Chapter 28: Brother Lu is in a Bad Mood Today
“Director Jian is here. She’s already on the elevator.”
Since her first day at work, Jian Yao had never hidden her identity.
Everyone in Lu Corporation had already assumed that Jian Yao was the future Mrs. Lu. Even with Liu Yiyi constantly vying for attention, everyone believed that Jian Yao, the childhood sweetheart and perfect match, was the true wife.
And Jian Yao, in turn, never took Liu Yiyi seriously.
They all treated Liu Yiyi as a joke, waiting for the day when Jian Yao would finally lose her patience, unleash her fury, and deal with Liu Yiyi once and for all.
So, after the news of Liu Yaozong’s blunder spread from the President’s Secretary Office last night, everyone in the company was eagerly anticipating Jian Yao’s triumphant return.
The receptionist had even promised to notify everyone the moment Jian Yao entered the company.
As soon as the message was sent, the group chat exploded.
“Really? What’s Director Jian’s expression? Is she really angry?”
“First, her engagement party was ruined by Liu Yiyi, and now Liu Yaozong messed up a project he was responsible for. If I were Director Jian, I’d want to kill Liu Yiyi.”
“I’ve disliked Liu Yiyi for a long time. She thinks she’s above everyone else just because she saved President Lu. She’s bullied the secretaries in the Secretary Office several times.”
“Should we make a bet? Let’s bet whether Director Jian will swallow her anger and let it go this time.”
“I’ll bet 50 that Director Jian won’t break up with the President Lu…”
…
Inside the elevator, Jian Yao watched the floor numbers rise, completely unaware of the chaos her arrival had caused in the company group chat.
She took out her phone and scrolled through the company’s main group, trying to find any clues about the Li project.
Unfortunately, the usually lively group was eerily silent, with no new messages.
But sometimes, the calmest waters are the most dangerous.
Jian Yao looked at the elevator approaching the top floor, exited WeChat, and turned off her phone.
The elevator doors opened slowly, and Jian Yao stepped out, carrying her bag.
Assistant Lin was scolding a few secretaries in the Secretary Office when he heard the elevator doors open. He turned around, his eyes lighting up when he saw Jian Yao. He quickly walked towards her.
“Miss Jian, you’re finally here. President Lu is furious and is in his office now.”
Jian Yao simply hummed in response, looking at the few secretaries who were sobbing. She tilted her chin slightly. “What’s going on?”
Assistant Lin followed her gaze and explained in a low voice, “They leaked company secrets. President Lu wants to give them three months’ salary and let them go.”
Jian Yao’s gaze swept across the secretaries’ faces, settling on Assistant Lin. “You didn’t try to persuade him?”
The position of President’s Assistant was not something that could be filled easily. Even if they found a new one, it wouldn’t be as efficient as having the old one.
Firing these people, did he expect Liu Yiyi to manage the entire Secretary Office?
Jian Yao didn’t need to say anything. Assistant Lin knew Liu Yiyi’s capabilities all too well.
Assistant Lin gave an awkward smile. “You know President Lu’s temper. I’m afraid you’ll have to say a few good words.”
Liu Yiyi was technically a secretary, but in reality, the President was just keeping her around as a decorative piece. She didn’t do any real work, and the other assistants handled her tasks. If she were to take over the entire Secretary Office, Assistant Lin couldn’t even imagine the consequences.
Jian Yao looked at Assistant Lin with a deep, unreadable expression.
Was he trying to make her the scapegoat again, to be the one who bore the brunt of Lu Chengze’s anger?
She didn’t say a word, bypassing Assistant Lin and heading towards the CEO’s office.
Assistant Lin and the other assistants watched Jian Yao’s back and breathed a collective sigh of relief.
With Director Jian on the case, the problem should be solved quickly.
Only Jian Yao’s words could reach Lu Zong’s ears at this time.
Here, Jian Yao stopped at the door of the CEO’s office and gently knocked.
Even through the door, she could hear Lu Chengze’s roar, “Get out!”
Jian Yao put down her hand and turned the doorknob directly.
The moment the door opened, a glass filled with coffee was thrown towards her, narrowly missing her.
The glass shattered upon impact, and the hot coffee spilled onto Jian Yao’s skirt, leaving behind brown stains.
Jian Yao, startled by the sudden turn of events, took a step back and steadied herself by holding onto the doorframe.
The moment Lu Chengze saw it was Jian Yao, he sat up from his chair, a flicker of worry and regret flashing in his eyes. “Why is it you?”
Liu Yiyi, noticing the change in Lu Chengze’s expression, quickly suppressed the hint of schadenfreude in her heart and put on a worried look, quickly stepping forward.
“Sister Jian, are you okay?”
She affectionately took Jian Yao’s wrist, speaking softly, “Lu Gege is in a bad mood today, he didn’t mean to target you, don’t misunderstand.”
As she spoke, she deliberately adjusted her posture, revealing a large expanse of skin on her neck. The six-pointed star necklace on her neck shone with a cold white light under the reflection of the lights.
Dazzling and blinding.
Hearing Liu Yiyi’s words, Lu Chengze remembered Jian Yao’s recent coldness and defiance towards him, the guilt in his eyes dissipated, and he slowly sat back down in his chair.
“Yiyi, you go down first, don’t bother with her.”
Liu Yiyi, hearing Lu Chengze’s words, nodded obediently. Before leaving, she gave Jian Yao a provocative look from a position where Lu Chengze couldn’t see.
In the past, Jian Yao would have been heartbroken even if she pretended to be indifferent to Liu Yiyi’s provocation.
Now, in just a few days, Liu Yiyi’s taunts no longer stirred any ripples in her heart.
After the door closed behind her, Jian Yao brushed off her skirt and stepped forward.
“Mr. Lu, is there something you need?”
Lu Chengze closed his eyes and leaned back in his chair, pressing his fingers against his temples. The fatigue of recent days made him unwilling to engage with Jian Yao, so he went straight to the point.
“The Lu Corporation and Li Corporation’s joint project has run into problems, you should know about it, right?”
He closed his eyes, his long eyelashes couldn’t hide the bluish-grey under his eyes, his voice heavy with fatigue. “The Li Corporation’s project has always been your responsibility, I’m handing this over to you, any objections?”
Jian Yao pursed her lips. “Mr. Lu, can you tell me what went wrong first?”
“If it’s something I’m responsible for, I won’t shirk it.”
She was planning to leave Lu Corporation, that’s true, but business is business, she wouldn’t let her personal feelings for Lu Chengze affect her work.
As soon as she finished speaking, she could clearly feel Lu Zhiyan’s aura stiffen for a moment.
He lowered his massaging hand and looked up at Jian Yao, his eyes flickering.
“The warehouse sent the wrong goods, it’s not a big problem, just give Mr. Li a call and ask him for more time, I’ll give him a satisfactory answer.”
