Chapter 57: Losing to Gu Zhiyan Isn’t Shameful
Wu Yue didn’t know when he had drifted off to sleep.
He was woken up by Assistant Lin’s relentless phone calls.
As soon as he answered, Assistant Lin’s loud voice boomed from the other end.
“The company is in a huge mess, where are you and Mr. Lu?”
He seemed impatient even for Wu Yue’s answer, “Forget it, wherever you are, get back to the company immediately!”
Before he could hang up, Wu Yue quickly spoke, “But we’re at the hospital!”
“Mr. Lu had a stomach bleed yesterday afternoon because of the loan negotiations with the bank, he’s still unconscious.”
Assistant Lin fell silent on the other end for a moment.
“Give me the hospital address.”
While waiting for Assistant Lin to arrive at the hospital, Wu Yue quickly opened Weibo and saw the trending topic about Lu’s company.
【Lu’s company suspected of selling substandard products, amount involved eight billion, Li’s company may file a lawsuit】
【Lu’s company’s public relations department clarifies that this incident was due to the new warehouse manager’s insubordination, and a report has been filed.】
Because of the large amount involved and Li’s company’s pushing the issue, the topic had already reached the top three on the trending list.
The comments were filled with anger.
“Eight billion, you’re telling me it’s the warehouse manager’s fault?”
“I get it, I get it, all companies do this kind of public relations, whenever something happens, it’s either a temporary worker or a new employee.”
“Lu’s is such a big company, how could they let a newcomer be the warehouse manager? I don’t believe it!”
“My coworker’s sister works at Lu’s, I heard that the warehouse manager is the brother of Lu’s secretary, you know what I mean.”
…
The comments were scrolling rapidly, Wu Yue felt increasingly alarmed as he scrolled.
Li’s company was really ruthless, directly exposing the matter online and even filing a lawsuit against Lu’s?
And what was the meaning of the statement released by the company’s public relations department?
Mr. Lu was still lying in the hospital, without his authorization, who gave them the right to issue a statement privately?
He clicked into the company group chat, hoping to get some information.
But he found the group unusually quiet today, no one was saying anything.
Wu Yue sat dejectedly on the hospital bed.
The company was in trouble.
It must be a big problem.
That’s why everyone in the group was even afraid to gossip.
After all, when Lu Chengze and Jian Yao had a falling out last time, they were all eager to watch the drama unfold.
Now they were all too scared to even fart.
Wu Yue rubbed his messy hair, feeling overwhelmed.
Assistant Lin arrived faster than expected.
He practically ran into the ward, asking, “Is Mr. Lu awake?”
Wu Yue got up from the bed, just about to say no, when he saw the person on the opposite bed had already opened his eyes.
His black eyes stared blankly at the ceiling, like a corpse that couldn’t find peace, devoid of any life.
He seemed unaware of Assistant Lin’s arrival or their conversation.
Wu Yue, emboldened, walked over and waved his hand in front of his eyes.
Ah! Still alive!
He can still blink.
Assistant Lin glanced at Lu Chengze on the bed, then turned to Wu Yue with a questioning look, “What’s going on?”
Didn’t they say he had a stomach bleed?
Why did he look like he puked his brains out?
Wu Yue squeezed his eyes shut, his messy hair and panda eyes making him look even more exhausted, and mouthed the word “Jian Yao.”
Assistant Lin’s brows furrowed so tightly they could kill a fly.
“It’s already this late, and you’re still moping around?”
He stepped over Wu Yue and looked at Lu Chengze on the bed, saying coldly, “Mr. Lu, Li’s company refuses to give us any time to recover. Now, the news of Lu’s company selling substandard products has gone viral.”
Lu Chengze lay on the bed, unresponsive.
Lin, his assistant, continued, “The shareholders are all at the company. They’re waiting in the president’s office for an explanation. Can you please wake up?”
Wu Yue stood aside, his eyelids twitching at Lin’s words.
He kept winking at Assistant Lin, but the latter ignored him.
Usually, he didn’t say anything when Wu Yue favored Liu Yiyi or argued with Jian Yao.
But now, this wasn’t the time for him to be childish.
Jian Yao was married.
That was a fact.
Although he was Lu Chengze’s man, to be fair, anyone with a brain would choose Gu Zhiyan over Lu Chengze.
The only thing special about Lu Chengze was perhaps the past ten years of friendship.
But no one could live on memories forever.
That affection had long been eroded by Lu Chengze’s own actions.
Lin sighed, feeling exhausted, “Give up, Mr. Lu.
Jian Yao is already married. Losing to Gu Zhiyan is not shameful.”
The words “Jian Yao” seemed to trigger a switch in him.
The man who had been unresponsive finally turned his head.
“I know.”
Lin and Wu Yue exchanged glances.
What did he know?
He looked at Assistant Lin and Wu Yue with a blank stare, his lifeless eyes regaining a new light. “The other day on the street, when she questioned me, I shouldn’t have defended Liu Yiyi.
I shouldn’t have used Liu Yiyi to provoke her.”
Actually, those words weren’t his true intention.
But he was too angry.
Especially when he saw her standing with Gu Zhiyan, all his reason crumbled, and he spoke without thinking.
Lu Chengze had been drinking heavily yesterday, and he had vomited a lot. He hadn’t had a drop of water since then. His throat felt like sandpaper, and his lips were cracked and bleeding with every movement.
But he seemed to feel no pain, no blood, and continued talking to himself.
“I should have apologized and admitted my mistakes. It was wrong of me to keep Liu Yiyi. It was also wrong of me to skip the engagement party for Liu Yiyi. I should have apologized, I should have apologized.”
Jian Yao was right.
He actually knew everything all these years.
He knew Liu Yiyi was scheming and deliberately targeting Jian Yao.
He was arrogant, thinking he could control everything, wanting to tame Jian Yao, wanting her to submit to him, wanting her to be as docile as Liu Yiyi.
He was wrong.
He really knew he was wrong.
The more he spoke, the more blood flowed from his cracked lips.
Wu Yue couldn’t bear to watch anymore, so he poured a glass of warm water and handed it to him, “Drink some water first.”
Lu Chengze suddenly sat up, pushing away Wu Yue’s hand, “I’m going to find Jian Yao, to explain everything to her.
It’s only been a few days. She couldn’t have fallen for someone else in just a few days. She’s just angry at me, so she deliberately found Gu Zhiyan, who I hate the most.
Yes, that must be it.
That must be it.”
He seemed to be possessed, talking to himself as he rushed towards the door.
Lin watched coldly, snatched the water glass from Wu Yue, poured the warm water onto his face, and said coldly, “Are you awake now?”
