Embers of Love A Military Rebirth Chapter 30

Chapter 30: Remember this? It’s called “Going into the Woods”

“Take me into the woods.” She looked at him, her eyes filled with accusation.

“Huh?” At first, Song Jingzhi didn’t understand, then he realized what she meant.

He curled his lips. “Girl, going into the woods isn’t done like that.”

He then pressed her against the big tree behind her, looking down at her.

Her little face was flushed pink with shyness, her long eyelashes drooping, and tiny beads of sweat hung on her delicate nose, making her whole face look incredibly alluring, making him want to press her against the tree and bully her fiercely.

Song Jingzhi’s breathing gradually became heavier. Flames flickered in his eyes. His thin lips drew close to hers, gently rubbing against her soft, smooth cheek.

His breath sprayed against her ear, making her feel itchy. She couldn’t help but shrink her neck.

His big hand naturally landed on her slender waist, pulling her towards him.

His thin lips pressed against her smooth forehead, inching down to her delicate nose, and finally landed on her soft, sweet lips.

This time, he didn’t just taste her lightly. He savored her taste more forcefully.

Tang Xiaoxiao felt her head spinning. She felt like a fish, swimming in Song Jingzhi’s mouth.

He kissed her until she couldn’t breathe, but he couldn’t bear to let go of her.

She only felt that the air in her lungs was getting less and less, and her breathing became more and more rapid.

Suddenly, he left her lips and instead cupped her little face, his deep eyes locking onto hers.

“Remember this? It’s called going into the woods.”

Tang Xiaoxiao’s eyes were hazy. Hearing his words, she blinked hard.

Her lips were slightly swollen from his kiss, as if they were painted with a light purple rouge, making them exceptionally beautiful and moving.

Song Jingzhi’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and his eyes darkened.

“Let’s go back.” His voice was exceptionally hoarse. If they stayed any longer, something would happen.

“Okay.” Tang Xiaoxiao, whose mind was still hazy, responded passively.

He smiled, pinched her cheek, and led her down the mountain.

Song’s mother came home early today. When they arrived home, she was already busy at home.

“You’re back!” Song’s mother saw her son and daughter-in-law return, but the atmosphere was a little strange. Her son seemed very happy, and her daughter-in-law was looking down.

“What’s wrong with Xiaoxiao?”

“Ah, nothing.” Tang Xiaoxiao raised her head abruptly when she heard Song’s mother’s voice.

Song’s mother saw that her face was red and her lips were still swollen. She also remembered that they had gone up the mountain. What else could it be?

She glared at her son and pinched his arm hard. “Hurry up and help Xiaoxiao lie down on the bed for a while.”

“Huh?” Why lie down? Auntie, are you misunderstanding something?

“Okay.” Song Jingzhi didn’t explain. He put down the basket and helped Tang Xiaoxiao towards the room.

“No, Auntie…” She wanted to explain, but he had already helped her back to the room.

“Ah… Why didn’t you let me explain? Auntie must have misunderstood.” Sitting on the bed, Tang Xiaoxiao blushed and covered her face.

“Explain what? She already thinks we’re like that.”

In the village, girls and young men who are engaged are considered married and live together.

Some couples don’t even have a wedding ceremony. They just get a marriage certificate when they get pregnant.

Some don’t even get a marriage certificate. Their marriage relationship is based on a marriage contract.

“I, I should go back to the educated youth point.”

Before, she was the one who kept teasing him, but now she doesn’t dare anymore.

Especially since Song’s mother found out and misunderstood, Tang Xiaoxiao didn’t know how to face her.

She got up to leave, but he pulled her back.

“Didn’t you have a lot of courage before?” He looked at her and curled his lips.

“…” Her face immediately turned red.

“What? You don’t dare look at me anymore?”

She shook her head and looked up at him.

“Then stay here obediently, don’t go anywhere.” He held her hand.

“Okay.” She nodded.

“What to do.” He pulled her into his arms. “I don’t think I can wait until the twelfth day of the twelfth lunar month.”

Hearing his words, she pushed him, but she didn’t break free. He held her tighter.

“Don’t worry, I’ll hold on. Just don’t tease me so much.”

She lay on his chest, listening quietly to his strong heartbeat. At this moment, she felt a sense of peace.

A few days later, Tang Xiaoxiao received a package and a letter from her parents.

Tang’s parents said that they would come early for the wedding to prepare her dowry.

The package contained clothes and winter bedding for her, as well as a money order.

On the day the autumn harvest began, the work bell rang an hour earlier than usual.

Although Tang Xiaoxiao didn’t have to work, she got up when she heard the bell.

“Xiaoxiao, why are you up so early?” He Xiaoxian was surprised to see her already awake. She knew that Song Jingzhi was helping her with work.

“I couldn’t sleep. Go wash up. I’ll prepare breakfast for you and Xu Zeming.”

“Thanks. The food is in my room. Go get it.”

Today was the first day of the autumn harvest. She wanted to make them a good meal. She would take her own food from her room.

She made egg drop soup for breakfast and added an extra egg for each of them to replenish their energy.

By the time they finished washing up, Tang Xiaoxiao had already prepared breakfast.

The three of them sat in the main room and started eating breakfast. Xu Zeming was the main laborer, so she filled his bowl, He Xiaoxian’s was a full lunchbox, and hers was a small lunchbox.

She made the egg drop soup with larger egg drops so that the two workers wouldn’t get hungry later.

She watched Xu Zeming put the egg from his bowl into He Xiaoxian’s bowl. He Xiaoxian just smiled at him and lowered her head to eat.

“If you get tired later, take a break. I’ll come over and help you when I’m done.” Xu Zeming said to He Xiaoxian.

“Okay.” She nodded while eating.

“Remember to wear your gloves.”

“Okay.”

Tang Xiaoxiao felt like she was eating dog food. “What’s going on between you two?”

“Xiaoxian and I are dating.” Xu Zeming admitted frankly.

She looked back and forth between them. “Are we still friends? Why didn’t I know about this?”

“Especially you. I told you about my dating as soon as it happened.” She looked at He Xiaoxian, feeling like she had been abandoned by her friend.

“No, Xiaoxiao, it happened last night. I haven’t had a chance to tell you.” He Xiaoxian pulled her hand, looking apologetic.

“Okay.” Tang Xiaoxiao laughed. She wasn’t really angry. “Congratulations to you two.”

She was very relieved about Xu Zeming’s character.

Moreover, Xu Zeming’s conditions were good. She knew that when he went back to Xushan to deal with his family’s affairs, the government helped him recover his family’s property and he received a lot of compensation.

He Xiaoxian’s parents were both working-class families, so they were a good match.
