Chapter 22.2: Don’t sleep tonight, I’ll come find you
The Xiao family understood the hardships Su Qingning had faced over the past decade and felt sad for her, their faces showing sorrow and concern.
Xiao Huaishuo also felt a bit uncomfortable and gently patted her hand that was resting under the table.
The Su family, on the other hand, felt as if their shame had been publicly exposed. They were both angry and embarrassed, and they couldn’t help but hate Su Qingning even more.
But everyone was afraid of being beaten again. They could only fume silently, shrinking back like quails.
Only the carefree young girl, Xiao Qingya, continued to munch on the pork bones.
Looking at the Su family members, who had very unpleasant expressions, she curiously asked:
“Eh? Sister-in-law, why do they all have such long faces? Are they naturally not fond of smiling?”
“Hahaha… cough cough…”
Su Qingning couldn’t help but chuckle at this childish voice, accidentally choking and covering her mouth to cough.
In the next moment, a bony hand presented a half-new handkerchief in front of her.
Looking up, she met Xiao Huaishuo’s calm, accommodating eyes.
Su Qingning’s cheeks flushed, and she quietly muttered a thank you.
Zhang Qinxue was worried that her daughter’s unfiltered words would incur the resentment of the Su family, so she quickly shielded her in her arms.
“Oh my little ancestor! So much meat can’t keep your mouth shut!”
The table returned to a warm and cheerful atmosphere.
However, the Su family stared at the pot of delicious meat, feeling increasingly desperate.
Starving to the point of his stomach touching his back, Su Chengzhi suddenly stood up and rushed toward the Xiao family’s table, preparing to snatch that pot of meat.
A cold glint flashed in Su Qingning’s eyes.
Before she could even take action, a small stone flew out from Xiao Huaishuo’s sleeve and struck Su Chengzhi’s ankle.
Su Chengzhi lost his balance and fell flat on his face.
“Bang—”
The two-hundred-pound giant baby crashed to the ground, shaking the surrounding floor.
“Ah, ah, ah! So painful! Ah, ah, ah!”
Su Chengzhi was in immense pain and took the opportunity to lie on the ground, throwing a tantrum.
“Ah, ah, ah! I want to eat meat! Why can you all eat meat while I can only eat rotten vegetable leaves?!”
“Ah, ah, ah! You won’t let me eat? You won’t let me eat! Then none of you can eat!”
Su Chengzhi’s eyes were filled with hatred as he jumped up and rushed toward the table, ready to overturn the dishes and food, ensuring that the Xiao family couldn’t eat either!
Xiao Huaishuo felt a bit impatient.
His eyes glinted coldly, preparing to teach him a good lesson.
At that moment, Aunt Shen seemed to sense the danger and crazily rushed toward Su Chengzhi, using all her strength to drag him back.
Su Chengzhi was pulled by Aunt Shen like a garbage bag, but he was still unwilling, crying out as he walked.
“Woo, woo, woo… Mother! I want to eat meat! I don’t care, I just want to eat! Go find me some meat!”
In this day and age, even the officers hardly got to eat meat more than a few times a month, let alone the exiled criminals. How could Aunt Shen find him any meat?
She could only hand over her own steamed bun, tears in her eyes.
“Zhi’er, be good, don’t cry. Just bear with it for now and eat this bun to fill your stomach.”
Su Chengzhi looked at her with resentment and swatted the bun out of Aunt Shen’s hand.
“This bun is as hard as shit! Whoever wants to eat it can eat it; I said I want to eat meat!”
“Yes, yes, yes, meat! Mother will definitely find a way for you to eat meat.”
Aunt Shen had a face full of indulgence and flattery, whispering a few words into Su Chengzhi’s ear.
After hearing her “plan,” Su Chengzhi gradually calmed down. Still somewhat doubtful, he asked again:
“You… you really mean it?”
Aunt Shen looked at him with pity, gently patting Su Chengzhi’s back. She spoke softly:
“When has Mother ever lied to you? Leave this matter to Mother; if I say Zhi’er can eat meat, then you will definitely be able to eat.”
When she raised her head again, the expressions in Aunt Shen’s and Su Chengzhi’s eyes shifted from resentment to deep calculation.
Su Chengzhi quieted down but was still unbearably hungry. He picked up the “hard as shit” bun from the ground and began to chew on it.
The surrounding Su family members, seeing him quiet down, let out a sigh of regret in their hearts.
They had almost succeeded; they could have overturned the Xiao family’s table for not getting any meat!
Watching the Xiao family eat delicious food was even more unbearable than being hungry themselves!
Su Qingning slowly sipped the delicious meat soup her grandmother had served her, ignoring the resentment and calculations in the eyes of the Su family.
Having lived two lives, she had seen many people who couldn’t stand her yet couldn’t do anything to her. And weren’t they still living well?!
If these people had that kind of courage, they might as well come dance in front of her.
She would definitely let them see what it meant to have a path to heaven that you refuse to take, while hell has no door yet you come in by yourself!
After the Xiao family finished their meal contentedly, they cleared the dishes and returned to their rooms.
Seeing that no one was paying attention to her, Su Qingning quietly leaned close to Xiao Huaishuo’s ear and whispered:
“Don’t sleep tonight; I’ll come find you.”
