Chapter 63: “V me fifty, I’ll tell you a big melon”
From childhood to adulthood, Gu Zhiyan had only made a handful of embarrassing moments, all of which were recorded in this photo album.
In his eyes, this was not a photo album at all, but a chronicle of his childhood humiliations.
Jian Yao hadn’t expected such a strong reaction from Gu Zhiyan just because she was looking at a photo album.
Jian Yao turned to look at the photo album that Gu Zhiyan was holding down, her moist lips gently pursed.
It wasn’t something she absolutely had to see, but now that her curiosity was piqued, what could she do?
Jian Yao pinched the corner of the album, stubbornly puffing out her cheeks in a rare display of defiance, silently facing off against Gu Zhiyan’s hand.
Seeing that she was clearly determined to see it, Gu Zhiyan chuckled helplessly. Taking advantage of his height and long legs, he covered Jian Yao’s eyes with one hand while gently pushing aside her fingers with the other, successfully retrieving the album.
The girl’s long, slender lashes brushed against the palm of Gu Zhiyan’s hand like feathers, sending a subtle current that traveled from his palm straight to his heart.
He paused in his breath, his heartbeat skipped a beat, his Adam’s apple bobbed, and his voice was hoarse, “You can’t see it yet.”
“Why?” Jian Yao stubbornly reached out, groping around, trying to get the album back from Gu Zhiyan.
However, Gu Zhiyan slightly rose to his feet, raised his hand, and directly hid the album on the top shelf of the bookcase, making sure Jian Yao couldn’t reach it before releasing his hand from her eyes.
“Why can’t I see it? You’ll know when you see it later.”
The first thing Jian Yao did after regaining her freedom was to search for the album. Seeing that it was hidden, she glared at Gu Zhiyan with dissatisfaction, her cheeks puffed out.
Like a grumpy pufferfish.
Gu Zhiyan couldn’t help but reach out and ruffle her hair, “Let’s go, it should be almost dinner time.”
Jian Yao straightened her messed-up hair, seeing the servants coming and going outside through the screen, already preparing the dining room. She took one last look at the bookcase before muttering.
“Let’s go.”
She couldn’t let her grandmother and mother wait too long.
In the living room, Gu’s mother was indeed greeting everyone to take their seats in the dining room. Seeing Jian Yao and Gu Zhiyan emerge from the tea room one after another, Jian Yao’s hair was still a little messed up, and a smile spread across her mother’s eyes.
She discreetly helped Jian Yao fix her hair and led her towards the dining room.
Before leaving, she didn’t forget to glare at Gu Zhiyan behind them.
Gu Zhiyan: …
He knew his mother must have misunderstood something.
But this kind of thing was hard to explain, so he could only clear his throat and follow them into the dining room.
The Gu family had a large number of people, but thankfully the dining room was also big enough to accommodate them. It took three tables to fit everyone.
As for the few dishes made by the old lady herself, they were all placed in front of Jian Yao.
The old lady and Gu’s mother had their eyes only on Jian Yao the entire time.
Gu Zhiyan, as one of the protagonists, was pushed far to the side, not even getting a seat next to Jian Yao.
After dinner, the uncles and aunts left one after another, and Jian Yao stayed behind to drink digestive tea with the old lady.
“You and Ayan are finally back, why don’t you stay for the night? The rooms are all ready for you.”
Jian Yao held her cup, turning to look at Gu Zhiyan.
Gu Zhiyan: “I didn’t bring any clothes when I came today, maybe next time.”
Gu’s mother gave him a cold look, and the old lady immediately clutched her chest and said she had chest pain.
As soon as Jian Yao saw the old lady say she had chest pain, her heart immediately went up.
She remembered that Gu Zhiyan had agreed to cooperate with her because the old lady was in poor health and wanted to see her grandson get married.
Speaking of which, playing the role of a loving couple with Gu Zhiyan in front of the Gu family was also one of her responsibilities.
