriage certificate.”
“Really?” With his hand empty, he withdrew the ankle he had been holding, and Gu Zhiyan instinctively clenched his hand, rubbing the remaining warmth on his fingertips.
“I was thinking that we just met a few days ago, and going to get the marriage certificate directly might make Miss Jian uncomfortable.”
Gu Zhiyan looked at his watch, it was almost four o’clock. “It’s too late today, are you free tomorrow, Miss Jian?”
Jian Yao: ???!!!
Jian Yao wanted to say, it wasn’t necessary to be so hasty.
But thinking that she had brought up the topic herself, she could only swallow her teeth and blood.
She gritted her teeth and nodded, almost squeezing out a few words from between her teeth, “If nothing unexpected happens, I’m free.”
She had taken half a month off to prepare for the engagement party, and she still had three days left.
Gu Zhiyan gave an “oh” sound, “Alright then, I’ll pick you up tomorrow.”
