Chapter 73: Okay, I’ll Give Him a Boost
Xiaoxiang Mansion is a famous private restaurant in Beijing, known for its expensive prices and high-end ingredients. It attracts many prominent figures and is known for its tranquility.
However, the entrance to Xiaoxiang Mansion was unusually noisy today.
Lu Chengze, supported by Wu Yue, had a face as red as blood. He leaned against a pillar on the first floor, retching repeatedly.
Several staff members stood in a row nearby, holding mouthwash and towels, ready to assist at any moment.
The head waiter looked at Lu Chengze, whose eyes were glazed over and bloodshot, with concern. He turned to Wu Yue, “Vice President Wu, should we arrange a room for you and let Mr. Lu sober up?”
Wu Yue struggled to hold Lu Chengze up, his face grim, “No need, I’ve already called someone to pick him up. They should be here soon.”
As he spoke, he took a bottle of water, intending to rinse Lu Chengze’s mouth later, and told the others to disperse.
Lu Chengze was completely drunk and unconscious, clutching the newly signed contract tightly in his hand.
He had drunk more than usual to secure the loan contract.
Wu Yue felt a pang of heartache as he looked at Lu Chengze’s current state.
Lu Ge, who was always the most proud person, when had he ever been so humiliated in front of others?
He had just been hospitalized for a gastric hemorrhage, and now he was risking his life for a loan contract?
Wu Yue took a deep breath and suppressed the moisture in his eyes.
When Lin, the assistant, and the driver got out of the car, Wu Yue was already exhausted and flushed.
Despite this, as soon as Lin and the driver took over Lu Chengze, he still endured the pain in his arm and twisted open the bottle cap to rinse Lu Chengze’s mouth.
The icy liquid went down his throat, and Lu Chengze’s scattered gaze finally refocused.
Before Wu Yue could breathe a sigh of relief, the restaurant door behind him opened again, and the head waiter’s voice rang out once more. This time, however, there was a hint of flattery in his tone.
“Mr. Gu, Mr. Xu, please take care on your way out, mind your step.”
The sky was already dark, and the lantern-shaped warm lights at the entrance of Xiaoxiang Mansion had been fully lit.
Gu Zhiyan and Xu Yao walked out of the hall one after the other, both with warm and polite smiles on their faces.
Xu Yao’s face was practically beaming, his voice brimming with excitement, “Mr. Gu, rest assured, it is an honor for our Xu family to have the opportunity to cooperate with you. We will not let you down.”
Gu Zhiyan’s smile remained unchanged, and he extended his hand to shake Xu Yao’s, “Mr. Xu, no need to be modest. Your sister is very close to my wife. To be able to raise such a daughter, I believe the Xu family has good judgment and ability.”
These words finally put Xu Yao’s anxious heart at ease.
He had been trying to get in touch with Gu for this collaboration for so long, but they had always been ambiguous. Now, suddenly, they had received a message from Gu ,inviting him to Xiaoxiang Mansion.
Gu Zhiyan had even come in person. So it was all thanks to Jian Yao.
Xu Yao shook Gu Zhiyan’s hand, a hint of complexity in his smile, “My sister is a bit impulsive, it’s only because of Yao… Mrs. Gu’s good temper that she can play with her. Mr. Gu, you flatter me.”
When Wu Yue heard the words “Mr. Gu,” he reflexively turned his head.
The man at the head of the group walked towards them, backlit by the bright lights of the hall, casting a dazzling halo around him.
Even though he couldn’t see his face clearly, Wu Yue could recognize Gu Zhiyan’s voice.
He was afraid that Lu Chengze would hear the voices coming from behind, see Gu Zhiyan and go on a drunken rampage, so he quickly closed the bottle cap and urged Lin and the driver to take Lu Chengze away.
However, it was already too late.
Lu Chengze had already heard Gu Zhiyan’s voice behind him and turned to look.
The moment he saw Gu Zhiyan, an indescribable force erupted from his body. He broke free from the grip of his assistant Lin and the driver, charging towards Gu Zhiyan.
Unfortunately, intoxicated as he was, he was unable to walk without their support. He took two steps forward, propelled by inertia, before losing his balance and falling towards the ground.
Wu Yue dashed forward, catching him before he could fall. The force of the impact caused him to half-kneel, but at least he prevented Lu Chengze from taking a hard fall.
When Gu Zhiyan and Xu Yao noticed the commotion, they saw Lu Chengze charging towards them like an enraged beast.
Xu, the assistant, instinctively stepped forward, his gaze wary as he looked at Lu Chengze and his entourage, his arm tensed at his side.
This was the guy who almost hit Gu with his car last time. Who knew what he might do this time?
Gu Zhiyan raised his hand, signaling Xu to step back. His cold eyes swept over Lu Chengze on the ground, ignoring him as he bid farewell to Xu Si.
This dismissive attitude was worse than killing Lu Chengze.
He ignored the pain in his knee and the scraped palm, the contract he had been clutching tightly just moments ago discarded on the ground. He looked up, his eyes fierce, and glared at Gu Zhiyan.
“Gu Zhiyan! You’re taking advantage of my… mmph!”
He never finished his sentence. Lin, the assistant, stuffed a towel in his mouth and pressed him down firmly.
Wu Yue and the driver were stunned for a moment before reacting. They rushed forward to restrain the struggling Lu Chengze, dragging him into the car as quickly as possible.
Lin walked behind, picking up the scattered documents. Before getting in the car, he gave Gu Zhiyan and Xu Yao a sheepish smile of apology.
In the car, Lu Chengze continued to struggle in the backseat. The driver was in the front, and Wu Yue alone couldn’t subdue him.
Seeing Lin enter, he immediately asked for help, “Quick, help hold him down.”
He hadn’t eaten or slept properly for days. He didn’t know what was wrong, but as soon as he saw Gu Zhiyan, he was like he’d taken a stimulant.
He had boundless energy.
Especially since he hadn’t rested properly for a long time, his eyes were bloodshot. When he struggled, his contorted expression looked like he was about to mutate.
Wu Yue had good reason to suspect that if his mouth wasn’t stuffed, he would jump up and bite someone the next second.
Lin directly closed the car door, locked the central control, and looked at Lu Chengze with a blank expression. He quietly took out a nylon rope from behind.
“Hold him down, I’ll give him some strength.”
Wu Yue watched as Lin expertly twisted Lu Chengze’s hands behind his back, wrapped the nylon rope around them, and tied him up effortlessly. He even thoughtfully tied a bow, manually closing his jaw.
“Do you remember he’s your boss?”
Lin casually organized the loan contract he had just received, carefully checking it over. “What’s there to be afraid of? He’s drunk, isn’t he?”
“If you don’t say anything, I don’t say anything, how will he know?”
Wu Yue was choked. Looking at Lu Chengze with the towel stuffed in his mouth and the rope tied around his wrists, he smacked his lips. “You’re getting more and more hardcore.”
Whether it was the wind he’d caught earlier, the effect of the alcohol, or simply that Lu Chengze had gotten tired of struggling, he gradually calmed down and fell into a deep sleep.
Wu Yue couldn’t bear to see him like that, so he untied him, took out the towel from his mouth, and fed him some honey water he had prepared beforehand to help him sober up.
The Xiaoxiang Mansion was only about half an hour away from Lu Chengze’s current residence. With the traffic jam, it took more than forty minutes to reach the neighborhood.
It was a high-end neighborhood, brightly lit at the entrance. From a distance, they saw a slender girl standing near the entrance, seemingly waiting for someone.
Wu Yue squinted his eyes and took a closer look. “Is that Liu Yiyi?”
