Chapter 7: If You Like It, You Can Hold It
Everyone was in the same circle, seeing each other all the time. It seemed a bit rude not to notify them.
But if they did notify them, what if the Lu family deliberately came to make a scene on the day of the engagement? It would be even more disgusting.
Jian Ning’s beautiful peach blossom eyes narrowed as she looked at the two people huddled together writing invitations.
They were equally talented and attractive, and the atmosphere was harmonious. If Jian Ning didn’t know they were a temporary couple, they would have been a perfect match.
“That kid from the Lu family can go to Shanghai to find a woman without a sound, and the Lu family doesn’t need to know about the engagement ceremony being changed.”
Secretary Li was an old employee of the Jian family, a former confidant of Jian’s father.
He was considered a non-material cultural heritage left to his daughters.
Although he was only in his thirties, he had always treated Jian Yao and Jian Ning like his own daughters. Hearing Jian Ning’s decision, he didn’t hesitate for a moment and immediately nodded.
He even let out a long sigh of relief, with a sense of triumph.
The second Miss, who had been suffering from eye problems for many years, had finally completely recovered.
Gu Zhiyan had been practicing calligraphy since he was a child, and his brushstrokes were both fast and good, with a strong sense of style.
Jian Yao was grinding ink on the side, praising him, “Your handwriting is so beautiful.”
Gu Zhiyan put the newly written invitation aside to dry the ink and moved his right wrist.
“I was impatient when I was young, so to cultivate my temperament, I learned from my grandfather. Later, when I grew up, I developed the habit of practicing calligraphy, so it’s still presentable.”
Seeing him move his wrist, Jian Yao realized that unknowingly, Gu Zhiyan had almost finished writing all the invitations for the Jian family. She felt a little embarrassed.
“Are you tired? You can rest for a while, I’ll write.”
Actually, they didn’t need to do these chores themselves. They had already made an appointment with a master calligrapher in advance. They only needed to write a few for the closest people, just for formality, and the rest could be left to the master.
Gu Zhiyan shook his head, his shimmering eyes swept over Jian Yao’s face, “No need, some things are more meaningful when done by yourself.”
As he spoke, Assistant Xu just came out of the study with the newly printed list of Gu’s family members for Gu Zhiyan to check.
After confirming, Gu Zhiyan handed it to Jian Yao, slowly curving his lips, “For the Gu family, I’ll trouble my fiancée.”
Gu Zhiyan’s tone was serious and formal, even though Jian Yao knew they were just cooperating, she couldn’t help but feel her cheeks flush. She took the document Gu Zhiyan handed her and mumbled, “Okay.”
Jian Ning, who had just come over to call them for dinner, looked at her silly younger sister and then at Gu Zhiyan, whose eyes were deep.
Although Jian Yao had already explained that she was the one who took the initiative to approach Gu Zhiyan, Jian Ning always felt that things weren’t that simple.
If you could just grab Gu Zhiyan home at random while drunk, how could it be Jian Yao’s turn?
Don’t be ridiculous!
Seeing that her younger sister was about to be hypnotized by the other’s smile, Jian Ning coughed lightly, clearing her throat, “Let’s eat first.”
Hearing her sister’s voice, Jian Yao subconsciously straightened her back, her voice sweet and soft, “Coming right away.”
Noticing Jian Yao’s reaction, Gu Zhiyan’s raised lips slightly retracted. He put down his pen and calmly put on his watch.
After Jian Ning turned around, he said in a low voice, “Did your sister bully you?”
Jian Yao’s eyes flashed with a trace of confusion, and she instinctively shook her head, “No!”
Although in the eyes of outsiders, Jian Yao, as the real daughter of the Jian family, was a poor little cabbage who was not loved by her father or mother.
But Jian Yao herself knew very well that after returning to the Jian family, her family had never treated her unfairly.
Including Jian Ning, who was like a ferocious beast in the mouths of others.
Gu Zhiyan clicked the strap of his watch, “I saw you were so nervous every time you saw her, I thought you had been bullied.”
