Once the hundred or so beasts had completely entered the Beast Realm, the two-row formation continued forward.
They had to cross a chasm.
The chasm was thousands of meters high, covered in a fog so dense that visibility was less than a hundred meters.
Only after crossing the chasm would they truly step onto the territory of the Beast Realm.
The chasm was made up of two nearly vertical cliffs, connected by a narrow suspension bridge wide enough for only one row of beasts to pass at a time.
The voice of the wolf king came from the front of the group: “Cross the suspension bridge, and merge the two teams into one!”
The combined team moved slowly forward.
As they approached the opposite bank, Qin Ruqing saw that there were beasts stationed ahead, inspecting each one.
Recalling from the memories of the beast souls sealed in her mind, Qin Ruqing found no record of such a checkpoint.
She asked the beast brother in front, “Why is the inspection so strict this time?”
The beast brother replied, “I heard that the scope of this blessing is wider, and with more beasts, accidents are bound to happen. There might even be humans sneaking in. It’s better to be cautious.”
Qin Ruqing, a human disguised as a beast, calmly responded, “You’re right.”
But her heart was still tense.
Time seemed to slow down during this nervous moment.
Finally, it was Qin Ruqing’s turn.
Two large wolf-dogs came over and sniffed her all over.
Soon, one of them, with sharp beast eyes, stared at Qin Ruqing and said in a deep voice, “You have the smell of human orpiment on you.”
Qin Ruqing replied, “Before coming to the beast realm, I participated in a patrol mission and cleaned up some traps left by humans. This orpiment is what I picked up at that time. You know, humans love using these useless tricks.”
Before the wolf-dog could respond, Qin Ruqing continued, “My companions behind me are from the same patrol team, and they also have the orpiment smell. Please inform the two wolf-dogs.”
The green-eyed wolf behind her was extremely nervous and hastened to agree, “Yes, wolf-dogs, we picked up this smell from the patrol mission. We shouldn’t be held accountable for that.”
The wolf-dogs, cautious and fearing potential issues, reported the situation to their superior.
The superior appeared to be a dog king.
He was familiar with the wolf king and stood next to him, casting a questioning look.
The wolf king casually glanced at Qin Ruqing and said, “These are my beasts, and they did participate in the patrol mission. There’s no problem.”
“And the orpiment smell?”
“Hunting humans will also leave a human scent! Rest assured, I’ve checked with my divine eyes and found no issues.”
The wolf king, an ancient awakened demon with stronger bloodline suppression, had the dog king in charge of the checkpoint defer to him.
The dog king signaled the wolf-dog soldiers to let them pass.
Qin Ruqing confidently walked off the narrow suspension bridge and even bared her teeth at the wolf-dogs who had stopped them earlier, demonstrating her resolve as a beast.
Since she passed, her companions naturally had no problems either.
Half an hour later, all the beasts had crossed the suspension bridge.
Following the earlier incident, Qin Ruqing not only didn’t avoid the wolf king and the dog king but also took the initiative to approach, seemingly eager to ask, “King, shall we go to the Tianxing Mountain immediately to receive the Beast God’s blessing?”
Her demeanor made her appear even more composed.
The dog king dismissed any remaining doubts in his mind.
He couldn’t believe that this beast was actually a human in disguise.
The wolf king, seeing the admiration in the rock tiger’s eyes for the Beast God and the longing for strength, was reminded of his younger self.
This familiarity made him in a good mood to explain, “No need to rush. Tonight, you will stay at the Chasm and cooperate with Yuehua to refine the human blood we hunted, enhancing your strength. We’ll go to Tianxing Mountain after that.”
Yuehua? Human blood?
At these words, the black panther behind Qin Ruqing’s pupils contracted.
The emerald snake flicked its tongue.
The colorful giant insect fidgeted its eight legs nervously.
The little white rabbit’s ears twitched.
…
The golden tiger, however, responded loudly, “Alright! King, just watch! We will not let you down!”
On a dark and windy night, it was the perfect time for important matters, like gathering… to practice.
This place resembled an altar, situated high on a cliff. The moon in the Beast Realm was already large, and from here, it seemed to loom right overhead.
Beasts of all shapes and sizes gathered here, their eyes reflecting eerie lights that, at a glance, looked like ghostly flames floating in the darkness.
The Wolf King stood at the highest point of the altar, already reciting a series of praises to the Beast God.
Qin Ruqing expected that they would absorb the moonlight and start their training, but instead, the Wolf King began dancing.
Qin Ruqing: …
Even more challenging, the beasts joined in the dance.
Their heads and feet moved in unison, seemingly chaotic but oddly rhythmic and wild.
Qin Ruqing searched through the beast soul memories for the meaning of this dance, which was typically part of the ritual.
It was quite difficult for her, with her uncoordinated limbs.
With a wooden expression, she began to dance, trying to match the others.
Out of the corner of her eye, she observed:
The green snake swayed its body, managing to keep up with the rhythm.
The black panther’s movements were slow, as if each step took three tries. It was evident the dance was a huge challenge for him.
The large insect was in a worse state, with its eight legs making it a clumsy mess.
The pangolin’s every move showed clear reluctance.
The small white rabbit, being tiny, was easily hidden behind the other beasts and managed to blend in during the chaos.
Qin Ruqing, seeing the amusing sight of her companions’ struggles, couldn’t help but smirk.
Although the dance seemed meaningless, watching her teammates’ rare and funny attempts made it worthwhile.
To her surprise, after the dance, the environment changed.
The huge moon emitted an unusual light, which Qin Ruqing found a bit eerie.
When the light faded, she noticed that the altar was enveloped in mist.
The moon seemed to be directly producing this mist, which gradually filled the area.
Qin Ruqing, unknowingly inhaling the white mist, felt a thrilling sensation—was this what drinking elixirs felt like?
Did the Beast Realm have such things?
From her memories, she recognized that the white mist was called Moonlight, which was beneficial for the beasts’ cultivation.
Beasts often had violent and bloodthirsty tendencies, enjoying fights partly for resources and status, and partly to release their inner rage.
Moonlight helped them calm down.
It felt like their “beastly nature” was suppressed by an external force, allowing for a brief but clear thinking process.
Qin Ruqing found this sensation perfect for a deep sleep, but the beasts clearly used these rare moments of calm for cultivation.
They took out human blood they had hunted and poured it into their mouths, getting drunk as if from fake alcohol, and then began to cultivate while absorbing the Moonlight.
To humans, this scene was unsettling.
Qin Ruqing noticed that the beasts next to her were increasingly uneasy and started giving her pleading looks.
To drink or not to drink?
Their big eyes conveyed the dilemma.
Qin Ruqing blinked decisively, turning her body to face them clearly, ensuring her actions were visible.
All the human blood she had stored immediately floated and poured into her mouth in one swift motion.
Qin Ruqing’s decisive action made it clear—of course, she drank!
She drank quite a bit.
Part of it was from the Rock Tiger’s own hunting, who was strong and backed by a big clan.
Another part was the bribe from the Green-Eyed Wolf.
Qi Rong and the others were stunned but quickly understood Qin Ruqing’s intention.
They had to drink.
In this situation, not drinking would make them stand out as odd.
