Chapter 182. Demons and Monsters (6) Peach Tree Spirit
The two little stone monster rolled and rolled, falling into a pit over two thousand meters deep. Before long, they broke through the Hidden Spirit Array and the Gathering Spirit Array. In an instant, they were enveloped by dense wood-based spiritual energy, and the tiny stone monster’s weak breath was relieved.
The system sound rang again in Ye Mo’s ears: 【Main Quest 2: Rescue fellow beings (2/10000).】
At the same time, the two little stone monster witnessed a large amount of soil and rocks falling down from the top of the pit, but they stopped about 3 meters from the center of the pit, creating a small square space buried underground. It was unbelievable, truly miraculous.
The banyan tree spirit’s aerial roots caused the ground below to vibrate. The two little stone monster not caring about their joy and confusion, simultaneously activated their innate skill – camouflage as ordinary stones.
Unbeknownst to the two stone monsters, Ye Mo, above them, had created multiple stone chambers of similar or even smaller size. Some chambers had spatial anchors, while others did not.
At this very moment, Ye Mo was inside one of the stone chambers, closely observing the trunk and aerial roots of the banyan tree spirit on the ground, as well as the other arriving creatures.
Soon, a problem was discovered: Hawk Eye was not omnipotent after all.
When Ye Mo used Eagle Eye to scan a specific section of the banyan tree spirit’s intertwined trunks, it seemed to trigger a sense of being watched or spied upon in the spirit.
The aerial roots, like endlessly stretching serpents, burrowed deeper into the ground at an accelerated pace.
However, when scanning the deeper roots or other passageways, the banyan tree spirit showed no such unusual reaction.
Perhaps this was related to the survival instincts of the spirit. From this reaction, Ye Mo could identify the core trunk region of the banyan tree spirit and temporarily avoid it.
The banyan tree spirit’s advance into the cave was faster than expected. The moment its aerial roots touched the first small stone chamber—about 5 cubic meters in size—and discovered the wood-attributed spirit stone at its center, the other roots surged wildly toward the same direction.
Ye Mo watched as the aerial roots filled the stone chamber in an astonishingly short time. Two wood-attributed spirit stones were swiftly entangled and absorbed, their energy mostly drained.
Boom—!
With the stone chamber at the center, explosions rippled outward in waves, blasting apart the already “honeycombed” ground.
“Aaaahhh!”
Aboveground, parts of the banyan tree spirit’s trunk and roots were torn apart, unleashing shrill, agonized screams—like a soprano in torment. Underground, countless roots convulsed as if being juiced, splattering dark green sap from the explosions.
The banyan tree spirit’s greatest strength lay in its “regeneration”. Unbroken trunks healed rapidly, while unharmed branches sprouted new aerial roots to replace the lost ones.
But its opponent wasn’t just Ye Mo.
The second batch of monsters also arrived, and They were also plant spirits similarly sensitive to wood-attribute spiritual energy. “Lush and graceful, the peach tree blooms; dazzling and radiant, its flowers glow.” Before their eyes stretched a breathtaking expanse of pink as countless peach blossoms burst into bloom along the branches.
A dazzling spectacle!
These peach tree spirits might not have been as powerful as the banyan tree spirit, but they made up for it in numbers. And with the banyan spirit already visibly wounded, they launched their attack the moment they appeared.
The peach tree branches trembled faintly—some even accompanied by giggling, bell-like laughter.
One by one, the delicate peach blossoms detached from their branches and, with lightning speed, drifted toward the banyan tree spirit’s canopy before transforming into a shower of petals that fluttered gracefully downward.
A scene straight out of a painting.
Yet these blossoms were far from harmless. Each possessed an innate illusionary power—a form of psychic attack that concealed their true nature while subjecting enemies to vivid hallucinations. The banyan tree spirit, in particular, found its recovery hampered by deceptive visions warping its perception of injuries.
It was as if a Peach Blossom Mirage had descended.
Though lacking aerial roots, the peach tree spirits compensated with an underground network of exceptionally sturdy roots that allowed rapid movement. Their branches—still heavy with blossoms—grew razor-sharp, and coupled with their illusions, they became a legion of aesthetic assassins.
Of course, the “One-Tree-Forest” banyan spirit hadn’t lived all these years for nothing. It had concealed its core trunk masterfully – whenever its aerial roots entangled peach branches, it could momentarily break free from the peach blossom illusions to counterattack.
Their battle unfolded with breathtaking brilliance, every frame a masterpiece in motion.
Because the peach tree spirit was also a psychic-type spirit, Ye Mo concealed her psychic detection extremely carefully, deliberately avoiding the banyan tree spirit’s main trunk, and used Hawk Eye to observe the battle situation on the ground.
When the third, fourth and fifth waves of monsters arrived, the fighting between banyan and peach spirits gradually slowed down .This was because they didn’t want a be “the mantis stalking the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind”, leaving their spoils for latecomers.