Perhaps Jian Yao herself hadn’t noticed that every time she saw Jian Ning, she would subconsciously tense up.
Jian Ning thought carefully for a moment and then realized, “That wasn’t nervousness, it was bloodline suppression.”
When she was in high school, she had a period of time where she was hunched over doing homework, which caused her back to be hunched. Jian Ning would scold her every time she saw her because of her posture problem.
Later, her hunchback problem was corrected, leaving her with a conditioned reflex to straighten her back whenever she saw Jian Ning.
Actually, over the years, she had explained to her sister that she was very good to her.
But people always prefer the drama of a fake and real daughter not getting along, rather than a harmonious sisterhood. They believed it on the surface, but still gossiped behind her back. Gradually, Jian Yao stopped explaining.
There was no need to waste too much energy on irrelevant people.
But looking at Gu Zhiyan beside her, Jian Yao pursed her lips, her delicate brows furrowed, her expression serious, “She’s a very good sister, I hope you don’t misunderstand her.”
She didn’t want the people around her to be prejudiced against her sister.
Meeting the girl’s troubled expression, Gu Zhiyan imitated her tone and nodded seriously, “I won’t from now on.”
In the restaurant.
Jian Yao and Gu Zhiyan sat side by side, Jian Ning sitting opposite them.
“While the invitations haven’t been sent out yet, you still have a chance to change your mind. I’ll ask you two again.”
Her probing gaze fell on the two people in front of her. “Have you thought about the consequences?”
Marriage is no small matter, and arranged marriages should be even more cautious.
Gu Zhiyan’s fingers holding the knife and fork paused slightly, and he moved the freshly cut steak to Jian Yao’s side. “Sister Ning, I’m very sure, there are absolutely no problems with me and the Gu family.”
Jian Ning’s gaze was like an X-ray, scanning Gu Zhiyan up and down, before turning to Jian Yao.
Jian Yao had been struggling with the steak, but suddenly it was replaced with a cut piece. She hadn’t even reacted yet, and she was facing her sister’s death stare, her head was a little dazed, and she “ah”ed in confusion.
Her mind was full of delicious food, and she hadn’t heard what was being asked.
Gu Zhiyan was amused by her extremely long reaction time, and leaned down to whisper in her ear, “She’s asking if you’ll regret it.”
Warm breath sprayed on her ear, along with his low, husky voice, slowly flowing through her earlobe, captivating her soul.
Jian Yao’s body tensed, her heart pounding, and she unconsciously stammered, “I… I don’t regret it…”
As she said this, she clearly felt the gaze on her from the person beside her become even more intense.
Jian Yao didn’t dare look at him, she wanted to fork a piece of steak to eat, but suddenly remembered that it was cut by Gu Zhiyan, so she hurriedly put down the knife and fork, picked up the milk next to her and took a sip.
Jian Ning looked at her helpless appearance and sighed softly, her fork picked up a piece of steak from the plate and took a bite.
Jian Yao usually didn’t live in the old mansion, after writing the invitations, the two of them got in the car with Jian Ning’s farewell.
Before the car started, Secretary Li’s voice could already be heard from behind.
“Ms. Jian is in a good mood today, everyone’s salary this month is tripled!”
Amidst the cheers and firecrackers, the black Bentley slowly drove out.
Because Jian Ning had poured him wine during the banquet, Gu Zhiyan’s cheeks were slightly flushed. He tugged at his tie, unbuttoned the button at his collar, his long fingers glowed white under the light.
Jian Yao watched intently.
No one knew that she was actually a hand fetishist.
She thought that Lu Chengze’s hands were smooth, with long bones, and were already the best, but Gu Zhiyan’s hands were even better.
Thinking of Lu Chengze, Jian Yao felt a little choked in her heart. It wasn’t that she still missed Lu Chengze, but she felt that her ten years of dedication were not worth it.
Seeing her gaze for a long time, Gu Zhiyan turned his head to look at her, scrutinized her expression, then looked at his own hand and extended it to Jian Yao.
“Since you’re my fiancée, you can hold it if you like.”
