Chapter 22: You Are My Significant Other
I thought we would never see each other again, but she actually found me here. I was so happy to see her, but I had to send her away. The gossip in the village is something a young girl like her can’t handle.
“Song Jingzhi, stop it.” She rushed over and hugged him, crying on his shoulder. She didn’t know any of this in her last life, not a single thing.
When she had cried enough, he helped her up and looked at her seriously, with a plea in his eyes.
“Don’t leave.” He knew that if she insisted on going back to Beijing, he wouldn’t stop her, but he would do everything in his power to pave the way for her future.
“So what’s our relationship now?” she asked.
Song Jingzhi was stunned, not expecting her to ask back.
“Song Jingzhi, are you trying to be a scoundrel? You’re holding my hand and confessing your feelings.” She jumped up.
“Significant other, you are my significant other.” He was afraid she would rush out the door, so he quickly grabbed her hand.
“What else?” She laughed through her tears, but he hadn’t said the most important thing yet.
“Whether my leg gets better or not, you will be my wife.” He knew this was what she wanted to hear most.
When Song Jingzhi actually said those words, Tang Xiaoxiao blushed.
Although she had been confessed to by many men in her last life, this was Song Jingzhi. He could say such things without changing his expression.
Was this still the pure and innocent little brother who blushed when teased?
In the kitchen, Song’s mother was cutting vegetables absentmindedly. Song’s father was afraid she would cut her hand, so he took the knife from her.
“Let me cut.”
“He’s finally come to his senses, hasn’t he?”
“Yeah.” Song’s father agreed while cutting the vegetables.
“So we’re going to have a wedding?” Song’s mother felt it was still unreal.
“We have to ask Tang Zhiqing’s parents first. We can’t rush this. Jingzhi’s leg hasn’t healed yet.”
Song’s mother looked at Song’s father. She understood what he meant. If Song Jingzhi’s leg couldn’t really heal, even if Tang Xiaoxiao was willing, their family couldn’t agree. Wouldn’t that ruin her life?
The two in the room looked at each other, neither speaking.
“I want to wash my face.” Finally, Tang Xiaoxiao broke the silence.
“I’ll get you some water.” He pushed his wheelchair out of the room.
Looking at his back, she smiled. She was very satisfied with Song Jingzhi in every way. If she were to marry anyone in this life, she would only be willing to marry him.
Now she had to think about how to give him the Jade Dew.
“What are you thinking about?”
She was still thinking when Song Jingzhi pushed his wheelchair over, a basin of water on his lap.
“Were you thinking that if I hadn’t come to Yuhucun to work in the countryside, would you have gone looking for me after your leg healed?”
His hand twisting the towel paused. “No.” After all, it was just him having a crush back then.
She glared at him. This guy couldn’t say anything nice. Even a little flattery would be fine.
“But I would have inquired about you.” To make sure you were okay.
“That’s more like it.” Hearing this, a smile appeared on her face, then she stuck out her little face, asking him to wash her face.
“Do, do it yourself. It’s not good like this.” Looking at the handsome little face in front of him, Song Jingzhi’s ears turned red again.
“If I wash it myself, I wash it myself. In the future, even if you beg me to wash it, I won’t.” She took the towel he handed her and wiped her face.
“In the future, you’ll still have to wash it.”
Hearing her words, she raised her eyebrows and looked at him. Oh, not bad. Little brother Song Jingzhi is making progress.
“Cough, I’ll go pour the water.” Taking the towel from her hand, he quickly pushed his wheelchair out.
“Haha.” She laughed unceremoniously behind him. She had seen him blush just now.
Later that evening, Song’s mother handed Tang Xiaoxiao the six hundred yuan she had gotten from the Liu family.
“Here’s the six hundred yuan. Xiaoxiao, you really stood up for us today.”
“Auntie, I’ll only take three hundred. Three hundred is Song Jingzhi’s.”
“I don’t care. That’s your business.” With that, Song’s mother left the room.
Tang Xiaoxiao took the money and counted it, preparing to count out three hundred for Song Jingzhi.
“Keep it all.” He interrupted her.
“All for me?”
“Yeah, the money was originally yours because you took action, and the Liu family had to pay up. Besides, we’re dating now, it wouldn’t make sense for you to buy meat with your own money.”
“Okay, then I’ll keep it.” She got up and went to the main room to pour him a glass of water. Taking advantage of the fact that no one was in the main room, she poured the Jade Dew into it.
“Drink some water.” She handed him the cup.
“Mm.” He took the cup and took a sip. “Did you add sugar?” Why does the water taste a little sweet today.
“No, it’s probably because this is the first glass of water I’ve poured for you as your significant other, that’s why you think it’s sweet.” She winked at him.
He smiled and finished the water. She took the teacup and watched him for any reaction.
“What’s wrong?”
“No, nothing.” She put down the cup, muttering to herself, Will it get better right away or will it take some time?
“It’s getting dark. Are you going back?” He thought she was going back to the educated youth point.
Tang Xiaoxiao froze. She had actually forgotten the time. She should have given him the Jade Dew when she came over tomorrow morning.
It was already getting dark outside. With what happened in the fields today, He Xiaoqian was probably waiting for her.
“I’ll walk you back.” Song Jingzhi said. It would be really dark if they waited any longer.
“Okay.”
He walked her to the edge of the field, watching her walk back to the educated youth point, looking back every few steps. He smiled and waved at her. What was wrong with her today? They would see each other tomorrow morning.
He didn’t go back to his room until he saw her reach the educated youth point.
“Hiss!”
“Jingzhi, what’s wrong?” Song’s father happened to be fetching water and heard his sound.
“My knee, it hurts a little, and it itches.” It felt like, like something was growing.
“What’s going on? Should we go to the hospital?” Song’s father was a little nervous. Didn’t he say it didn’t hurt anymore the other day?
“It’s okay, Dad. It should be a good sign.” He had been injured before, and these reactions during wound healing were normal. He was just afraid it would be like the other day, with no reaction at all.
“If you’re uncomfortable at night, call your dad.” Since Song Jingzhi came home to recover, Song’s father had been sleeping in the room behind his.
“Okay.”
Meanwhile, Tang Xiaoxiao had just returned to the educated youth point when she ran into Wang Erxi coming back from dinner at the Liu family.
“Tang Zhiqing, you’re really something. You’re quite impressive.” Before, Tang Xiaoxiao and Wang Erxi had kept their distance, but now Wang Erxi didn’t have a good face for her.
Wang Erxi had been hanging around Liu Dabao, although she didn’t plan on actually doing anything with him, but she didn’t know the Liu family was so rich.
The Liu family had just lost 600 yuan to Tang Xiaoxiao, and she felt like it was like cutting her own flesh.
Originally, she had been sharing meals at the Liu family, and she only had to bring her work points’ grain. Most of that grain was for the work Liu Dabao did for her. Today, Chen Fengya had bled a lot, and she actually asked her for food expenses.
If she hadn’t coaxed Liu Dabao a few more times, she might have had to pay some money this time. After all, the Liu family’s food wasn’t bad, at least they could eat meat once or twice a month.