Seeing that Gu Zhiyan was about to speak, Jian Yao immediately reached out, gently tugging at his sleeve, shaking her head slightly at him.
After stopping Gu Zhiyan, Jian Yao took the initiative to sit beside the old lady, reaching out to smooth her back, “Since grandma has already prepared everything, we’ll stay for the night.”
As soon as the old lady heard Jian Yao agree, her chest pain disappeared, and she immediately beamed with joy, pulling her towards her room.
“My dear granddaughter still cares about me, come, let’s go to my room and chat.”
When only the mother and son were left in the living room, Gu’s Mother finally asked the question that had been lingering in her heart for a long time.
“What’s going on between you, Yao Yao, and that boy from the Lu family?”
The engagement was so rushed before that she couldn’t find a chance to ask her son alone. She always felt that he wasn’t a careless person, and this girl was also good, so she held back until now.
Gu Zhiyan leaned lazily on the sofa, the white light from the incandescent lamp above cast a shadow on his deep-set features.
He seemed to hesitate for a moment, not knowing where to start, and after a long pause, he replied, “Remember when I got into a fight in high school? It was her who helped me…”
Gu Zhiyan told everything he could in a few words. Now, when he mentioned the struggle of those years, his tone was a little relieved.
“You know what happened later.”
“Lu Chengze didn’t cherish her, so don’t blame me for stepping in and taking her away.”
He finished speaking, his back straightened slightly, his sword-like eyebrows slightly furrowed, “Yao Yao doesn’t know about this…”
He didn’t want his family to have any misgivings about Jian Yao because of her past relationship with Lu Chengze.
“I know, I know.” Gu’s Mother interrupted him, giving him a sideways glance, “What do you think I am?”
She just dated a scumbag, it’s not like she has a criminal record.
This is called “a blessed daughter doesn’t enter a house without blessings.”
Gu’s Mother didn’t think there was anything wrong with Jian Yao at all. Instead, she was worried about her son.
This child is also very secretive. He doesn’t make a sound, and there are men all around him.
The family even thought he was gay!
If Jian Yao really stayed with that boy from the Lu family, wouldn’t Ayan be a monk for the rest of his life?
Gu Zhiyan chuckled, already expecting his mother’s open-mindedness.
If she were a traditional, feudal woman, he would have had a different story to tell today.
Gu’s Mother put down her cup and got up, “Alright, your room is still the one you used to live in. It’s already been cleaned up. You go back yourself.”
She was about to leave, not even wanting to look at Gu Zhiyan for a second longer.
Gu Zhiyan raised his eyebrows, “Where are you going?”
Who was it who said he had grown wings and wouldn’t return to the old house?
Now that he’s back, this is the treatment he gets?
“Where am I going?” Gu’s Mother looked at him like he was an idiot, “I’m going to call someone to send some clothes over. You have clothes at home, but Yao Yao doesn’t!”
This is a good chance to buy some more, so it will be convenient for her to come back and stay in the future.
Gu Zhiyan watched his mother’s quick departure, lightly “tsk”ed, his black eyes sparkling like stars in the light.
The phone on the table vibrated, a message from Pei Yi.
Pei Yi: “V me 50, I’ll tell you a big melon.”
Gu Zhiyan: “Say it.”
Pei Yi: “You’re so boring.”
He complained, but he couldn’t hold it in himself, his fingers flying across the keyboard.
Pei Yi: “I just got some inside information. Lu Corporation has had a large number of orders returned, resulting in huge losses. The shareholders went to Lu Corporation early this morning to demand an explanation from Lu Chengze.”
Gu Zhiyan lowered his eyes and stared at these words for a few seconds, replying calmly, “So?”
Pei Yi had already prepared himself for Gu Zhiyan’s disdain or schadenfreude.
But just that?
So?
Is this the attitude one should have towards a down-and-out love rival?
Get hyped up!
